I am sure if the "world media" had a free hand in reporting from the battlefield many more IDF troops, and inocent people would have died.
32. IT'S AMERICA'S FAULT...IT'S ISRAEL'S FAULT...
KEITH ,   NY,USA   (08.30.06)
This world has its head up its ass for so long that it died from lack of oxygen!! What is wrong with this world? It's always Americas fault...they could have sent in troops to stop genocide, It's Israel fault for not sending in food, It's Americas fault for not ousting the dictator sooner. It's Israels fault for this and Americas for that!!!! America tries to do good and when they do the world blames them for going in and doing somthing and Americas people blame the president for everything that goes wrong, and the same for Israels people. SHUT THE HELL UP YOU ARROGANT FOOLS!! if you can do better, then put your money where your mouth is!! I am so fed up with this world railing my country and it's leaders. You got somthing to say when we do go to action and when we don't you piss on us for not moving faster or not doing somrhing at all. From now on do your own dirty work. We will keep our young boys on our own turf and or money can go to our poor and hungry. As for those who live here...SHAME ON YOU!!! What in God holy name are you doing. Every one of you loved this president for the great job that was thrust upon him. But when the blood started pooring out of the veins of our troops you want to tuck tail and run. President Bush is NOT the one bombing your boys, it is the insurgancy who are determined to stop democracy from forming in Iraq! So SHUT UP, SUCK IT UP, AND GROW A FEW BETWEEN THOSE COWARDLY LEGS OF YOURS!!! What our great president needs is his country standing behind him in support, not a bunch of pussies whinning "look what you have done!! Get us out of there!!" Every single person responded the same way with the poor intelligence he received. All of us agreed with what he said,"if your not with us, your with them, and any country supporting terrorist, then you are a terrorist as well. And if you think for one second that Hussain didn't have his hands in the terrorist cookie jar, than your more a fool than I first thought. You will stand accountable for your actions of not standing behind your president, so think before you speak. To those with me and the president, shout out with a roar so that the radicals can hear us: we are on your tail and soon you will be in our sights and then I hope your virgins are butt ugly. God Bless those TRUE American patriots

Laura G ,   Salt Lake City USA   (08.30.06)
How ironic that a meeting of the international press DIDN'T take place in Cairo, Amman, Damascus, Beirut, Riyhad, Baghdad or Teheran. Where is the bureau chief of the Jerusalem Post or Haaretz or Ynet in any of these countries, BUT Al-Jazeera's LARGET office in downtown Jerusalem, Israel
34. Erlanger
LS ,   New York   (08.30.06)
Just wondering what universe this guy lives in....also, is he a self-loathing Jew or a Christian anti-Semite? One more thought: Would someone please explain to me how ANY self-respecting Jew could purchase the New York Slimes or spend even ONE CENT on advertising in its pages? p.s. It is said that the NY Slimes building is the safest place in Manhattan. But after the freedom fighters/activists/militants/ angry underpriveledged gentlemen of the Muslim persuasion get finished with the rest of the island, they'll be coming for you, too, Mr. Erlanger...and all of your cronies. Will you EVER get it? Doubtful...
35. Journalists blame Israel
al ramey ,   los angeles   (08.30.06)
It is true that Israel missed an opportunity to explain its case. Absent from the scne were General Hertzog and Yadlin (1973), who served the country well. Indeed, Ms. Livni was AWOL and Israel pays the penalty! It is ironic that the NYT, certifibaly rotten from years of exhaustion will have a lazy, slothful character like Erlanger in Jerusalem. From my perch I could see how Fox, CNN managed to get on with the IDF and made an effort to be there. Ofcourse, one cannot doubt that CNN is bent on discreditng Israel for the sake of rating, a story Mr. Lapin covered very well. (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3291328,00.html) The hypocracy of the foreign media based in the region is nauseating and the doule standards applied to their work only serve to discredit them. 37. Erlanger is an agent for Saudi Arabia.
Daisy ,   USA   (08.30.06)
He gets paid like hundreds of "reporters" by Saudi Arabia to spread lies about Israel. Why the hell Israel doesn't kick them all out is baffling. They all work for terrorist groups and should be jailed or have their visas revoked.
38. lamenting doesnt help

39. Irresponsible Media
lynne ,   austin, texas   (08.30.06)
The lies and misrepresentation of many of the mainstream media sources is appalling. It is not news; it is propaganda. Spread the word, via email, blogs, to your friends and neighbors. Protest this falsifying of the news. It is dangerous and malicious.
40. Journalists blaming the victim:Israel
Tova ,   US   (08.30.06)
What kind of journalists are these? These are pathetic examples of reporters; self-serving, blaming the victim and spreading hate filled propaganda. They can't corroborate how many are dead in Lebanon but they can give their opinion that "Israelis are not interested" in how many Lebanese are dead. They pick and choose what they want to show and how they want to show it. Do they even care how many died in Israel? They espouse their opinion about "proportionality" as if war can be measured in those terms. would one accuse a crime victim who fought back as action out of proportion. Germany had more deaths than Britain; though most of them were their own victims, but was Britain's response out of proportion. Wake up. Journalists are in the pocket of arab countries and are manipulating media and sadly; political agenda.
41. we were interested

in here we were very interested in the number of innocent israeli civilians who were falling... this was the time to cheer muhahahaha!
42. What about the fraud of the red cross ambulance.?

43. Erlanger
Michael F. ,   USA & Israel   (08.30.06)
Erlanger is just another self hating Jew who thinks he is superior and above most other people, and therefore has a right to chide them and treat them in whatever way he wants. His political views closely resemble those of the old socialistic European left that has never forgotten Israel for going the capitalist way. His prejudices are apparent in his articles. His ability to select which stories interest him is remarkable -- after all more important than reporting the news, is selecting which news to report. The question of proportionality, Mr. Erlanger, is not measured in relation to what motivated the war, but in view of the threat posed. this is the UN definition. The consolation prize for Israelis is that Mr. Erlanger also villifies the US in his articles. Again... there are some with a true vocation for self-hatred... I'd bet you anything Erlanger is the type of person who spends his nights with a glass of wine, spends his vacations in a nice, cozy, European chic enclave, and would avoid if at all possible transiting and spending time in Israel or the US. And G-d forbid anything more than by-chance conversations with non-journalists, non-leftists Israelis or Americans. ----------------- The problem with most of these journalists is that they come to Israel with no understanding of the country, the society, and ME. They huddle in Jerusalem while being paid an obscene amount of money for being expat in a "danger zone", have luxurious homes rented for them, and praise themselves and pat each other on the back for their moral retitude and left-liberal views. In order to maintain neutrality they hire mostly Arabs as assistants, and spend the bulk of their time digging stories in the territories. Israeli offers to show their side of things are obviously not interesting to them, since showing this would constitute propaganda, and lack of "neutrality". Right! So neutral means being pro-arab, no matter what. Now I get it.... It is indeed comfortable to cover the area from the only democratic country in the region, sitting on a comfortable couch, in a nice paid-for home, with guaranteed freedom of expression and afterwards say that "the only threats are Israeli missiles". I would love to see Mr. Erlanger & company spending a couple of years covering Hizballah and Syria from within Lebanon... It is sad, but the victimization of the attackers seem never to cease. As Jews have been a pariah among peoples of the Earth, now Israel is a pariah among the nations of this planet.

46. To everyone in this forum:

You are all really good at bitching and complaining, but no one dares answer the real question: IF YOU THINK JOURNALISTS ARE SO BIASED AGAINST ISRAEL - WHY IS THAT SO???
47. Inaccurate Truths
Michael Freudigmann ,   Brisbane, Australia   (08.30.06)
The media at large has been guilty; the pressures to get stories out means that journos will do almost anything to be the first to press. As a result, they publish unverified stories and don't or can't do the leg work required to check the story themselves. The pick of the bunch is that Hezbollah claimed to have blow-up an Australian warship during this current conflict, that was in-fact sunk in 1998 by Australia when it was decommissioned. (http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/hezbollah_sinks_australian_warship/) Of course, The IDF needs to start NOT appologising when a "tragedy" happens, and only appologise AFTER it has been shown that it was in fact caused by act or omission on the part of the IDF.
48. I subscribe to the NY Times- Let's start an organized effort
Zionist   (08.30.06)
We should start an organized effort for fairer coverage and to fire Erlanger. I bet we could get a lot of people to cancel their subsriptions if he is not fired. I could get at least 5 off the bat (including mine).

Who cares about the pontifications of this immoral fool? No wonder the world is so messed up when you have evil people like him shaping the news to their distorted and wicked agenda.
55. Self righteous chutzpah by failed reporters
careful reader   (08.30.06)
Own your mistakes, ladies and gentlemen and stop blaming others. You often misrepresented this war and allowed yourselves to be duped and pushed by Hizbullah and Lebanon to report lies. From the small things like posed and distorted photos by long-time employees of the largest organizations, to open staging of situations, to outright shoddy reporting like the supposed ambulance that was damaged ( it wasn't, but none of you bothered to look at the story carefully), to the truly significant LIE of saying over and over that 800 or 1100 civilians were killed. How is it that so many civilians were listed without counting any of them as Hizbullah fighters? According to most Western media, as they were covering this war, all the injured, all of the dead and all of the fleeing were not Hizbullah. Somehow, magically, according to virtually all of you, Hizbullah became the best fighting force ever, not suffering more than a couple dozen casualties in a war against the IDF. A monkey throwing darts would have killed more Hizbullah than the IDF according to your naive or misleading reports. Along the same lines, every bridge, building, oil refinery, and road was a civilian target. Does that seem right to you? Clearly that is untrue and yet that is the impression one received from your reports. We now know that in the first hour of this war, Israel destroyed all of the long range capabilities of Hizbullah. That seems like a pretty significant loss and yet not one of you reported that. According to your reports, Hizbullah remained untouched and unharmed in this war. The IDF and IAF were missing everything and just hitting civilian targets over and over according to your reports. The problem you've created is that when people read your news, they simply don't know whether to trust what you've written. I read the NY Times daily. Steve Erlanger now states publicly that no NY Times reporters were hampered by Hizbullah in their coverage. Interesting. According to various reports in The New Republic, CNN, etc., reporters stated openly that they were always under the careful watch and direction of men who seemed to be Hizbullah. Either the NY Times gets a free pass from Hizbullah, or Mr. Erlanger wants us to believe that his paper is immune from having coverage distorted. I'll be sure to read his articles a lot more carefully from now on. Reuters, AP or BBC allowed distorted views to be published in their names, but continue to self-righteously claim their coverage was fine. Really? I'll believe it when I see authentic articles about what really happened with and to Hizbullah in this war. Why is it I need Nasrallah to tell me on TV that he's sorry he precipitated this crisis and had he known what was to happen, he wouldn't have done it in the first place? Isn't that a striking admission of failure on his part? You folks seemed to have missed that story. For weeks! Don't worry though, at least you can boast that your poor reporting affected the outcome of this war, because it did.

57. No NYT coverage of Kassams, murdered Jews by intifada
Walt O'Brien ,   Columbia, MD USA   (08.30.06)
1,100 Jews murdered in Israel by homicide bombers, and it is a shoulder shrug to the NYT. NYT did not even cover the murder of Shelhevet Pass, nor her father's incarceration on non-existent grounds which got plenty of EU press coverage. It's always the same: the NYT's message is that it is okay to murder Jews or Christians with middle class aspirations so long as they are law-abiding contributing citizens with no political affiliation. It was that way in Rhodesia, South Africa, democratic Syria and Lebanon, and pre-Islamofascist Iran, too. Come to think of it, this was so during Viet Nam also. No one wrote one line about accountants, lawyers, schoolteachers, priests, nuns and business people murdered and their bodies thrown into trenches by the North Vietnamese. The first Americans heard of it was in a corny movie "Full Metal Jacket" ten years after the war was over. Die, evil Westerner infidels! is the message. And who buys the papers? Am I missing something here, please?
58. press
bev ,   toronto   (08.30.06)
There is little comment here, on Ha'aretz. They are inciting hate. Almost every talkback was slanted to encourage people who hate Jews to post the most reprehensible things of all. They are still doing it. Yesterday, e.g. "Israeli MP says no additional school funds for arab children in the north" One particularly nasty Pal from Toronto (who they love to post) wrote how excited she was by this article and had already forwarded the article to all of the newspapers through the internet. They encourage these perverted people to say that Hitler didn't complete the job, and in one instance referring to the Holocaust allowed a poster to say that when Nasralla finishes with the Jews he will have nice "lampshades". These people are never censored and repeat their screaming hate over and over. Many moderate voices are not printed. I have written several e-mails reminding them that they might want one blog that actually is pro-Israel. BBC is plainly anti-semetic, but I managed (and I am sure many others wrote as well) to get a second article written with corrections. Poor Palestenian whose wife and baby were jailed for no reason. P.S. She was caught with a bomb laden car in Jerusalem. I believe that Al-Jazeera, although clearly biased and a muslim paper, is less offencive than the Guardian and BBC. The answer is write write - have your facts and point out the lies. Don't just rant "unfair." Do a little research and hammer it to them over and over. This includes Ha'aretz, as they are the worst offender. In Canada they would no doubt be censured for inciting hate.
59. erlanger
Judy ,   NY   (08.30.06)
Given the depth and breadth of Israeli reporting on the war, Erlanger's comments are quite confusing and I wonder if he didn't "quite grasp" how the war was perceived inside of Israel. I also wonder if anyone else noticed that the NYT did not cover Nasrallah's comments to Lebanese television this week - only one reference to this interview in one paragraph well within the body of another story. My opinion: too many NYT reporters were educated at Harvard and have the Ivy league view of the world: all judgement , no direct contact.

Wah Wah Wah..Call the Wambulence for all these self-pitying "writers.".If they were so censured by Hezbollah/Hamas then why didnt they have the integrity to report it? Why slam Israel for an unconfirmed attack...And only correct it when confronted with the truth?!!!
