1. This is completely crazy! Is the model of Israel ,Iran?
ED ,   Paris   (09.21.06)
Have you ever seen this in a normal western country. MayBe the high court of justice will ask IKEA to put a mosque. This is ridiculous.

6. I dont understand everyones problem
J K ,   NYC, USA   (09.21.06)
So they made Ikea kosher and they are putting in a shul. Whats bad? Dont want to daven? Don't go there. Dont want to eat kosher? Dont eat there. Sheesh. There are a lot of Haredim in Israel and Ikea is doing what they can to attract them as consumers. If you dont love Haredim, fine. You should keep it to yourself, considering the time of year.....if you even care.
7. whatever they do, Jews won't be happy

(09.21.06)
stay in paris. "have you ever seen this in a normal western country." -- to answer your question, ISRAEL IS NOT A "NORMAL WESTERN COUNTRY". except the fact that it is a democratic country it stands alone as THE ONLY JEWISH COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND IF THERE ARE SOME VOICES OF REASON OUT THERE, FINALLY ADDING TO ISRAEL'S JEWISH CHARACTER, THEN THAT IS A GOOD THING!
10. #1
Israel   (09.21.06)
Israel is a Jewish State. Synagogue opens at IKEA, If you like it or not, it will stay =]
11. It's a simple accommodation - bigots should chill out
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (09.22.06)
I agree with JK. This shouldn't be a big deal. This is a Jewish owned business in a Jewish majority state trying to be more accommodating of their customers. Even as a Masorti ("traditional") Jew I appreciate having a place where I can get a kosher nosh. This is not "Iran"; there's no one imposing a standard on anyone else.
12. NEWS: US Airports and hospital have chapels
mike   (09.22.06)
Its just business. Don't shop at IKEA if you don't like it.
13. PR stunt ?
Martin   (09.22.06)
rediculous idea or a PR stunt: Ikea is way out of town. No religious Jew can get ther on foot.
14. Now I've heard everything with these insane feedbacks....
Chiloni   (09.22.06)
Jews criticizing a synagogue in a Jewish country. Listen to #8 and #6 and let religious Jews pray while they shop.
15. Great move from Ikea
TA ,   p.t. israel   (09.22.06)
It's not a PR stunt, Israel is not turning into Iran. I sometimes shop at Zol-Po, a very large supermarket where many religious, as well as non-religious shop. At Zol-Po, they announce the afternoon and evening prayers over the loudspeakers and all the men willing to participate rush to the area selected for the prayer, and they daven together. There is no shul at Zol-Po, the men stand together in a section of the store. The reason for this is due to many families needing to shop after working hours and if they weren't able to pray there, a lot of the families would leave very quickly for the men to be able to make it to the prayers on time. Since they can pray in that supermarket, there is no rush. They pray and then return to their shopping. As a religious woman, I appreciate that my husband isn't under pressure when we go shopping there as he's not worried about missing the prayer. A shul in Ikea? Maybe the people at Ikea thought it best to give prayers some privacy. Kudos to Ikea! I wonder how many other stores are katering to the religious among us (much more numerous than you might think). For those of you who oppose the shul in Ikea, you should do some soul searching as to why that is so. Do you hate the religious that much? Why don't you complain about Ikea's catering to the kids with their ball pool?
16. to no. 13 - Martin

"no religious jew can get there on foot" ????? Why would religious jews walk? Or do you assume that religious jews don't drive? Who are you and where do you live? A nazi from Germany?

joe   (09.22.06)
To visit a prayer-room is A MUST before purchasing any items at IKEA!!! Especially when buying any furniture with self-assembling instructions. My daughter-in-law wants a sleeping room with furniture from IKEA - but before I start work I will go on a 80-kilometer pilgrimage - to calm down, pray and ask God for a calm hand and to give me wisdom to understand IKEAS assembling instructions. May God bless any buyer!
25. ED is wrong
MARK ROBERTSON ,   LISBON, PORTUGAL   (09.22.06)
If Israel ever becomes "a normal western country" it will both cease to exist and cease to have a reason to exist.
