Otherwise, why would a rank amateur with no qualifications whatsoever be given the position of Advisor of Homeland Security? You probably led just as much a double life as McGreevey did and you resorted to blackmail when the FBI (wisely) refused to give you the security clearance necessary to continue in that position. When things didn't go your way, you resorted to extortion and repeated denials of being gay/bi. You're nothing but an opportunist and about as transparent as glass. IMHO, if the US wasn't such an uptight, repressed society and accepted gay people (instead of demonizing them) for what they are, McGreevey probably would not have had to live a double life, and gotten involved in a sham of a marriage and could have come out years ago. FWIW, he's not the only closeted gay in US politics. There are plenty of others.

This is the most pathetic attempt to stay in the closet I've ever read. Does anyone really believe that he just stayed working for him, working for this "crazy man" with the "crazy look" who made passes at him and masturbated in front of him? Golan didn't seem to have any problem depositing his paycheck every week. McGreevy was corrupt politician who seemed to deserve a corrupt hustler boyfriend like Golan Cipel. I think the ex Gov is using the classic manipulator "pity ploy" to get potential voters' sympathy and compassion, so that he can re-enter politics. He lied to his constituents, and his wife and family. He led a double life. Why would he suddenly start being an honest person now? His big show of "coming clean" doesn't impress me. He's a dishonest man who is trying to grab the "victim role" for himself, and will vilify whomever he must to win this PR battle.

Colan Cipel is either a fool or so deep in the closet he can't think clearly. Many people here in New Jersey knew that he and McGreevey were in a relationship. One needs to ask him why was he appointed to his government position when he was clearly not qualified for the job. The sooner Cipel can admit his consensual relationship with McGreevey to sooner he can get on with his life.

Mr. Cipel's account of his carrer with the Governor is highly disturbing on any number of levels. The Gov. is obviously an incredibly sel-centered and selfish man with no morals and fewer ethics. That said, there is something unsettling about Mr. Cipel's account as well. His timing (right before the election) seemed calculated to insure that the Gov.'s affair or delusion of one would dominate the news at a time when the country was supposed to be getting to the bottom of who was behind anthrax attacks in the USA. Every single one of the anthrax letters were mailed from New Jersey. I don't hear any concern from either of them about their failure to locate or apprehend the psychopath that sent weaponized anthrax to American policiticans and major media studios. He should have reported the Gov. and helped the homeland security department find the terrorists or at least acknowledge that is what he was here in the USA for.

Thanks for the excellent interview. Cipel's story rings much truer than McGreevey's for sure. As the former spouse (for 22 years) of a gay man, I found his need for two marriages to cover his homosexuality in order to advance his political career as dispicable as his corrupt NJ government, his being against gay marriage while in office, his details of public restroom and glory holes bookstore sex (was he thinking about his daughters' reading this stuff as they grow-up?), his self-pity wanting more understanding from the wife who stood by him at his press conference (then collapsed), his supposed bedding with Cipel while his wife was in the hospial recovering from a difficult childbirth), and so forth, doesn't give me any reason to think that lying doesn't come naturally. His grandiosity (wanting the White House), his exhibitionist book and t.v. appearances($500,000 advance), his self-pitying pleas that he's being "honest" to help other gays are all classic signs of a Narcisstic Personality Disorder (look on Wikipedia for the list). McGreevey is a poster boy for what the gay community does NOT want--a lying, cheating, exhibitionist, without empathy--and many are posting that "we are not all like McGreevey." McGreevey named Golan Cipel, an Israeli national with no experience, as NJ's homeland security director. It's not mentioned in this article at all and is probably of some importance to the overall story, wouldn't you think? Was it an attempt to woo Cipel? If so, why would he accept such a position? Too many unanswered questions. Besides, McGreevey used the whole gay thing as an easy out to avoid the real scandal coming down on him about the dirty dealings of his administration.
