Despite a few halting steps forward, especially in pop culture, we live in a country that remains very hostile to gay rights, as exemplified by the continued demonization of gay people in the rhetoric of the religious and political right. As countries around the civilized world move toward legitimizing gay relationsiphs, our governing party calls for a constitutional amendment to prevent gay marriage; as many of our allies allow gay people to serve openly in teh military, ours steps up the discharges, even at a time when teh military is most in need of support. If you think McGreevey could have been elected governor as an openly gay man, then you're either deluded or stupid. End of story.

Several respondents here seem to think that Golan's acceptance of the "Homeland Security" position makes everything that happened afterwards - his fault or at least "expected and okay". ARE YOU NUTS!! I don't know what Golan's qualifications are. But if someone offered me a lucrative position that I believed myself capable of handling - I would take it. Wouldn't you? Most of you would of course. And if my employer thought sex came with the job - I would also be afraid, try to avoid him and hope it went away. Does this make attempted rape okay?!!!!! So then, what does the other aide to the Gov say, the one who was at the house speaking with Mrs. G when the old boy whipped it out? Does he agree with this version, or some other? What about the Mrs? Wasn't she in a position to know if her husband was in the next room lying in bed with his Johnson out?To read Golan's version sounds very believable, but I wasn't there.

McGreevey portrayed himself as a family man, while all the time leading a secret double life of debauchery. I was married to a man such as this (hi #45) and I can tell you from personal experience that the lying doesn't suddenly stop once their preference is out in the open. And, even when Cipel was formally refused intelligence clearance, he continued in a well-paying alternative job. Why? Does anyone believe that McGreevey was so obsessed with Cipel that he would do all these things just for the slight chance that he could get into Cipel's pants? C'mon. Anyway, McGreevey wasn't known for being exclusive with any one person. Blackmail charges were not pressed against Cipel, but neither were Cipel's charges of sexual harrassment pressed against McGreevey. Ultimately, I part ways with feminists: someone who is really being harrassed has the responsbility to make it known at the time or (less good) to leave the employment of the harrasser. As for McGreevey, he should be behind bars for hiring Cipel in the first place (and for other things, too).

As a government employee in a "merit system" my career has been halted because of McGreevey and his devious endeavors. Golan was just one of many that he doled out jobs to and created a segregation umongst NJ employees, residents and vistors. I believe McGreevey was determined to "come out" and destroy Golan before Golan had the opportunity to destroy his Governship! Nonetheless, he is laughing all the way to the bank and the State of NJ taxpayers will take care of him and the woman and child he devilishly deceived. The same type of sexual harassment happened with me and my employer years ago. I didn't tell anyone because I loved my job and didn't want to lose it. I thought I could manage the guy and put an end to that type of behavior. And I did for awhile. But eventually he got physical with me again, and at that point I quit. Mostly because I feared for my physical safety. If I had been a guy I would have popped him one in the nose. I never told anyone. I should have. So I believe Cipel. He felt the same way I did/

I have a beautiful daughter. She was recently interviewed and offered a good job working for a (married) lawyer in town. When she was leaving the office after the interview one of his female employees took her aside and told her "He hires girls he wants to have sex with. If you take this job you should know that, and if you don't mind the pressure go ahead". This goes on all the time and it does not mean the person hired is necessarily guilty of any misconduct. By the way, she turned down the job.

They did....only after one side of the story.....Like so many "leaders" of the Democratic party, McGreevey places blame on someone else to justify his disturbed self reality of denial in order to ease the heat for the Party, Period.

Only in America can a corrupt Governor have his sins washed away by a confession of being under a sexual compulsion. The same was true of Bill Clinton who allegedly raped a woman when he was a public official in Arkansas and displayed a pattern of sexual harassment that you would think would disqualify him from public life. But.. and this is the cruxt of the matter.. if you are a liberal Democrat you get a pass on this type of criminal behavior, because the media here for the most part only cares about your political orientation, not your sexual orientation. In fact, being gay is a plus in McGreevey's case because it generates misplaced sympathy by positioning the governor as a victim rather than the sociopathic predator that Cipel alleges (and I believe to be true).
