61. Keeping Arabs veiled and ignorant...
Ron ,   LA   (10.22.06)
is a good thing. Imagine 300 millions of arabs become educated and rich. With their jihad ideology they will dominate the world even more. No, let them be veiled and in dark.

The haters have already won if they can draw you to the same namecalling level they are at. Use ambiguous terms. Keep the other side of the debate unbalanced.
64. Burqas are for jerkas
Roy ,   Orlando, Florida, US   (10.24.06)
If you want to wear a burqa, do so. It doesn't mean you should be able to apply to work for jobs that require faces to be seen (teachers and civil servants) or that you should be able to drive or get a license.
65. women being forced to wear burqa and what a burqa actually i
a'ishah ahmed ,   surrey, uk   (04.23.08)
i would like to say as a willing muslim revert, that i found this article disrespectful and totally innaccurate. firstly i would like to say that women in Islam do not get forced to cover there faces and wear a vale, that is purely down to the person and the family values. secondly i will like to say that, the garment (burqa) is just a dress like coverinq to be worn over normal dress when entering the outside or when visiting the masjid(mosque) etc and the actual face covering is a seperate garment altogether named the niqaab, which as i have mentioned is not obligitory.i agree that many other cultures wear head coverings such as the Hijab, and is used jus as much for the benefit of the woman as is the burqa. The article insinuated that women were forced to cover there body and face by there husbands as well as ther religion but it is asked, in Islam, that u must cover your hair , shoulders neck and chest by wrapping garment(hijab) nicely over it and u must dress modestly by wearin non revealing or tight clothing and wearing loosely fitted clothes, and/or lossely fitted outer garment (burqa) to ensure the arms, wrist and ankles are concealed, as these are often appealing areas to the oposite sex. therefor i would like to close by saying that i am very comfortable in wearing a range of styles of burqa and this does not inlude niqaab, and have never felt under pressure to wear any such items it is a matter of my choice.

It took a hundred years for men in Europe to get used with women wearing trousers....
67. Veiled Muslim women are victims of male-imposed bondage
muhammed abdul kayum ,   London   (11.12.09)
reply to Hanania You often find there is a virus amongst any system which exists, like this one. One might question why women are not attracted to these debates? one may also argue that a Muslim women who wears the burqa, completely to the veil to those uneducated ones, is soley because Allah has commanded them to. Dont make assumptions about Islam, the Quraan or Muslim women you clearly display a lack of understanding in all three above. Rather you have just rambled on about what common nouse you think you posesss. Religion is not based on sociology or observational theories, it is divine- words of God (Allah). Your absolutely right in saying that; "nowhere Qu’ran is there a directive from the Almighty that women must cover themselves up like a sack of potatoes" it really doesnt. However The Holy Quraan does say in 2 places: Firstly in Surah an-Nur ayah 31 says: And say to the faithful women to lower their gazes, and to guard their private parts, and not to display their beauty except what is apparent of it, and to extend their headcoverings (khimars) to cover their bosoms (jaybs), and not to display their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband's fathers, or their sons, or their husband's sons, or their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their womenfolk, or what their right hands rule (slaves), or the followers from the men who do not feel sexual desire, or the small children to whom the nakedness of women is not apparent, and not to strike their feet (on the ground) so as to make known what they hide of their adornments. And turn in repentance to Allah together, O you the faithful, in order that you are successful secondly: in Surah al-Ahzab ayah 59 says: O Prophet! Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the faithful to draw their outergarments (jilbabs) close around themselves; that is better that they will be recognized and not annoyed. And God is ever Forgiving, Gentle. It is imperative for trouble makers to know that no matter how smart they are there is always smarter. Please to not form opinions from the top of your biased brain and generalise the worlds fastest growing religion. You are misfeeding information to innocent people who may want to come to Islaam like your mother or your sister and thus hindering them by telling lies. Finally is westerners have completely sold their dignity and want to walk around naked? you should ask yourself if you want to see you own mother and daughters like that? I doubt it very much. Surely that would bother you. Then what does that make you? Muslim women actually feel liberated from what they experienced as the intrusive, commodifying, basely sexualising Western gaze. Many women say when I wear Western clothes, men stare at me, objectify me, or I am always measuring myself against the standards of models in magazines, which are hard to live up to – and even harder as you get older, not to mention how tiring it can be to be on display all the time. When I wear my headscarf people relate to me as an individual, not an object; I feel respected. They are not opressed. Stop trying to brainwash people and get out of Palestine and go back to Babylon.
