Before we all go off our rocker here, lets wait to find out what actually happened. I doubt Israeli fighter pilots mistook it for a Hizbullah frigate, but we dont have the whole story yet. Maybe the ships radar 'painted' the planes and an alarm went off and the pilot(s) got jumpy. Time will bring out the whole story....for now we have only the German version.

Can't help but wonder if this is not a "ploy" to take the German's off the front page for soldiers who posed with a skull and other body parts in Afghanistan. Nothing is ever as it "seems" anymore. All those flights over Lebanon wont return the 2 captured Soliders. Israel has to make prisoner swaps. Its the only way. Israel is lying the fact that those flights will help them controlling the Lebanese Syrian borders. Anti-missile flares I can believe, but a quick check of the publicly available literature suggests that none of Israel's F-16 models are equipped with guns, thus calling into question the report that "shots" were fired. Furthermore, if the aircraft had been equipped with guns, they would most likely be 20mm automatic cannons. I don't think those can shoot single shots. Had bombs been dropped or missiles fired, odds are the surviving German sailors would be on their way to an unexpected vacation in Haifa, and the vessel in question would be providing habitat for sea life. Someone needs to get their story straight.

I doubt the Germans leaders would have deliberately painted the F16 with radar, but the French would have. I think in this case though it may have been a jumpy seaman or ship comander turning on the missle radar system and painting the jet. The french would have done so deliberately. But if this was a deliberate challange by the EU then they the UN will be playing with fire especially I have not seen one hand takened up against Hezbollah

Israel has a well equipped and highly trained army. Therefore I doubt that both pilots mistook the German vessels as Hezbollah or unknown boats. Is it possible that some people in the Israeli army want to impress the UN troops in order to show who runs the show? I think the Israelis should pay respect to the international troops if they insist on rules for the other parties in the conflict. Sometimes I am surprised by the lack of discipline in the IDF as the killing of Unifil soldiers demonstrated.

Lets not be like usual and kneejerk a response to this until all the facts are in.

I agree with you, war will not win this conflict, so when are those stupid arab countries going to stop provoking Israel, all the wars have been declared by the arabs, I think that Islam worldwide needs to start talking peace with the whole world. If not stay in your nations of Islam, one would figure that an immigrant such as yourself would at least take the opportunity to get an education and learn to spell. There is no occupation, learn to recognize Israel is the path to peace.
