Perhaps there was a time when an event like the assassination of Rabin could lead to some introspection and an attempt to improve society, but the short term gain of politicizing it and promoting Rabin to cult status was too powerful. The obsession with Amir is the mirror image of the deification of Rabin. Both need to be put into the dust bin and the sooner the better.

You call this country "pristine and pure"? If it was indeed such a country, then the hate and mistrust between the different factions would never have risen to the point where a man was shot because of it. I had no time what so ever for Rabin's hateful and foolish politics, nor the nastiness and stupidy of the left who tried to force through their view without consent. Thus feeding a reactionary right. However ,there is no way to condone Rabin's murder. This act was a sin against the Jewish religion, the Jewish people and our G-d. The least Amir can do is to apologise, he cannot pretend to be a man of G-D without repentance. He has in 11 years not received proper councelling. He is like that other goat Vanunu, still thinks he is right. A pity ,because repentance would do every one a lot of good. Finally the media, they have not exactly behaved well in this matter either.

Celebritizing Amir is Israel’s way of saying "Hey, if Olmert met Rabin's fate we, we can move on, rebuild and regain some security and deterrent". .... As opposed to waiting and wading through every trick and legal maneuver Olmert is going to pull out of his hat to stay in office. No matter what, he will drag it out and won’t go quietly because his thirst for power and “deals” is why he’s in office. His interests are not Israel’s interests.

I am shocked by these talkbacks from American Jews praising Yigal Amir. Have they gone mad. I'm a Likudnik and believe me I hated everything about the Oslo accords and all that has followed. I also despise the Labour party and I ws no fan of Yitzhak Rabin's policies. But I express this with my vote. That's what politics is all about.

Most people do not believe this government storry (bobe mises, as my grandmother was saying). Nothing was investigated. A few people that rule us (Peres, Olmert, Peretz, etc) run the country like it is their family business. Who killed Rabin? We will learn later.

If that if Rabin was a "monster," then every Palestinian certainly has the right to rid themselves of the likes of you and all those in the Israeli government. Yigal Amir was not living under an oppression as Palestinians do. But when Palestinains sacrifice their lives for the brutal oppression they must suffer and endure each and every day, they are called terrorists.
