Not Bill Clinton ,   Los angeles-USA   (11.06.06)
You must be a European or a Liberal here in the states. I guess it is ok for saddam to gas the kurds, and torture thousands of people. Only the two faced Europenas turn theit backs on torture.
62. JR....
Ramzi Sfeir ,   Bethlehem , Palestin   (11.06.06)
my answer will be very clear: I condemn EVERY human being who is ready to kill his fellow human! Saddam is a terrorist, What israel is doing in the territories is terrorism, what bombers do inside the green line is Terrorism! Clear enough ? i always said so.... Violence is terrorism...you can call it " Self defense" or " rebellion" , i call it Terrorism!
63. Ramzi.....
JR ,   Provo USA   (11.06.06)
Good for you. I respect your convictions. Peace, bro.
64. To 55 and 63
Shai ,   Israel   (11.06.06)
To 55 - typical: form over substance, the plague consuming Palestinians. To 63 - no, Israel's behavior is not terrorism. Ramzi is not a peace lover because he equates what terrorists do and what Israel does as a result. No, rather that is being amoral, and not having the moral guts to see that PURPOSEFULLY attacking non-combatants and civilians is WAY different morally than doing harming non-combatants incidentally. The whole matter ends up splitting hairs, and requires more expertise in military operations than most people have. Does one for example bomb a clearly military site from on high, knowing that this affords protection for your jet but may result in greater collateral damage, or does one do so from close up, knowing that this may limit collateral damage but almost ensure you will be shot down? At some point, you either accept the moral formula that entitles somebody to defend themselves and value their own life over those who have attacked them, or you don't. If you can't do that, you end up like Ramzi, equating the life of a man like Saddam Hussein to those whose lives he mercilessly squandered. In a word, "amoral". This was the point I made in all my responses to Ramzi, and his predisposition to feel victimized blinds him to that. Ramzi, if you want respect, earn it.
65. Shai!
Ramzi Sfeir ,   Bethlehem, Palestine   (11.06.06)
Did anyone ask you YOURSELF to earn respect? You were born with it! Me, as a Palestinian, i am asked to earn it! No sir! I consider that like every other human being i was born with RESPECT deep inside my vains! And in no way i will allow anyone like you to give me morality lessons! I will never bow to your likes! Never again blame me for what palestinian criminals and marginals do, i don't remember blaming you for what israeli criminals do!
66. To 65
Shai ,   Israel   (11.06.06)
The kind of respect that you want, Ramzi, is earned. Here's where I blame you, Ramzi, and why I do not give you the respect you think you deserve. For me, you typify the "good Palestinian". The one who stands in front of me and says he wants peace, but he blames me for all his problems and can't take responsibility for himself, and the deeds of his countrymen, and has the damndest time figurign out what's good and what's evil. Solemnly, you call to the UN to stop "Israel's massacres" while you speak of "it not being in our interest" to harm Israelis. "Interest"? How about it being outright wrong? Yes, I know you aren't out there blowing up busses. But, I don't give you points for that. You seem to think you deserve some special credit for being a human being. Well, humans know the difference from right and wrong, they don't just talk about "interests". They don't ask to be rescued from Israeli counteractions to Palestinian terror by running to the UN, as though "the problem started when he hit me back". I don't respect that. To be a person who deserves respect, you have to be somebody who contributes to the solution, not the problem. 1) You change the definition of terrorism such that acts that are not terrorism, chiefly those by Israel in self-defense operations aimed at militants and not non-combatants or civilians, are "terrorism", whereas your terrorists are generally "freedom fighters". 2) You continue to advocate for a perspective that insists that Israel is an aggressor and is responsible for everything that befalls Palestinians, without accepting responsibility, or advocating for taking responsibility, for all the deeds Palestinians have done to bring themselves into the situation they are in. 3) You treat the founding of Israel as though it were some sort of "original sin", and it's not. There is no law of nature that says that Palestinians belong here and Jews do not. 4) You are amoral. You can't tell the difference between a moral act, and one that's not. It's always based on the ends, without concern to the means. You draw a moral equivalency between things like the death sentence for Saddam Hussein and the death of innocents he killed. You draw equivalency between what the US is doing in Afghanistan and Iraq, and what Saddam and the insurgency is doing. In referring to Lebanon, you ignore Lebanon's passive aggressive stance that allowed Hizbollah to terrorize Israel's northern border, and kidnap soldiers. There is no equivalency. You draw a moral equivalent between Palestinian terrorism and Israel's response to it. You draw a moral equivalency between Israeli democracy, which desires peace, and Palestinian democracy, which eschews it and all the agreements arrived at between the two parties since Madrid.
67. To 65, continued
Shai ,   Israel   (11.06.06)
5) Yet you draw no equivalency between compensation for Jews who were exiled from their homes in "Arab countries", many of whom were their homes before even Arabs arrived (Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Iraq come to mind). 6) You continue to advocate for "Right of Return" to within the Israeli border, knowing full well that this is not possible (at least that's what I remember from your posts). At the same time, you advocate for a Judenrein Palestinian Authority (if memory serves correctly - I'm not as sure about this as the previous ones). 7) You act as though our security fence is a "wall", that it was primarily intended to carve off land from the Palestinian state rather than to protect Israelis, and you take no responsibility for the acts that led up to its necessity. 8) You believe that people who are not Palestinian who live in the West Bank to be deserving of teh death sentence, yet you swoon for Hussein. 9) You deny that the offer that Barak made to Arafat was reasonable, and you never seem to feel that the better response to an inadequate offer was a counter-offer rather than another intidada. The list goes on and on. I'm just disgusted with the way Palestinians continue to portray themselves as victims, the way they passively await solutions to come up and never suggest anything realistic, and I'm tired of living next to an anti-people, who define themselves more by who they aren't than who they are, and who want to destroy my state more than they wish to create one of their own. I'm sick and tired of it Ramzi, and you're part of it. I see what you write. It's always the same "Israel did this, Israel did that". Take responsibility, Ramzi.
68. punishment
Tristen ,   Mankind   (11.07.06)
it is no sin to punish the guilty, and the destruction of all evil shall be the aim of all good men. saddam and will burn eternally in the company of all evil-doers, and humanity will sing her graces as his rope becomes taught and the gallows swallow his black soul. good riddence to a torturing terrorist and a step forward for those who seek peace on earth.
69. Unification of Arabs
Tristen ,   Mankind   (11.07.06)
so sad is the probability that Arabs will never unite in peace to do good and move forward together. why can't the masses in muslim societies agree on anything but blood and death? poor and silly george w. bush just doesn't understand that democracy is only viable for progressive and evolved peoples, and it will fail in iraq. sadly for the good people in the muslim world, many of their brothers and sisters just will not accept any major changes... may god be with us all, whoever your god is, and let us all work for peace on earth.
70. WOW! Tristen...
Ramzi Sfeir ,   Bethlehem,Palestine   (11.07.06)
Your remark, and i quote " democracy is only viable for progressive and evolved peoples " is one of the most racist and disgusting things one can say! This is called Ethnocentrism and Eugenism! Why don't you exterminate us while you're at it ? Do some soul searching, one day you might have to face a new " Nuremberg process" .... along with all your "evolved" friends...and i'm personally working daily in order to reach such a process one day! Maybe one day AntiArabism will be a new concept that will have a huge weight on your so called Morals! I am crossing my fingers!
71. Shai...you never read my posts
Ramzi Sfeir ,   Bethlehem, Palestine   (11.07.06)
Allow me to say that you NEVER read my posts! Especially when you say "you advocate for a Judenrein Palestinian Authority " ... I always said that i had absolutely no problem with jews staying in the Palestinian State after recognizing it as such and accepting to be part of it as citizens or as residents and live under it's laws!!!!
72. hahaha
Tristen   (11.08.06)
i don't want to upset anyone, we're all humans here and those of us who want peace should stop talking and start slaying the opposition. i don't care if you're from belgium or bethlehem, we share this planet and it is my life's work to eliminate people who have a problem with that. is it a coincidence that the youngest nations are also the most powerful and sought after lands in the world? there are reasons fir this; it isn't because they are smarter or better, just that they have progressed into technology and value the future, instead of running in circles for thousands of years arguing the past... i'm sure, ramzi, you understand this. democracy won't work everywhere. not yet. you should stop assuming that everyone is a racist or ethnocentrist and start educating your compatriots. obviously you have a hot head for it doesn't seem that you read my previous comment with an open mind. why are you so filled with hatred?
73. To 56 RE: The verdict was written before the prosecution
Media Critic ,   USA   (11.09.06)
OK Mr smart pants, when the government the prosecution and the jury announces the conclusions about the acused that they want the court to reach, is wrong and USA should not stand for that or support, It is in US best interest not to mention the ethical principals to make sure that he is fairly judged to US standards. True democray starts with the notions that the accused is innocent until proven guilty, If US can teach Iraq that, then they have succeeded in democratizing Iraq. When the court starts with the wrong conclusion, then they're likely to conform all their fact-finding, decisions, and reasoning to fit the preconceived result. The prosecution should instead be allowed to start with a blank slate and find out as many facts as possible, then test and verify all accusations.
74. Tristen, i have read your posts Very well
Ramzi Sfeir ,   Bethlehem,Palestine   (11.09.06)
Your vision of peace is not mine! it's As simple as THAT! To me, peace is earned by self respect and by respect of the OTHER! And certainly not by verbal or physicial violence! Israel can burn Gaza and the west bank, Hamas can bomb israel as much as they like , ( they have absolutely nothing to loose...)... Saddam can hang.... Bush can start a war against iran and syria....But will all these events have any repercussions on peace ? Other than killing innocents from all the sides , other than creating hatred between everyone! I seriously don't think so! Peace is only reached when there is mutual respect! It's nobody's job to decide how this and that population wants to live! Change can only come deeply from the society in question! The USA will fail in Iraq and afghanistan just as israel will fail in Gaza and the westbank! You guys are dealing with people who lost everything and who have nothing left to loose! Bush keeps talking about democracy, does he know what it stands for ? Look at how wonderful is his regime! NOBODY FEELS SAFE ANYMORE! and it's global! The world is not less or more safe than 6 or 7 years ago...it's just that People like G W Bush or Nicolas Sarkozy ( France) or like Berlusconi and Blair and Sharon and now olmert, decided that everyone should feel unsecure! a New global security Regime is going to control each and every aspect of our lives ( The Patriot Act for example....) It's time to act! To wake up and to say NO ! I feel safe! There is a little ray of light, Berlusconi fell , Blair is on his way out of 10 Downing street , bush lost badly the mid term elections , Sarkozy's situation is not very stable...i am crossing my fingers so that one day, better soon than late, all these tyrants and hate mongers would disappear under the weight of sad history! Maybe then, we will start seeing the light again.....
