From your comments it is clear that you do not even recognize Israel's right to exist, just like many of the so-called Arab nationalists who continue to blame all of the Arab world's problems on Israel and the Jews. Israel is a reality whether you like it or not. It's a viable state, the only democracy in the Middle East with respect for all of its citizens, unlike most of Arab countries. I am an Arab realist. I know that the Arabs will never destroy Israel and will do much better by making peace, RECOGNIZING its right to exist in peace and learn from its success in economy and culture. I want the Palestinians to prosper, as I do want my native Lebanon to succeed. Useless wars, non-stop violence in their name will lead to nothing but more suffering. Only offer of a true peace will lead to a prosperous Middle East. Look at Jordan and the benefits it reaped since signing peace with Israel. Maybe you've been spending way too much time at coffee houses debating with guilt-ridden Canadians or watching Al-Jazeera. I, on the other hand, have been to Lebanon and my opinion is shared by many, many Lebanese (Christians, Druze, Sunni and Shia). They want to co-exist with Israel, not be the battleground for the insane leadership of Iran and Syria.

Pressure "Israel to .. (improve) the situation in Iraq"? It has been proven NOW that the Iranian Regime has trained and armed Shia-militia's of Iraq. President Bush, you are trying to establish democracy in Iraq - while the Iranian Regime is trying to undermine the Iraqi civil society by encouraging sectarian violence. Due to the impending development of Nuclear Bombs - the Iranian Regime is becoming more and more DARING. This Iranian behaviour has to be STOPPED - by taking away those nuclear facilities capable of developing nuclear bombs. Conclusion: the USA has now the RIGHT to bomb those above delineated facilities. WHY USA has the right ?? Because USA is trying to establish democracy in Iraq - and the Iranian Regime is going against that. BTW the above delineated facilities should be BOMBED as soon as possible. The sooner the better. BTW if the above delineated facilities ARE taken out - Iran will NO longer feel invincible - and thus Iran WILL back down from Iraq. So, President Bush, there is NO need to pressure Israel. By dealing with Iran in the abovementioned way - you WILL get assistance of Arab countries "in improving the situation in Iraq".

It may be difficult for a Westerner to understand but the reality is this: PARTIAL solutions are WORTHLESS. That's also why the Gaza withdrawal was worthless. It could have been a good beginning, but standing alone, it was like hopping on a bicycle and then stopping pedalling. There must be a comprehensive solution. Or the region will be totally destroyed in the near future. To Israel and Palestinians: at the core of your solution must lie the trading of East Jerusalem for the right of return. You don't seem to see it, but most of the world understands this. Think about it.

We can only prosper as Arab nations when we realize that the path of nationalism will lead us nowhere. When we stop fooling ourselves by thinking that if only Israel ceased to exist it would make everyone's lives better. That's a failed ideology and will lead to continous recrimination, self-victimization and unrealized potential. Learn from Israel. The Jews survived the biggest injustice in the history of human kind and instead of continuing to be hateful and feel like a constant victim they built a country from scratch. Don't tell me that what the Arabs had in the pre-Israel time was a country. There were a few villages and towns with nothing by agricultural economy and depended on the British for everything. The Arabs who stayed in Israel are more part of Israel's society than their brotheren who fled and still live in squalor in Lebanon, Jordan and other places. I wish my Palestinian brotheren a better luck than be stuck in the 50-year-old past that very few actually remember. I was in Lebanon in July prior to the events, and I've visited Lebanon many times since 2000. I am not a typical Palestinian, I befriend Christians, druze (my best friend), and Shi'ite muslims alike. My hang-out is Jounieh. I've spoken to many Lebanese about the whole situation. Sure they resent the PLO, Iran, Syria, and America for making Lebanon the battlefield it is today. That's unfortunate. HOwever the vast majority of them knew that the common ennemy is Israel - the Middle East's prime destablizing bully, stockpiler of nuclear weapons, and founded on illegal immigration and expulsion of the native Palestinians. Otherwise, would there have been a PLO and the refugees today in Lebanon? Let's be honest here, neither Jordan or Egypt have peace with Israel. Those agreements are nothing more but cold documents stashed away in some safe box. Even Israelis recognize that today. I think rather than bashing Arabs for not accepting "reality" (Mind you we Arabs have our share of shortcomings), you should see also address the injustices which linger on....Perhaps addressing the human angle of all this would result in peace. PS. How many MOSSAD agents operate in Lebanon today?

Reconciliation is a noble idea. The Palestinians have been either displaced or under occupation, oppression and depression for almost 60 years. Retaliation is the only method they know how to relief there mental depression, they cannot blame them selves for this because they do not see it that way.
