Before 1948 there was never such a thing as an Arab State of Palestine. The histor of Judea since the expultion of the Jews is as follows: After the Jews rebelled and were expelled from Judea, the Romans started calling the province Palestina, and under this name it passed to the Eastern Roman Empire, AKA Byzanitines. Some time toward the end of the irst millenium A.D. it was conquered by the first of three succesive Arab Caliphates, which would rule it for the next several ceturies. That is when Arabs began to move there. However the arabs who settled Palestina never had or wanted a state independan t o the chaliphate they were under.. It was only after the area had gone through Turkish control and into the hands of the British after WWI, that the people living there were given the name Palestinians. Still, they did not want a sparate state, they wanted to be part of a Muslim Chaliphate that would be restored once the British were driven out, never the less when they saw that the area was going to be made a Jewish stae they said "no we want it to be a Muslim state." Althouh the Arabs had as much claim to it as they did to southern Spain, they were allowed to have half of Palestina/Judea as a state, one that they nver would have gotten n the irst place if the Jews hadn't decided to establish a homeland for themselves. What about the Golan. Historically, jewish people would seem to have a better claim for increasing their ownership of land beyond the 1967 ceasefire lines.. Surely, that is something you can see. As far as the Golan. Its Isreals you just have to consider war reparations and how territory was carved from the loser of a war that happenned to be the attacker ( Syria ). Thus, Syria has no real claim on Golan, that is wishful thinking.,

WHY does Palestine have to recognize Israel (I'm serious)? I'm not sure if Canada has recognized Tonga -- but does it matter? What Palestinians need to do is recognize PALESTINE, as a separate and independent nation, no? If they assume full responsibility for themselves, and set the course of their own destiny, then who cares what the neighbours think? Palestine could ignore Israel, or not. If they attack Israel, that would be war, and they would lose. Or is it that Palestine (or Israel) does not want a completely separate destiny?

I'm talking about the West. The issue isn't "Liberman", it's "why Liberman". Here's why. Arabs have a shame culture. It's why they find it impossible to admit fault, and learn from their mistakes. They are ashamed that the Jews in Israel, a small nation of 6 million, defeated the power of 350 million Arabs, over and over again. The only way to obliterate the shame is to obliterate Israel. Since so many Arabs are Muslims, their attitude has become generally pervasive amongst all Muslims who tie into the nationalistic aspects of Islam, even Persians who were once friendly with Israel. There is no compromise that will ever appease Muslims or Arabs who feel shame that Israel exists, with one exception - giving Israel to them, and forcing the Jews of Israel to submit to their rule, which in their opinion would be more docile than our rule of the Arabs who live here (about 20% of Israelis). So Europe and now the US is trying that, we see the signs of it all around us. Olmert has merely greased the skids by his mishandling of the Lebanon skirmish. What they don't understand is that once Europe was also Dar al Islam. America is also targeted as such (it wasn't a target the last time - nobody knew much about it and it was hard to get to). Israel's and the West's response to the Arab shame is "guilt". We in the West have a guilt culture. We wish to be fair. We wish to compromise. We "turn the other cheek". We must somehow be at fault. We feel bad that the Muslims and Arabs feel ashamed. We feel we caused that shame. When you have one side that can't admit fault, and another that volunteers to take upon itself fault it doesn't have, you create the potion of politics we see today in the Middle East where one side has no end of demands, and the other side has no end to what it will do to fulfill those demands. Problem is, it is destroying my country. Liberman is proposing himself as the solution to that problem, but if you'll look at how, he is using the same methods the Arabs use. He's fighting fire with fire. The West opposes this because that's not playing by the rules. The rules say that we must voluntarily put our necks into the guillotine if we are Westerners. What people don't "get" is that Liberman, as Russian as he is, is more "Middle Eastern" than Russians or Israelis who now lead us (Ashkenazim). We hope that his way will work, because if not, we're in for a nasty war that will decide it all, one way or the other. Liberman's time, I repeat, has come not as an affirmation of his views, but because no other view has worked. He has power due to the process of elimination, not less than Palestinians claim that Hamas has power due to the process of elimination (they claim that nothing was done by Israelis for peace, a view that underscores my claim that they are impossible to please unless we please them by disappearing). So if we are guilty of anything, it's that we're now trying to be more Arab than the Arabs.

Freedom of speech and civil liberties are one thing. Treason, sedition and consorting with the enemy during war time are something else. If I am not mistaken, the US Administration does not take kindly to people who undermine the security of the United States. The Patriot Act and Guantanamo Bay are the proof of this. In the USA school children swear allegiance to the flag every day. Our Arab citizens enjoy equal rights under the law but work to undermine our security. In some cases they have even helped terrorists commit terror acts and atrocities. Israel’s Arab citizens must decide where their loyalties lie. Are they loyal to the country that feeds them, gives them social benefits and where law and order, at least the Israeli version of it, prevail or do they want to be part of a chaotic Palestinian state where the rule of the gun and anarchy are the law. The attitude of the Arab MK’s has driven many “centrists” towards the right and unless they get their house in order they are going to find that the mood of the country will significantly move to the extreme right. The ball is in their court. I am sure that most Israelis would only be too happy to see a change in Arab attitudes and loyalty and return to the good relations we had prior to Intifada II in 2000.

Hi, David, Actually within Lieberman's party, the Russian members are responsible for more social issues, while the Israeli MKs in it are responsible more for security questions.
