61. #60, John, very well said sir. i appreciate your realism.
Andy ,   Toronto   (01.01.07)
62. Iran is natural leader of middle east
Amin ,   Canada   (01.02.07)
It is too large, its people too united to be stopped by another American war crafted by the Israeli lobby. An attack on Iran would make the middle east 1000X worse for America than it is now.
63. Lets see US and Israel attack Iran - and then what?
Cadavre ,   US   (01.02.07)
If Israel wants to entertain the delusional granduers of war based on the analysis of someone who was President of the Industrialists Association - then go for it - he'll be in the rear with the gear safe with your gold and daughters. So go for it Israel - be martyrs for what ever - but the US will NOT be there - another defeat for us by a rag-tag home militia will be almost as bad as the whupping Isreal ate in the summer. So go for it Israel - on your own - but fist - I suggest you tax Mr. Oded Tira of the Industrialist Association a 70% tax on his assets - he's too old (or smart) to grab a gun and head for frontline fun. Someone has to make sure his maids clean his mansion properly - the least you can let him do, to show his patriotism, would be to cough up 70% of what he owns before Benjy goes marching off to war -again]!
64. Abdulla - Morroco - Perfect
Cadavre   (01.02.07)
It's nice to hear sane rational analysis .We don't get that stuff that often - thanks!

George Bush's eyes are too close together, that's the problem.
66. What about the Jews !!
Michael ,   Palm Bay, Fl   (01.02.07)
The ones in Iran. I've never heard of their opinion on the situation. There's about 11,000 Jews in Iran and I guess they have been able to get along. Quit being such warmongers!
67. Strike on Iran
Paul ,   Leesburg, U.S.A.   (01.03.07)
This is partially in response to the article "What to do with Iran?" by General Oded Tira. As an American I do not think I could agree with his article more in theory. Knowing what we know now the attack on Iraq may have been a mistake given the position my nation was in after the success in Afganistan. With the Iranians being fearful that they would be the next target they were willing to change their foreign policy in an effort to prevent that. I do not think Bush was intending on the war in Iraq taking as long as it has which is most likely do to poor planning for rebuilding the nation after the initial war. Also I would like to say I believe if my nation were going to overthrow a regime after Afganistan Iran clearly was the biggest threat to the region not Iraq. Iran is a country which is governed by the very people the war on terror is supposed to overthrow. However being in the position we are in with my country bogged down In Iraq a full scale assault on Iran would be improbable although a bombing campaign would not be completely out of the question. As for the Iranians so called oil card they have to realize that to stop selling oil would have a catastrophic effect on their economy which makes that statement more an empty threat than anything else. One problem with the war against hizbullah in Lebanon is that it could have pushed the Lebanese government to the brink of collaspe resulting in either a puppet state controlled by Syria or just as likely a hizbullah controlled government either of which would be a major step back in the war on terror. My advice for the Israelis is to begin a bombing campaign on Iran as soon as possible. The vast majority of Americans have great respect for Israel and I have no doubt that my country would join in after an initial attack on Iran. Although this would probably result in more chaos in Iraq. Iran is one country which if acquired nuclear weapons could seriously alter the balance of power in the middle east.
68. To Kleavin
Nora ,   Israel   (01.03.07)
Let me get one thing straight Kleavin, no American soldier God rest their souls has died for Israel. Bush chose Afganistan and Iraq as targets after 9/11 and those decisions had nothing to do with Israel. Incidentally, regarding the WMD's any idiot can figure out Iraq had 6 months to transfer them to Syria.
69. To Ingrid, Norway
Nora ,   Israel   (01.03.07)
Being British myself, I can assure you that the Queen has nothing whatsoever to do with Canada's affairs. Britain has no influence over Canada in any way and being part of the Commonwealth is just token. As for Noam Chomsky, you must be joking, you couldnt find a bigger misled idiot if you tried. All of his rantings are complete distortioning of the truth.
70. To Abe Saddam - Israel - not an issue
Nora ,   Israel   (01.03.07)
I think most Israelis dont give a hoot about Saddam Hussein. He just isnt/wasnt an issue for us, except during the first gulf war when we werent able to retaliate on the scuds he fired at us. I think the real issue was for Bush Senior who didnt finish the job off and had a real bone to pick with him. So to say the Americans did us a favour for being in Iraq and that we're sleeping better now he's gone? Definitely not.
71. To John #60 Everyone's inferiorto us?
Nora ,   Israel   (01.03.07)
"It is the Zionist mentality to assume they are the chosen people, they are holy, everyone else is inferior, and only they know what's best. I think it's based more on paranoia than anything else......" I think your remarks are very insulting and racist. Furthermore, it can hardly be called paranoia when the man's steaming ahead with his nuclear programme while ranting during every speech that Israel must be wiped off the map.
72. pure paranoia
Michel Meyer ,   Paris France   (01.03.07)
Why this paranoia about Iran ? Israel has already the bomb so nobody will be foolish to risk a revenge strike. More, no muslim state will ever bomb Jerusalem, one of the holliest city for them with the El Aqsa Mosque. Wake up, the time is changing ! the neocons are going down the trashbins of history and no one's going to do the same mistake as in Iraq.
73. US and Israel must attack Iran
bill darbyshire ,   Galien, MI USA   (01.07.07)
US and Israel must attack Iran? The failed "leadership" of Cheney and Bush has already brought our once-great America close to the bottom rung of the humanity ladder by attacking two Countries without cause. And an earlier version of this same "leadership" supported both Afghanistan and Iraq by until they decided not to be our puppets. So we spanked them. Badly. In the process we spanked ourselves. Badly. Our "leadership" doesn't talk with or listen to anyone who doesn't see everything exactly as they see it. I suppose it follows then, that they should take your advice and attack Iran before ever sitting face-face with them. I disagree. You want to attack Iran, go ahead and live with the consequences. Don’t tell us we have to do that. But I have to ask you: why should we, the taxpayers of the United States of America, continue to give Israel unquestioning support, or attack Iran at your say-so, when the "leadership" of Israel doesn't talk with or listen to their neighbors? What we really have here are two failing administrations, one in Israel, the other in Washington.... and why should either take advice from the other?
74. to Abdullah
Andrew ,   Oakland, CA, USA   (01.08.07)
excellent analysis Abdullah. You should have your own column.
75. To Patrick, Quebec City, Canada
Fred ,   Newark , NJ USA   (01.17.07)
Please come down to the US and enlist in the Army or the Marine Corps so that YOU can fight for your country --Israel -- but I bet you are too chicken to fight your own war!!
