1. Temple Mount Waqf Photos
Saul ,   Eretz Yisrael   (02.13.07)
Here you go http://www.har-habayt.org/
2. I agree with you..
Abdullah ,   Euro/ME   (02.13.07)
but in addition Jews should protest all work done by the waqf on the temple mount and ensure that there is consensus with the relgious Jewish community. There should be representatives of the Jewish community involved in such work. Fair is fair.
3. The Wizard of Oz shames all Jews
Yacov ,   Ashkelon   (02.13.07)
The Wizard of Oz shames all Jews by trying to manipulate us into throwing away our holiest site. Just as Dorothy had false hopes in the "Wizard of Oz", our modern day Oz also tries to deceive us into believing that giving up our holiest site will lead to peace and salvation. Dorothy had to finally face reality. Israeli Jews have to face reality and stop believing in the deception offered by the current Wizard of Oz.
4. Oz
Dan ,   US   (02.13.07)
What is wrong with Israel today, is the attitude of left-wing appologists like Oz. No one wants bloodshed (except Hamas and the like). But for this dim-witted "author", the enemy is more important than the aspirations and cultural center of his own people. The whole current Kadima "leadership" has the same cowardly attitude. We should all follow grandmother Oz's good advice in matters of the mashiach and the survivall of the Jews. Probably she would say that if we lie low, the waqf will allow us to live a little longer as subservient jews, provided, of course, that we accept "dhimmitude".
5. I don't agree with Oz
Righteous Gentile ,   Lusaka, Zambia   (02.13.07)
Araunah's threshing floor was bought at a great price by King David. Such advice as to 'wait and see' is incongruent with the Torah. I guess you guys are not even praying for Mashiach whom you claim will be the one to decide the issue. If you were praying you would have known that Mashiach is ready to back your stand. G-d said to Moses, 'what are crying out to me for, strike the water...' Do we not all know the story? If you adopt a wait and see attitude over the things of Mashiack, you are gonna be just that. Howevr, you can be zealous for Hashe your G-d and can make a big difference as a 'Light to the Gentiles'.
6. just ask
Fares ,   cleveland   (02.13.07)
you said if the messiah comes and says .....it is good to see you again as oppose to nice meeting you and who should apologize from who ..i have a solution for you .......why don't you ask the Muslims about the real story and what happened and who is the messiah (jesus PBUH himself ) ...just ask a third party .. by the way ...why do you think your Gradmother knows the truth .. and finally ..your analysis is wrong from the getgo ...people are dying and willing to because their holy site are under occupation unless you were living on the moom when Sharon visited the Aqsa and sparked the second intifada to win the election ..a lot of people died sir . to recap . holy site is the first and may be the more important issue ..anything else will fall in place after that . just my opinion .
7. Quit denial
Jonathan M. Boyko ,   Ofrah, Israel   (02.13.07)
No, really. Repression of Palestinians is not a result of occupation, but a result of their decades-long fight against Israel, which has nothing to do with occupation (should I remind when PLO was created?). Not to mention the fact that right now there would be no settlements and occupation if Palestinians wouldn't have continued terror campaign and increased their terror activity more and more since Oslo accords. Besides that, if the works would be at the Temple Mount, I might have agreed that this is a complex problem that should be thought about first. But here the case is different. Temple Mount is not touched, and radical Islamists use the works that have absolutely no way of hurting any Muslim holy side to spark hatred among their people. So should we be afraid of any such thing? If they say tomorrow that riding a bus is against Islam and it hurts Muslims' feelings and all Muslims should attack Israel because of it - should we stop riding busses? The violence sparked after the beginning of works are not a result of these works, but rather a result of the propaganda by Muslim religious leaders all over the Arab world. At first, Arabs barely even noticed the works. Only several days later, when the anti-works propaganda started all over the Muslim world, some of them came and became violent in the Old City.
8. Weakness in Argument
Anthony ,   London   (02.13.07)
I like this article and the overall message that we should live and let live. But this construction at the Kotel was never going to change the status quo. It never was going to do any of the things that it was accused of - it was merely rennovation and making the site easier to access. The only reason there were protests from the Muslims is because they hate our guts and assume that everything we do is evil. Sure lets focus attention on the the occupation and the myriad other things that we might be able to resolve - but in the meantime let's not cower into submission every time a Muslim pretends to be offended by something.
9. Temple Mount
Avraham ,   NYC   (02.13.07)
Arabs build an illegal third mosque on the Temple Mount and get a permission from the Israeli government to add another minaret, and no Israelis protest. A Jewish development company wants to restore a walkway (bridge) to the Mughrabi gate, there are calls for incitement and violence coming from various parts of the Arab world and Israel's own fifth column of traitors such as Salah. The disparity in reactions between the two groups is absolutely stunning. For Israel to exist as a viable and independent state (as much as possible before the Messianic era), it must exercise its full sovereignty and control over the Temple Mount without any compromise with its avowed enemies.
10. The key issue
Sam ,   Canada   (02.13.07)
The Palestinians have been "rotting" in the refugee camps as Amos Oz says because they refuse to listen to any solution other than moving to Israel proper. Not even the secular left accepts this in Israel (they accept, perhaps, very limited numbers). The Palestinians refuse to cooperate with Canada, in charge of finding solutions for the Palestinians refugees. Unless, this attitude changes there is no solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Canada is ready to do its job.
11. has oz ever given a thought to the Jewish refugees?
dante ,   uk   (02.13.07)
Israeli negotiaters, diplomats, politicians have repeatedly and inexplicably been outwitted: NO DISCUSSION of arab refugees should ever take place unless, at the same time, the claims of Jewish refugees from arab countries is addressed. unlike the arab refugees, the Jews were, for the most part, not villagers, peasants, nomads. they were part of the bourgeioisie; when they left, they left valuable businesses, homes, personal property. and, there were more than 750,000 Jewish refugees. of course, this is lost on oz, one of the most morose, pessimistic, and cynical writers.
12. Amos, you ared flat wrong! This is not a religious
Allan ,   US   (02.13.07)
issue but a sovreignty issue. Jerusalen is Israel's eternal capitol and an integral part of Eretz Israel. As such, the governmet of Israel, as the elected representative of the Israeli people and of the Jewish Nation has every right, no, obligation to exercise its sovreignty over its lands and not bow to Islamic pressure and terror. If the Islamists and Waqf do not like what Israel does on its own land that is simply too bad. I don't recall any Arab country ever asking for the Jews' approval in matters concerning the Arab nations. Why should Israel care for or ask for Arab and Palestinian approval?
13. Typical dhimmi. How sad and pathetic.
Daisy ,   USA   (02.13.07)
14. oz is a coward like the mayor!
jason white ,   afula,israel   (02.13.07)
It is OUR Jewish capitol. The Temple Mount is Jewish! We should destroy all those who deny it or riot.
15. Holy sites cannot wait and...
enzo ,   london,uk   (02.13.07)
they are not owned by silly little humans!!!
16. Interesting thought that may come to past
Roy Galut ,   Selah Washington USA   (02.13.07)
Quote:If the Messiah comes and says: Hello there, it's good to see you again - the Jews would have to admit their mistake. But if he comes and says: Nice to meet you - the Christian world would have to apologize to the Jews. Until then, let's live and let live, said my grandmother. : the disposition of the mount is all ready writtin 2500 years ago Ezekiiel 40 thru 48 G-d is waiting for israel as a nation to return to Torah
17. Amos Oz called Religious Jews 'Hezbollah in Skullcaps'
Marc ,   Israel   (02.13.07)
Amos Oz is an extreme leftwing polemicist with a fierce hatred of Judaism and of the heroic Jews who have returned to Judea and Samaria. Oz had made a speech to a "Peace Now" rally that was later written up for the New York Times. Oz called the movement of the faithful "a messianic sect, obtuse and cruel, which has emerged from a dark corner of Jerusalem." Hope for the messiah is fundamental to Judaism; to reject it is to reject the nation's heritage, which is what Oz and his camp do in surrendering Judea and Samaria to Arab Jew-killers. Not only are Jewish settlers a "small cruel messianic cult," said Oz, "they want to impose on us" [leftwing, secular Jews] a wild and insane blood ritual." His remarks were an unadulterated blood libel, the kind one used to expect from Kremlin propagandists. And Oz went beyond his Protocols of the Elders of Zion idiom. He compared settlers to Arab terrorists ("their Jewishness is of the Hezbollah kind, their Zionism is that of Abu Nidal") Given his stand on Religious Jews and Judaism, he has lost all crediblity.
18. Most Israelis don't read Oz, the fact he is a hit in Germany
Beth Landau ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (02.13.07)
pretty much says it all.
19. Amos Oz
JK ,   NYC   (02.14.07)
He act more like Amos n Andy, why would he care, does he pray, observe any jewish laws, why would he care, why would've his mother care for the same reasons. I believe he think because he really helped build the country he feels compelled to destroy it because it has'nt lived up to his fantasies.

23. Put the new Minaret and Salomon Stables construction to.....
(02.14.07)
to Jerusalem residents to express their views on the matter, so that it can be built with understanding and mutual consent between Jews and Arabs. Do the same with the new something that King Abdullah donated to Al Aksa recently.
24. Put the new Minaret and Salomon Stables construction to.....
Chanan ,   USA   (02.14.07)

25. Amos Oz
PE Haberman ,   Gan Yavneh, Israel   (02.14.07)
You are an embarassment. In your eyes will there ever come a time that israel can assert its sovereignty over any part of the country, let alone its capitol?? Must we Jews always beg others for Our right to live in Our Homeland? No matter what we do, no matter how sensitive we are to the Arabs' (false) concerns, we will never reach an accord with them. It is finally time for us to do what we need to, what we want and what is in our best interest. The Arabs will never be happy with our actions unless its mass suicide. Screw them, screw the world and its false hysteria: A municipality can rebuild an earthen ramp without apologists, hand wrangling self hating Jews like you attacking Israel.
26. Anti-religious Israeli Left still doesn't get it .
AK   (02.14.07)
Religion and religious symbols are important --may be not to an atheistic Jew, but certainly to everybody else, especially to Muslims. Islam is an ultimate replacement theology -- they replace people and cultures and religions with their creed, thus religious symbols are crucial. The whole world now keeps repeating that Temple Mount and Jerusalem is the third holiest place to Muslims and everybody, including Jews should keep their hands off it. Palestinians are authentic dwellers while the Jews are European interlopers. Now, every Jew and every European deep down knows that it is pure nonsense -- Jews have always been considered a foreign nation in Europe, expelled from one country after another, and the Temple Mount has never really been holly to Muslims and neither has been Jerusalem. But the Temple Mount is a symbol of Jewish faith and nationhood, and that’s why the Arabs are waging such an uncompromising fight over it. Can a person be so totally blinded by his hate of a religion that he refuses to admit the obvious political repercussion, even after his position has led to an international delegitimization of the state of Israel? Israel can not afford be in denial any longer – its Jewish national identity is being invalidated. Not even Spanish Inquisition managed to do as much damage to the identity of the Jews as the ‘progressive’ Israeli ‘secular’ intellectuals managed to do. From one atheist to another, Mr. Oz, religious symbols matter, that’s why ALL Arabs demand Jerusalem, the symbol of religious and national Jewishness.
27. The Holy Sites question FIRST not last
AMIR   (02.14.07)
Amos OZ just shutt up, stop making everything that simple like those who undermine the effect of the Holocaust. The Temple Mount is Har Habayt and the Moslems should and will accept this truth sooner or later! the Holy sites in Yerushalayim is the answer for all these wars and conflicts. The Christians have their holy sites, the moslems have their"s and what about the Jews?!!! And Your dear garndmother is wrong the Jews and the Christians made each other suffer not just the Christians! Kol tov khaver
28. hey beth (18) who says israelis don't read him?

29. The Messiah's Coming
Reply to Fares - 6. ,   Glasgow, Scotland   (02.14.07)
is certainly not going to be about manmade structures, rather the judgement of those who put worshipping them before worshipping Him and this applies to Jews, Christians, Muslims or anyone else. To worship the Lord God with all your heart, soul and mind leaves no room to worship anything else. This is the land that God gave to Israel for as long as that portion exists, until that great day, the last day, so why should others lay claim to anything in it? Israel will be judged by how they handled that, for the land is no more than a symbol of the relationship between God and His own. Heaven is the real land and God Himself it's temple.
30. #14 "we should destroy allt hose who deny it"
Rustum ,   London, UK   (02.14.07)
I sometimes wonder at the sanity of people who write statements like that in post number 14. Not only does the writer often call for the destruction of those who take part in "anti-state" activities - but here we have, in black and white, a beautiful neo-Nazo call for the "destruction" of all those people who might think that the Temple Mount has a significance other than a that of a purely Jewish site. I wonder if the writer has read Mein Kampf, or knows anything about the history of fascist states in Europe or has even an inkling of the meaning of freedom of thought and freedom of speech. His call to "destroy all those who deny it" begs the question "how"? I believe I and many others who read this site would be interested in reading #14's methods for "destroying" those who disagree with him, viz, by bombing? by machine guns? other methods? Please do elaborate. It would be a great sign of your humanity if you would explain how you plan on destroying a billion or more people.
