31. No.
Michael Steiner   (03.06.07)
Israel is the homeland of Jews, the only place in the world where we can flee to escape persecution and--in theory--be safe. In the past fifteen years we let in hordes of goyim (fake Jews) because of certain people's obsession with demographics and now we have swastikas being sprayed all over the place. While I believe that non-Jews, particularly those with partners who are Israeli citizens or residents should have the right to immigrate to Israel, Jews should be given preferential treatment.
32. Isn't it like a Leftists to cheer the demise of Israel
(03.06.07)
Israel does not need any Indian software engineers. It is interesting that the article is accompanied with the photo of women in burkhahs. This is what the author really cheers for. He longs to be in a minority; he abhors to be in a majority. He would rather live under sharia than in a Jewish state. In other words, he'll not be happy unless and until somebody gives him a daily swift kick in his backside to get him off the sidewalk or push him to the rear of the bus. Yes, the emigration he advocates would underminine the balance between Jews and Arabs, and Jews and others as well. Hertzel must be turning in his grave. Mr. london's grandparents must be turning in their graves as well. Judging from this article, London is no different from the son of a Russian Orthodox priest.
33. #7, As a Canadian, what interest is it to you
AK   (03.06.07)
Why do you even bother to read this paper and post here. You're a Canadian; your country is Canada; Israel is a foreign country to you, so please, stay away.
34. #31, Michael, I believe, that 'fake' Jews could be made real
AK   (03.06.07)
It is the fault of that calcified religious establishment in Israel, which holds an absolute monopoly on religion, that turns those people away from Judaism and Jewishness, instead of embracing them.
35. NO WAY!
Avraham ,   Netivot   (03.06.07)
36. NO MORE GENTILES
Steve ,   Tel Aviv   (03.06.07)
I am 100% jewish, and I want Israel to be for jews, and jews only. Send the arabs to the west bank or gaza (or better yet Jordan)....and grant aliyah only to those jews who have at least one jewish parent. Exclude their families. Israel is overpopulated as it is, we do not need jew hating gentiles in this country....and we certainly don't need arabs, OUR ENEMY. Sooner or later, it will happen. AM YISRAEL CHAI
37. London's idea is a recipe for destruction
Converted Jew ,   Israel   (03.06.07)
What a crock. London's idea is probably being received gleefully by every Muslim and anti-semite world wide. How can you have a Jewish State minus Jews? London is just another 'hachmolog' with a platform paid for by the people of Israel.
38. the law is anti freedom to the dead also
kwala ,   jerusalem   (03.06.07)
i want to be a jewish for any reason may be to have the rights or to return to jerusalem as like the city toomuch .. but sure my father would had no freedom only to look for a jewish girl to marry .. oh you take the freedom of the dead man
39. The only way to deter anti-Zionists from
Name ,   City & country   (03.06.07)
immigrating to Israel, is to stop the special benefits and delay full citizenship for 2 years. This way, only Zionists would immigrate. The money from the benefits should go to creating jobs.
40. The Law of return is certainly correct, in any country !
(03.06.07)
"from ash to ash" is always right in any place!
41. is it a one way law ?
(03.06.07)
those Jews who went from Arab countries to Israel, why they have changed their skin and do not want to come back? they are not a trivial minority? are they!
42. The Law of return is unfair
Abdullah ,   EuMe   (03.06.07)
This is one point I got form the article. It brings into israel lots of non-Jews (even by the most inclusive standards) and gives them more rights than the "indiginous" non-jewsih population (arabs). The second point is that many of these non-jewish olim aren't interested in becoming "jewish" either in a religious or even cultural sense, and so add very little value to the "jewishness" of the state either demographically or culturally but rather hurt the state on both counts. The third point is that, if israel is going to flood the country with non-jewish olim using the right of return, then it better bring in skilled and cultured people who can be educated to feel a sense of national pride in israel as their country, rather than unskilled, unpatriotic folks. Even if you don't agree with the author. Deal with some of the issues his article highlights. That is either fix the law to bring in only Jews and thus resolve the halachic issues (very difficult) or if you're going to birng in non-jews and give them more rights than the "indigenous", then target the non-jews to be people who are willing to identify with Jewishness and benefit the economy.
43. #22 - Ram
Iamashamed ,   UK   (03.06.07)
A lot of people in Israel think of Israeli Arabs as Fifth-columnists. What are you, or people like you, then in your countries of residence?
44. #34, "fake" Jews cannot be made real
Abdullah ,   EuMe   (03.06.07)
If their mother is not Jewish and if they do not have Jewish "souls" no-thing can make them Jewish not even a "rubber-stamp" conversion. The israeli rabanut is not to blame and is not "calcified". It is doing what it is supposed to do. That is to safeguard the Jewish religion (the essense of Jewish identity) from being hijacked by opportunists. This goal transcends all "national" concerns.
45. Possible solutions.
Keren ,   SP-now in Israel   (03.06.07)
"Only the fear of Arab demography, and no other motive, prompted us to apply the "Law of Return" to people who have no affiliation to Israel." The affirmation above is very correct, and the problem resulted from this situation is that Israel has become filled not only with people who DO NOT HAVE SPIRITUAL AND CULTURAL CONNECTION WITH JEWS,but as well with anti-semites and all kind of other odds like ,for example,Christians wanting to convert us to their faith ,and other strange things. Today,in the morning, inside the bus,a woman fiercely tried to make me read a crhistian kind of propaganda and tried to convince me that it was Torah. Yesterday I saw the same in a street: a woman(seeming to be evangelic or something like that)distributing prayers or something . So,many things have been happening in Israel that have nothing to do with Judaims and with Jews. That is very, very clear. Anyone who walks in the streets and ride on buses in the day by day, sees that something very strange has been attempted here in Israel. Something very wrong has been happening with the immigration in this country. As I observe, the majority, lately, entering the country are not Jews at all. One solution could be make military service absolutely compulsory in Israel, absolutely! Those who do not accept should not be able to live here. I suppose muslims ,in general, will not accept such a thing and eventually some arabs would. Only those who accept and prove to be faithfull to Israel and serve Israel ,should be integrated to this country ,and those who are not ,should somehow be tranfered to an arab country or eventually to Israeli territories as Gaza.(and the palis living there ,to Jordan) Being the arab problem resolved in Israel,it should start aplying the law of return according to Judaims and not hitlerism as Kyle#4 very correctly says. People can call us racists or whatever, but the remaining fact is that Israel is the Jewish country and so it must remain. We have already suffered too much ,from times to times ,for our faith, and too much fight for this land has been done by OUR people. It must be considered! We are back after 2000 thousand years, and this is not to be put in the bin!It has not been easy at all! And one thing is for sure:If Israel keeps trying to please everybody,it will end unpleased. Therefore, first we and then others. And sometimes, tough measures must be applied for the right to prevail.
46. Abdullah -- you are a smart man
Jo   (03.06.07)
I have to say to you, ABdullah, that you are a very smart free-thinker. Your observations are very correct, but you will never guess so by the vehement responses of Brooklynite wackos talking back on this website. For some reason, the typical responders here are ultra right wing nut jobs, of the kind we are struggling with in Israel, and prevent any proper solutions to the problems at hand. I hope they fade away.
47. So importing in millions of Goyim will save Israel?
Joel ,   TAviv   (03.06.07)
London's gone so left wing he's fallen over the edge.
48. abolish law of return
bear ,   zefat   (03.06.07)
If you like goyim so much, go somewhere else to live!
49. Abdullah, muslims convert with one sentence
AK   (03.06.07)
so you are the right person to comment on 'rubber stamped'Jewish conversions. Besides, Jewishness is both a religion AND nationality; after all, Mr. London considers himself and is considered by others a Jew, while I am quite certain that he does not practice ANY religion, including Judaism.
50. Abolishing Law of Retun
Joe ,   Israel   (03.06.07)
That's exactly what the Arabs are waiting for. It amazes me how much the Israelis are expert in shooting themselves in the foot. Wake up you naive people!!
51. Yemenite Jews take refuge in Sanaa hotel
AK   (03.06.07)
The headline says in this paper, yet Mr. London thinks there is no need for the Law of Return?
52. law of return
J.SCHUMANN ,   VANC ,CANADA   (03.06.07)
What are the promises of the HOLY ONE of Israel to his heritage .Read from Genesis to Revelation .Those who curry favour with the enemy of Israel act like Esau who sold his birthright [ Gen.25, Romans 9.13,Heb.12.16-18] and deny the promises given by GOD to Abraham,Issac,Jacob [Gen.12-17],even the sure mercies of David[Isiaah 55.3,Jeremiah 30-33].Their would betrayed YHWEY and did, for 30 pieces of silver [Zechariah 11.12-13 ]as recorded in THE HOLY SCRIPTURE of TRUTH and was done to the SON[Psalm 2,Proverbs 30.1-6,Matthew 26-27,Hebrews 1-3.4]..I used the K.J.V.at biblegateway.com. as reference.
53. Anyone with a Jewish heart
Hebrew Girl ,   USA   (03.06.07)
I think that anyone with a Jewish heart should be allowed to immigrate to Israel whether they have Jewish blood or not. Clearly some Russian immigrants who had a little bit of Jewish blood didn't have a Jewish soul. It shouldn't be about race it should be about belief. If someone is willing to ally themself with Israel and the Zionist cause they should be allowed to be citizens of Israel. I guess that does exclude the arabs but Israel must not forget the reason it was founded; to be a homeland for the Jews.
54. I'd abolish his law of return
Ilanit ,   Netanya   (03.06.07)
Time to deny such 5th columns entry to our country. They have no place here considering how they spend every waking moment dreaming up ways to destroy Israel.
55. A safe haven
Naftali ,   brooklyn, USA   (03.06.07)
If Israel is to be a safe haven for all Jews everywhere then the law of return must stay and furthermore who is Jewish should be determined the same way hitler did if one grandparent is Jewish. true that does not neccessarily make someone jewish however if they are to be persecuted together with people who are actually jewish they are our brothers and sisters how can we turn them away.
56. EMPOWER JEWISH MOVEMENTS
RCA ,   USA   (03.07.07)
Abolish the Chief Rabbinate. Create a level playing field. Resident Arabs may stay. Limit Arab immigration and non-Jewish citizenship by quota cap. Empower individual Jewish movements to submit conversion criteria based on their movement requirements. Enforce standards on entry or conversion of individual movements. Born into a diasporic movement or converted places Jews in line for immigration and citizenship Individual movement members may switch between movements as they desire based on the requirements of the accepting movement. The Law of Return would be applicable to those born into a particular movement or those who convert into one . All movements should have an annual and equal figure quota cap for immigration established by the State, based on its needs. Members of the Diaspora would have access to immigration and citizenship before non -Jews. This is just a brief outline of WHAT COULD BE DONE.
57. divine justice
carl ,   london   (03.07.07)
the right of return law would be excelent if it wasn't a law based on race(racist).the right of return should be for ALL peoplewho want to return to their homeland including the palestinians.the whole world is laughing at israel because of its claim'this land was promised to us by god'.most of the ashkanzi jews have no link to israel let alone judaism.just face it, this blatant racism and persecution of the real victims will only make life in israel worse. if nyou can't give justice then i'm sure one day you will recieve divine justice. just remember this war is not between jew and muslim but between good and evil!!!!
58. When other countries do the same
David ,   Rehovot   (03.07.07)
Scotland, Italy and many other Western Christian countries allow descendent's of citizens an easy path to citizenship. We all know that you can't be a citizen in Saudi Arabia if you're not Muslim and that many other Muslim nations make it much easier for Muslims to move there. Israel is the only Jewish State. The fact that this discussion repeatedly comes up only in the context of Israel is absolute proof of antisemitism. When all Christian and Muslim nations have "fair" immigration laws, defined the same way you claim Israel should have them, then we'll talk. Until then, Israel has the right to a law of return the same as other countries.
59. Law of Return
Jacob Franks ,   Los Angeles, USA   (03.07.07)
The law of return is racist. Abolishing it would move Israel into the 21st century in the field of civil rights. Say no to racism, yes to the human race.
60. I'm afraid we can't do that #59
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (03.08.07)
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the whole world was just one big humman race and we all loved each other and had no conflicts and no prefjudices and we all wanted the same thing? Yes it would be, but the world isn't that way, and the differences between people of different cultures (and different races) require that different people have different countries in which they can be free from prejudice and be able to determine their own destiny. And this is especially true for a people like the Jews who, first of all are very few and if they din't have their own state would likely lose their identity and second of all have been adn continue to be persecuted. I know you have good intentions Jacob, but remember that gould intentions pave the road to hell. and nowhere I think is that more evident than in peoples' attempts to unify humanity as you would like. Such an eventuality can be achieved in two ways, The first way, attempted by the far right, which thinks that its own viewpoint is perfect, is to suppress all viewpoints different from your own and thus impose your view points on others. The second way, attempted by the far left, which thinks that other people are all wonderful and their ponts' of view are just as wonderful as they are, is to allow other people to impose all of their points of view on you, and as you would find out if you lived in a society with views oppesed to your own (and I don't mean the moderately-liberal United State;, I Russia, Saudi Arabia, or some other ultra-conservative Eastern nation) this approach quickly leads to your viewpoint being suppressed by others that you really don't like. (Imagine if you lived in a country where I was the majority and you were the minority and had to obey all my rules and could'nt have your own country) What the Israeli right is trying to do is to protect its own ideals, but it isn't forcing them on anyone else. The Palestinians and Israeli Arabs are free to leave whenever they want, and theonly reason they can't take their land with them is that abundant adn very painful experience has shown that that would jepordize the freedom and security of the people who stayed behind.
