Many embassies in Jerusalem ? Maybe one , a tiny south american country . All the embassies are in Tel Aviv , Ramat Gan and so on . Sad to say , but you are so wrong .

Simon Mohammed ,   Falls Church, VA USA   (05.13.07)
that the 1967 war happened by a premidated act from you and not because the arab did attack you. cause you claim this the 40 years anniversary of unification through a war that you claim was rised against you 40 years ago. so it look like you are the ones who started it but have been claiming you were attacked and the world tried to accept this fact bu logicaly it doen't make a sens. this is just a constation of fact through logical and historical event and not an attempt to discredet anyone. MY total respect to you all. good luck

Since the Liberation [ unther labor ! ] of My Capital there have been many governments . Did you hear about Menachem Begin ? Shamir ? Bibi ? they were also heads of governement , not labor , but rightist , ultra rightist . Did they achieve something regarding the recognition of reunited Jerusalem as capital of Israel ? Did they have all the embassies transfered there ? No of course , but the one you blame is the actual democratically elected government . I prefer to say that's only lack of knowledge on your side , but , you are not alone , many of the tbers talk without knowing anything .
96. To All My Israeli Friends
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. USA   (05.13.07)
Go ahead and have the Jerusalem Day, the heck with the US and EU. King Hussein was asked not to join the fight in 67, he fired artillery instead. The Arabs had control illegally since 48. Temples were desecrated, and tomb stones used as floors for latrines. It's obvious the US is again playing politics. I agree that in a settlement, Arab holy sites, and perhaps some neighborhoods can be cut loose from Israeli responsibility..including social security benefits, pensions, etc. If Israel leaves, it should leave. I think that in the US, we Jews should have our own "Jerusalem Day", in addition to the annual march for Israel. Let's show them OUR POWER. The US is more concerned with gay rights and abortion, than what Israel does or doesn't do.

If Jerusalem was truly reunited , more Jewish Israelis would visit all of this town . In the 70s it was very different . You could walk around , eat in an Arab restaurant without fearing anything . Now ? you can go from Yafo gate , rechov David , at the end , turn right to the Jewish quarter , that's all [ if you have no arms to defend yourself ] You are , sad to say , very wrong .

What you say about Jerusalem, we could also say about Washington DC. It's a city with good and bad neighborhoods, and if you go for a stroll, you'd better be careful you don't stumble into the less privileged streets. I haven't been there for some time but I don't expect it to have changed much. Most big cities in the Western world, including capitals, have the same problem of cultures living side by side but never really meeting except in unfortunate circumstances, such as during crime and violence. It's sad but true. And just as sad is to watch Paris becoming a city of two irreconciliable cultures. How much are the Jews to blame for the Jerusalem divide? Much less than many people think. Just observe how Jews adjust to life among the general population everywhere in the world, while other cultures do not.
101. to #96, the friends of my fiends. Per your Logic , the 48
Simon Mohammed ,   Falls Church, VA USA   (05.13.07)
Line you drew is what is called the UN resolution to divide between people there (it doesn't matter their beleive, race/color etc) and create 2 state. the 48 pre or post is stating a 50%50 for each side. so 48 will be a worst solution for our friend then 67. talking about reality and power you have it all but as # 97 state and every one is aware life isn't that fun in that area at this time. the goal is that people accept each other and respect the other holy site/beleive and work togother in a positive way to fin thing that unit them rather then divide them. this with no notion of one will be superior to the other. there fore a spiritual city or God city as the ultimate wise solution "if mutual respect is there through a will of the people" and politicaly divided as east for pal state and west for Israel. there is will be a waste of money for all the country of the world to open 2 ambassy in one an area virtualy divided or unified in people brain mostely they don't live their but just advice. thank you and good luck
102. #1, #11, #31 : About capitals and embassies
Tobias ,   Germany   (05.13.07)
#1: The capital of a country is chosen by the gov. / parliament of the respective country, not by the UN or other countries. What would you say if the EU told the USA that, for example, Chicago is their capital, instead of W. DC. The Israeli Parliament decided in 1950, that Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Israel. The Parliament, the ministries and the residences of the PM and the Pres., are all in Jerusalem. #11: No, there aren't many embassies in Jerusalem. All, or almost all of the few embassies which had been in Jerusalem 20 years ago have been moved to Tel Aviv. Maybe there's still an embassy of a small Central American state in Jerusalem, but not more. All of the other states which have embassies in Israel, have them in T.A. Most of them had them always in T.A. The USA had promised to move their embassy to Jerusalem in the 90's, but they haven't done it, it's still in T.A. Maybe there're consulates in Jerusalem, but not embassies. And consulates can be in many cities, there are also some in Haifa. #31: No, the capital is not always where the parliament is. The parliament or government decides where the capital ist, this can also be another city. For example, after the reunification the German parliament decided to declare Berlin capital again, but it took some years until the parliament was moved from Bonn to the building in Berlin which first had to be renovated. So for some years, the German capital was Berlin, while the parliament and gov. were in Bonn. And even some years after the parliament and gov. had moved to Berlin, some countries had (and maybe still have) their embassies in Bonn - for example because they don't have the money to move (esp. many african countries), or it still took some years to build a now emb. in Berlin (e.g. USA). I think, also in Netherlands the seat of parliament (Den Haag) is different from the capital (Amsterdam).
103. dont ever
harold ,   canada   (05.13.07)
Germany recognize borders LOL. come on thats just stupid. just over 50 years ago they where awash in our blood. Europe was only too willing to help, england watched by and never bombed the railroads. They talk of israel and borders LOL
104. Even worse: The European position
Tobias ,   Germany   (05.13.07)
The German Embassy is quotes in the article: "We believe that Jerusalem's future should be part of the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. " This doesn't only mean that Jerusalem isn't considered to be the Israeli capital. This means that Jerusalem - all of Jerusalem, including the western part - should be object of negotiations with the palestinians. The EU still views Jerusalem in the light of the UN partition plan: Jerusalem not being yet part of any state. I want to emphasise that I don't agree with my government in this question! Debating the fact that Jerusalem (at least the western part) is Israeli territory and the capital, is ridiculous. It is already capital since 1950. And Israel shouldn't ever give up again the Old City, ancient Jerusalem. It's a shame that even the Israeli governments don't seem to be really sure what the status of east Jerusalem is - they say it belongs to Israel, but they let its residents vote in the P.A. elections, (thus indirectly acknoledging that it is part of the P.A.), and they don't try to do anything to stop the muslims digging in the temple Mount.
105. Calling things by their names!
Abdullah ,   Kuwait   (05.13.07)
The day Israelis and pro Israel occupation of Arab lands Jews and non-Jews realize that being anti-occupation by no way means anti-Semite, then and only then our region will see peace come upon it! Sure, Israel is not responsible for the terrorism happening in region directly but not reaching a just solution to the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands will always the fuel that keeps extremists resorting to terror in order to achieve their sick goals! One other funny thing I am realizing while checking the ynet bloggers that many of whom calling themselves as Israelis are in fact Americans who do not give a flying hoot about Israel because they have chosen to live in the US rather than what is supposed to be their "God given right", so can anyone please explain to me this paradox?
106. Boycotters
Brod ,   USA   (05.13.07)
Since when did the boycotters start worshipping their new god--the dark forces? Have they forgotten the atrocities of the dark forces on 9/11 and all over the world? Or, have they been hypnotized by the dark forces to do their dirty bidding?
107. Embassies & Consulates
Shoshannah ,   Jerusalem, ISRAEL   (05.13.07)
The US Embassy in Israel has always been in Tel Aviv. In 1995, the US Congress passed the US Embassy Act stating that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and that the embassy should move there (there's a big plot of land in the Talpiot area that was set aside for that purpose... it's still waiting). Unfortunately, they included a clause giving the President the opportunity to sign a waiver putting off the move. Bill Clinton and now George Bush have both signed waivers to that effect every six months. It's up to the Congress, which is supposed to represent the American people, to insist on the move by turning the "act" into a binding law. The US Consulate in Jerusalem does NOT exist as a branch of the US Embassy (though Israeli citizens and US citizens either resident in or visiting Israel are allowed to use the administrative functions rather than travel to Tel Aviv), but rather is on the same diplomatic level as the Embassy with the Consul General reporting directly to the Secretary of State rather than to the ambassador in Tel Aviv. This is because the Consul General's job is to represent the USA to the Palestinian Authority. However, while there are no political embassies in Israel capital, there is one embassy that was established here in 1980. That is the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, which represents NOT governments but people from all over the world. Thank you ICEJ and all your members worldwide for your continuing support of the Undivided City of Jerusalem, Israel's Eternal Capital!

brod, do you ever look at yourself and the mirror and repeatedly say "are you lookin' at me?" Are you looking at me?
109. So much for recognizing Israel
Steve ,   USA   (05.14.07)
B"H If the nations of the world cannot recognize Israel's borders, these nations cannot recognize Israel fully. This is the major difficulty that Israel faces now, a challenge to its sovereignty. These nations do not accept the outcome of the wars Israel has fought previously, and do not fully recognize Israel now. How can you recognize a state, but not recognize its military boarder? That is thinking on the fence. I am not making a value judgement, but I am saying that this is a sign of not recognizing Israel's sovereignty that Israel is having to deal with.
110. #95 Charles
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (05.14.07)
Oh you mean the goverment that is supported by Israeli polls by only 3% of the people. Yep your right. At least Begin, Bibi and the others did not give away Israel peace by peace for nothing. Begin at least got a peace treaty altough now I think it was a mistake.
111. #105 Adullah
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (05.14.07)
Adullah I am a Jew. Israel is a Jewish country not a Sabra Country. I was in Israel during the 73 war and had many friends killed and wounded. I was almost caught in a terrorist attack where 25 innocent men women and children were killed. So don't tell me I don't have a stake in this country. Israel may have idiots as leaders now but that will change I am sure about that.
112. further US Consulate info
mike ,   jerusalem   (05.14.07)
and it should be noted that the US Consulate in Jerusalem has 2 branches, one in West and one in East Jerusalem, further symbolic evidence of a divided city.
113. to kevin #100
mike ,   jerusalem   (05.14.07)
big difference kevin in your example and as a former resident of Wash DC (Brookland neighborhood) is that the problems of cultures in US....they are nearly all americans, or americans to be. It is not a nationality issue as it is here. It adds a whole other dynamic to your example and therefore I dont think its applicable.

116. # 109 existential threats; all are Israeli made
(05.14.07)
-not defining a border for the state. -non-recognition of Palestinians already living on their land. -shift of capital to occpied land -thinking that Holocaust denial is existential threat. -claiming the right of attacking neighbor states whenever allegedly "feeling like" a threat might be there.
117. #111 a credit of betrayal of the USA
(05.14.07)
Had you served in the IDF, the credit would have been greater .
118. Response to SAM (post #111)
Abdullah ,   Kuwait   (05.14.07)
Hello Mr. Sam, With all due respect, I just would like to ask a general question for people like you who are Jewish Americans and Israelis at the same time, with whom you give your full loyalty and to whom will you give your full allegiance if one day Israel and the US were in conflict with each other? IMO, this dual loyalty to both nations is a bull and you know it! Cheers.
119. Simon Mohammed
charles ,   petach tikva Israel   (05.14.07)
To live together peacefully , i would like . But tell me , how can Jews and Arabs live peacefully together , if the Arabs in Gaza can't live together ? they kill each other .
120. Sam Weinstein
charles ,   petach tikva   (05.14.07)
Where did you got those 3 % ? In Yehuda Shomron ? So in your eyes Begin gave away something for nothing , but's only a mistake , not to blame him .
