Israel is small country. Tactically and strategically there are no buffer areas that can be used in case of an Arab "first strike" conventional attack. Numerically, arabs can count on a number of soldiers and resources higher than Israel movimenting a small fraction of their population. The only deterrent Israel has is a nuclear response. Blix indication for a WMD free zone in MidEast is not to recognize the differences between Israel and the Arabs that want to get their A-Bomb. Sun Tzu used to say that "an army that rely to defend a country on the hope of never being attacked by the enemy is already defeated". Probably Blix NEVER read Sun Tzu.

blix, as chief u.n. inspector, was unable to verify iraqi compliance with international inspection, but he didn't have the balls to stand by his own report to the security council about iraqi wmds. what gives him this marvellous insight into what's best for israel's survival?

Hans Blix is an irrational madman. I know, there's nothing new about that. Only a delusional fool would call for Israel to disarm itself of its rightful assets without first having a peaceful, democratic, non-fundamental-Islamist, transparent, and accountable government in Iran. Until then, Blix's idea is dumber than Chronic. Meanwhile, the quickest way to a nuke-free Iran is to wipe their program out, from the air, and replace their gov't with a freely elected government. The Ayatollahs must leave politics alone! Iran must stop funding, supporting, and creating terror. Iran must stop abusing its women and denying its citizens basic human rights. Iran must stop denying the Holocaust. Iran must stop comparing the Holocaust to the Palestinian's self-inflicted disasters. Iran must stop threatening to "wipe Israel off the Map". If, Iran knew when to shut up..Than the world would not be in this position. US and Israel will not launch a Nuclear attack on Iran. But, when you have a president speaking out about hatred towards certain religions and countries. Than claiming the Holocaust never happened? That is when people get scared. The Saudis even want this whole situation over. Iran will have its mouth closed by the Saudis, Kuwaits and Emirates. The middle east will not let another Gulf War happen.

So, israel doesn't get the benefits of NPT, but neither is it obligated to keep it. Iran, on the other hand, did sign NPT, and it is obligated to keep it. If Iran wants to leave the NPT, it can, but it is not that simple. Article X says: "1. Each Party shall in exercising its national sovereignty have the right to withdraw from the Treaty if it decides that extraordinary events, related to the subject matter of this Treaty, have jeopardized the supreme interests of its country. It shall give notice of such withdrawal to all other Parties to the Treaty and to the United Nations Security Council three months in advance. Such notice shall include a statement of the extraordinary events it regards as having jeopardized its supreme interests." If Iran can persuade the security council that it does have right to leave it, it can. If it can't, it has to keep it.
