31. brain dead security people
Ernalud France ,   Tours, France   (06.03.07)
Yes... send a 70 year old cultured woman from a friendly country to go through extended security procedures and let 20-40 year old Yemenites, Egyptians, Saudis and Jordanian Palestinians go through with a cursory check of hand luggage. The name of the game SHOULD BE profiling. It's the Arabs and Muslims which forced the security checks on us in the first place. Not the Israelis, not the Italians, not the Chinese and not the Russians. But if you ever had the misfortune to meet a security officer in a US airport you met a brain dead robot programed to function without recourse to any dimension of intelligence. On the other hand the passport control officers there are cut of a different cloth. They are far more pleasant and alert to the sensibilities of the visitor. But generally, the Israeli is not a welcome visitor in the US.
32. I can't believe how insensitive these TBs are
Michelle ,   Vancouver, Canada   (06.03.07)
The procedures this lady had to go through were extraordinary ones, not those you and me are used to. I've had to take off my shoes, and once someone went through my carry on luggage. But what they did to her was not based on any reasonable cause for alarm. It was random. It could have been a 90 year old Jewish grandma that was subjected to that humiliating treatment, while the potential terrorists receive just a cursory check. All that just because they want to prove to CAIR that they are being politically correct.
33. OVER-REACTING TO STANDARD SCREENING PROCEDURES
david ,   usa   (06.03.07)
DON'T WORRY, ITS NOT B/C YOU'RE ISRAELI, IT'S JUST THE WAY THEY SCREEN RANDOMLY EVERYONE, DON'T GIVE THE AIRPORT PERSONAL ANYMORE CREDIT THEN THEY DESERVE, IT'S MORE OR LESS AN ASSEMBLY LINE WITHOUT THOUGHT OR LOGIC
34. Article waste of time
Marcell ,   Israel   (06.03.07)
I think that the dear doctor is over-reacting.
35. gOOD FOR THE GOOSE GOOD FOR THE GANDER
mike ,   Jerusalem   (06.03.07)
I suggest that we set up such a chamber in Ben Gurion Airport and use it on all UN officials and US diplomats. I would love to be a fly on the wall when Condi Rice or Richard Little Dick Jones goes through it
36. #32 to show to CAIR means to harass both Jews & Muslims !
observer   (06.03.07)
maybe you are right
37. You must be kidding
Al ,   Los Angeles, CA   (06.03.07)
This is the standard protocol for security checks in the US. Some people are selected at random - Israeli passport has nothing to do with it - for a thorough screening. The fact that the woman does not know about it is unfortunate, as is the fact that she is emotionally unstable. And anyone who travels in the US (and I would think Israel as well) has encountered the explosive-detectors, or could easily figure out what they are, and while they may be annoyed, they should not be dismayed. While I also have relatives who died in the Holocaust, I think the claims about "gas chamber" smack of a silly attempt to build up a law suit for some quick cash...It seems unlikely that someone so well educated could be so upset by this experience, unless they were unbalanced to begin with... Note that I am not defending the security personnel in US airports, who can be somewhat rigid bordering on rude. But my point is, their behavior cannot possibly justify the woman's claims; what is described in the article is routine for anyone who get selected for the thorough search.
38. "in a tone as if she was talking to a retard"
(06.03.07)
This says it all. I've travelled a lot to many parts of the States and the permanent impression that I've taken away is that of rudeness and bullying by anone in a position of authority. It costs nothing to be polite and explain what is going on. While I agree with the absolute need for security procedures it is possible to be polite and non-intimidatory. Ask any of my non-Jewish friends how they were treated at Ben Gurion and by the Israeli security staff in London and they will tell you that our security staff act in an exempliary manner.
39. Airport checks
Mohammad ,   Belfast   (06.03.07)
I am a university professor and the same thing happened to me in the US. It even happened to my wife despite the fact we had a baby and another child with us. These are random checks that they do as part of their security. They did the same thing to me in Israel at the airport. In Israel they do worse things in the name of security especially if your name is mohammad or ahmad or to any arab who goes through security. To complain about this is really double standard since if you don't accept done to you, you should not reflect the same thing on others. May ebe it is time to reflect on what you do to the palestinians!!!!!!!!!!!
40. #12 Jewish Iraelis aren't a potential threat!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (06.03.07)
So-called 'palestinians' are!! She should sue!!
41. Gas Chamber ????
Michael ,   Haifa   (06.03.07)
what an incredibly silly woman
42. The woman should be ashamed
David ,   San Francisco   (06.03.07)
it's a pain in the neck and a real hassle to get searched by airport security anywhere, and they are oftern rude. but talking about how they put you in a "gas chamber" because you are Jewish when you suffer some kind of petty personal affront is really offensive.
43. US airport security
Marian ,   Israel   (06.03.07)
I wonder how a respected American doctor would have felt had he/she undergone such treatement in Israel the same way? On one hand the American security system does not segregate due to some laws of suposedly being called racist or violating some rights, and on the other hand they check people according to what exactly? Explaining to a passenger why he/she is being checked is the very basic of a proper security check. I know, I did it for many years for EL-AL in various countries in Europe. The first thing I would teach new security officers was to always be friendly, explain as much as possible to the passanger (showing respect at all times) and to check every detail we had to regardless. One can catch a terrorist while being polite - Imagine That !!?? But being rude, and hummiliating people has nothing to do with a good and thorough security check!!!! It is plain stupid and typical for hysterical security checks with no bases for selecting the right target. Start selecting the real targets and finally wisen up is all I can say. And to the hummiliated doctor - You should get a proper apology and demand an official reproach from our Defense Min. to the ones in charge of your bad treatment! Terrists vcan come in all ages, shapes and genders - catching finding them can be done in a polite way. I know!
44. Cross a checkpoint at West Bank & you will be overqualified
Palesinian ,   Palestine   (06.03.07)
Dear Dr, Cross a checkpoint at West Bank & you will be overqualified for such Humilation. Didn't you pass through Ben Gurion!! It is a good experience too.
45. to # 37
Marian ,   Israel   (06.03.07)
If this is a random check it just proves how stupid and innefective these checks are! If they would really want to find terrorists they would start using their brains for once and teach that a terrorist at ease is a lot easier to catch than getting regular passangers upset at rude and hummiliating treatement! Statistics prove that practically every person flying anywhere is not at ease as they usually could be. A stressed out regualr person may seem suspicious. We were given a brain and senses to use for such a time as this - why not use it and be smart for once? Everyne is missing the target here - good security includes proper behavious from the security personnel - it is one of the basics. Any check done by a friendly officer will be far better accepted and even understood by passangers.
46. The key word is RANDOM
Otter   (06.03.07)
Which in this case is useless. When you have thousands of passengers going through security check procedures, it would make sense to concentrate on the few that merit extra attention. While they waste time checking on passengers with very low security risk, dozens of others that could be a risk are waved through. Is this security? Or is it no better than a lottery draw. Can anyone feel more secure this way or with a politically incorrect racially profiled check? American airtravel security is a failure. It's pure luck that nothing has happened yet. Two items: One: cleaning crews have complete access to aircraft , yet they are not checked at all. Two: bags in baggage compartment are not checked either. Only carry on baggage get X-ray screening. The so-called security at American airports is nothing but a show. The treatment inflicted on Dr. Zilberman was unjustified. Thank CAIR for that.
47. Welcome to Today's America!
Bubba ,   Oklahoma City, USA   (06.03.07)
Dear Dr. Zilberman, I have experienced the same type search as you endured and I too thought I was being singled out until I saw a very pretty young lady and then a mother toting one of her three children que up for the same inspection I was undergoing. You were not singled out. Thanks to the idiocy of the PC (politically correct) crowd in the US, the TSA (the people who searched you) cannot profile individuals for search (as is intelligently done at Israeli airports) because this is deemed racist and therefore people must be chosen at random. It was your lucky day! If you and your associates could convince the American Medical community that PC thinking is a mental disorder, millions of Americans would love you for it. Welcome to the new USA!!
48. Israelis at American Airports
Roxy ,   Israel   (06.03.07)
my family & I have dual passports, except for my spouse who just has an Israeli passport, we never were subjected to any humilating treatment by airport authorites in NY or Fla. They even allowed my husband to pass with us through the section for americans entering the country. We have always received nood treatment when passing through customs, they even allowed my autistic son to go through with his empty water bottle when we explained it to security that the bottle was his "security" and that he needed it to feel calm. I don't know why this Dr was singled out, maybe she was just the person picked, but The Airport I am sure did not mean to humiliate her, but to protect lives, this is a dangerous world, and we must except a little hassles to save lives. When I flew to Europe they made us take our shoes off to go through security, thank the Terrorists for that, don't blame the airlines or the governments for wanting to protect the flying public post 9/11
49. the worse part of it...
Andre ,   TLV   (06.03.07)
is that this pathetic incident went to the cover of Ynet... no wonder the holocaust is losing its value. wake up people, why to put such a ridiculous statement online? Where are the editors of this site?
50. to Otter #46
Marian ,   Israel   (06.03.07)
I could not agree more! What a waste of tax paiers money on these random checks. An yet, it is a ot harder to do an effective check in the U.S. than in Israel or flight to Israel. One cannot underestimate the enormous amount of apssangers that need checks. But implementing what u sugested would be a good beginning, from there on to proper profiling and being smart about it could actually work.
51. my little sister and I went through this too
Ronit ,   Israel   (06.03.07)
My ten year old sister and I also had to go through that air chamber in Miami. I can't say it hurt though. It was just very strong air blowing at us from all over. However, we were sent from one lane to the other like crazy by the people working in the airport, who were extremely rude to us and one went so far so as to scream at me in front of everyone when I politely told her that we had already been sent to three different lanes. For a moment there and because of the way she reacted to what I had said, I was terrified that she would call in security against me and my sister. After they took our bags from us and made us take off our shoes and jackets, I had a conversation with the man going through my bag. I asked him if they select the people randomly (a question I knew the answer to anyway since there were only Muslims and Israeli Jews in the extra security area), and he laughed and said "That's what I'm supposed to tell you." Later he said that he didn't understand why in the world they would send two clearly innocent young girls to the extra security area.
52. #6
Phillip ,   NYC USA   (06.03.07)
This woman statement is a insult to the six million that were put in gas chambers. David to compare the US to Germany with regard to neo Nazis is also insulting. If you do not feel wecomed here LEAVE... as I see youi did. Now just stay away along with this paranoid doctor.
53. Dear Dr....noProblems !

55. #39 MOST TERRORISTS LOOK MIDDLE EASTERN, SECURITY PROFILING
david ,   usa   (06.03.07)
IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT, SECURITY EXISTS FOR EVERYONES SAFETY, DON'T BLAME SECURITY FOR PROFILING CERTAIN TYPES OF PEOPLE AS YOUR AVERAGE TERRORIST THESE DAYS AND IN THE PAST 30 YEARS, ALL HAVE SIMILAR PROFILES AND YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
56. Re: #6
Greg ,   LA, USA   (06.03.07)
David, you made me cry. What, the US, so selfish country cares of the interest of its own, NOT Israelis! Geez, what mofo's!!!! How could they?! FYI, it's rather the US does whatever iSSrael says, not the other way around, vide last war in Iraq. David, Judea: get a grip on yourself, join MARINES, you can make your whinies come true, you p...sy.
57. the security service in ben gurion airp uses worst method

60. To # 44 palestinian
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.03.07)
But on the checkpoints in Judea Samaria there are many , if not most , potential suicide bombers who are trying to go thru . So they have to be checked in a "serious" way . The same at Ben Gourion airport . Do'nt forget that you , the palestinians , are guilty for this situation here in Israel , and the muslim terrorists for this situation worldwide .
