61. no. 3 and 27
gm ,   south africa   (06.07.07)
you can say that the druzes "collaborated" with the Israelis, but we, in the real world, call it a partnership. One that is against injustice, propoganda and lies, which you and your people spew forth. There is no apartheid sytem in Israel, unless you call keeping terrorists out apartheid.
62. to no.27 and all those who refer to Apartheid
mike ,   Uk   (06.07.07)
Someone please explain to me something...Apartheid, as was in South Africa, prevented Black from mixing with whites...separate buses, bathrooms etc etc...It seems that is is lefty fashionable to say Israel is Apartheid State...but I have been to shopping centres, on buses, in restaurants and Jew and Arab are not separated? So whats this with the Apartheid thing??????
63. mairi, ian, joy - thank you

This talkback has been a breath of fresh air. It is good to know that this group of so-called "academics" do not represent other British.
64. #58 rj: Jews have brought a lot of good to humanity
abdullah ,   germany   (06.07.07)
to say the least. But you're in error to underestimate muslim contributions in mathematics, science and the arts and philosophy, which were essential to the devlopment of western civilisation. Clealry these contributions were a while back but were essential to civilisation as we know it today. Furthermore "micro-financing" which is an intelligent way of exploiting capitalism to solve poverty was invented by a muslim in the last decade. Presently muslims are contributing in many scientific and medical professions. None of this detracts from jewish achievements. But the truth still needs to be told.
65. TO 62 mike- IS THIS APARTHEID ENOUGH FOR YOU

just bx u did not see fountainswith signs saying jews only or arabs does not mean it's not there...Carter first emphasized that apharteid is not apparent in israel proper (even though there is systematic discrmination) such as arab israelis cannot buy land in many areas...poor dev budgets..etc but the APARTHEID meant was the system in the West bank where arabs are subject to military occupation law while jewish settlers in the same land subject to civilian law.... 1. jewish settlers can drive on certain convenient roads/highways AND BUSES which arabs are banned from, also jews can travel uninterrupted anywhere they want while arabs are banned to often travel from one arab city to another within the occupied zone or subject to exhausting permits & checks. 2. jews can drill for water as they wish for their swimming pools while an arab farmer is banned from drilling without israel's approval & limited to shallow depths which is not enough to water his crops. 3. an arab who "breaks the law" can be shot with little to no recourse or put in administrative detention which can take years without trial based on war law while a jew is subject to civilian court if even persecuted which ends in a slap on the wrist & a wink. 4. for trade, arabs are subject to harsh often make shift rules fro transport of their crops within & out of West bank leading often to rottening their crops while they wait security checks...jews are NOT. 5. In jerusalem apartheid is most obvious yet can be unnoticed unless u mingle with arabs where they are subject to hefty taxes with limitations on their vertical & horizontal construction & rules that require them to annually prove their presence to maintain their right to be residents impeding their growth, travel & development while their jewish neighbours are exempt from all of that.....pure slow process of emptying jerusalem from arabs.... ALL ELABORATELY DONE UNDER SECURITY NICE PRETENCES. IS THIS APARTHEID ENOUGH FOR YOU?

67. every oppression has its UNCLE TOMS, so are the DRUZ

69. gm, south africa: the tora refers to bnei yisra'el - 2nd try
abdulla ,   germany   (06.07.07)
that is G-d promises to return bnei yisra'el to the land of yisra'el or more accurately the land promised to avraham, yishak and ya'akob, which is a lot of land indeed, much larger than all of the state of isreal and the "territories" combined. The promise in the tora talks about G-d gathering bnei yisra'el from all the peoples he scattered them. Clearly, this INCLUDES halachic jews (who have unbroken heritage to the patriarchs) but it does not exclude other descendents of yisra'el who happened to have lost their way but somehow still maintained an attachement to the land and to G-d. So some of the russian goyim that return under the right of return may very well be descendants of the patriarchs being returned (against all logic of a jewish state). And in a similar token some, if not many, of the palistinians may be considered by G-d to be descendants of yisra'el to be returned. Of course they don't have the sochnut yahadut to help them. Clearly it is g-d's job to return ALL of bnei yisra'el, as only he knows EVERY single one. The sochnut yahadut tries but, understandably, does have its limits. But it too brings muslims with verifiable jewish heritage to the land. So don't be too quick to dismiss palistinians, as you don't know what divine zchuyoth some of them might have to the land.
70. Mr. Hanifas goes to London
Amy ,   New York, USA   (06.07.07)
Not only is he studying in English while in England, but England did its level best to eradicate Afrikaans in South Africa, insisting that all schools teach only in English. The Brits are sanctimonious hypocrites.
71. Khaled still ignorant
Eldar   (06.07.07)
As a matter of fact, Khaled, read the 5 books of Moses and find that many of the rules are how to run a country - urban planning, governance, judicial system. The entire biblical narrative is about our return to Israel and setting up kingdoms and fighting for them. You lose if you think the bible is only a religious document. You are clearly not someone who wishes to learn, but someone who has an argument to make and will narrowly select any "fact" to suit your argument. And no, there is nothing that justifies any abuse that Palestinians suffer under Israel, short of those examples that are self defense (responding to YOUR rockets from independent Palestinian Gaza). Let's be clear that YOU rejected partition - you had no place for Jews - you and your leaders have chosen the gun over the olive branch. We would leave all of the territories captured in '67 if there was any hope that YOU would begin state building rather than weapon building.
72. #66, And thank you
Danny   (06.07.07)
for showing why Israel must be vigilent against lies propagated against it: Most land is owned by the state, no one can buy it. 1) There are NO Jewish only roads in the West Bank. There are ISRAELI only roads, Israeli arabs are perfectly free to use them - they in fact make up the majority of the usuage on some of them. 3) Israel is at war with the Palestinians. To prosecute an Israeli soldier, you have to show that there was no threat to the soldiers life and guess what, in reality that hardly happens. Firstly because nearly 70% of Palestinians killed were killed whilst "actively participating in hostilities" and of the rest most where bystanders during an firefight or a assasination. 4) To date, no Jews have carried out suicide bombings in Israel. Why should the army check people who pose no threat to them? and Jews are subject to security checks, allbeit cursory. 5) Erm, EVERYbody in Jersualem is subject to heavy taxes. If Israel is trying to empty Jersusalem of Arabs, it isn't doing a good job as Arabs are a larger percentage of Jerusalem every year. The only people flowing out of Jerusalem are Jews, because of .... taxes and restrictions. "pretence of security"??? I guess those 1000+ Israelis blew themselves up then
73. to mike
rami   (06.08.07)
jews don't have to blow themselves up, cause they have F 16s & apaches to blow their enemies. arab israelis of 48 maybe able to travel on roads but such roads but these roads are DEFACTO meant for jewish settlers not for arabs of WB....arabs have to prove residence in jerusalem to maintain their "yellow residence card" unless they apply for israeli passport....while jews are not...an attempt to impose unilateral facts on jerusalem...arabs are still increasing bx they are resliently stuck & attached to their land despite ur prosecution....as for the rest of ur bullshit....don't tell me the exclusion of major arab neighbourhoods from jerusalem borders like abu dees is innocently done based on administrative needs.....look at the freekin map..or never mind cause i though u were innocently inquiring, not the first victim of the lies u ureself are trying to sell...
74. #73, well that is the most pathetic excuse
Danny   (06.08.07)
So you are claiming suicide bombing is because the Palestinians have no weapons? The vast majority of Palestinians killed in the last 7 years have been shot not killed by missiles. Also if the suicide bombers are "resisting" why are their targets almost universally civilians? Why do they evade the "humiliating" checkpoints? Why do they go round the "humiliating" settlements to hit pizza restaurants and buses? As for the roads, I see we have finally got someone to admit that the roads are not "Jewish only". I also had to prove I was Israeli to get my ID card and also my passport - neither of which I had a choice about. As for the arab neighbourhoods, haven't you heard Abu Dis isn't part of Jerusalem, you need to talk to your anti-Israeli friends when they claim Abu Dis was offered in 2000 and that isn't really East Jerusalem. Of the course, I agree with your last comment. You are the victim of lies you try to sell....
75. to Danny
rami   (06.09.07)
all i am saying, give us apaches and F16s and i promise u u won't see suicide bomers going to pizzarias...that's all. as for the rest of ur crap, just bx 48 arabs maybe allowed to go on such roads, they r fundementally & practically for jewish settlers & banned to arabs of 67....that's still an apartheid....for abu dis, ya we don't want it if in return we have to sign up for our right in east jerusalem proper.....i noticed u did not bring up the excessive measures used to empty east jeruselem from the rest of its arab citizens, i guess u concede that...

tsedek ,   israel   (06.09.07)
very good. my respect to you.

78. ashamed to be british
chrissie5720 ,   aberdeen, scotland   (06.10.07)
As a lecturer at an FE college, this mob of looney lefty twats make me ashamed to be British. The people who rushed this through are a very tiny majority who simply took advantage of the apathy of the majority of the Union membership, not that that is any excuse. There are moves afoot to get the boycott reversed, hopefully there will be enough people with at least one brain cell voting this time round and this rubbish will be thrown out. I would like to apologise on behalf of all decent British academics, but don't blame us all, we don't all condone such anti-Israel lies and propoganda.
