91. Threat hunter # 84 part 2
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.14.07)
You wrote : if you are not on a party list , you can't get a seat in the Knesseth . Try to go to the polls as an independant candidate . This can exist in some countries , merely for local elections . You wrote : MK merely represent what share of the votes their party got . What is wrong here ? do you want a party with 20 % of the votes to have 60 MK's ? In France you have representatives elected for each "arrondissement" [ not the exact word ] You can have there a majority in the parlement , without having the majority of the national votes . The example i gave in my precedent tb has also as a result enormous election bullettins . All the candidates from all the parties are listed . The country is divided in electoral regions , for each one different bullettins , with different names on each of them . You can't vote for a candidate of another region . It's more democratic than in our country .You can try to change our system . Good luck and Shalom
92. charles - your arrogance speaks volumes
threat hunter ,   eisham, israel   (06.14.07)
charles, you know, better than me? Boy, you don't know anything about me. you should not assume and you should know why. anyway, you are entirely missing the point, charles. joining the system of protectzia and combina is NOT the way to fix or change the problem. this country has existed in its current state for just about 60 years and every attempt to reform the system of protectzia and combina has been quashed by those whose interests are vested in it. the point is: there is no meritocracy in the israeli government. there is no accountability in the israeli government. there are NO MKs elected by CONSTITUENTS. MKs do not represent ANY district or region or specific population. MKs get put into the knesset according to the number on the list that they attained, and whether or not the party got enough votes for their number to get in. I do not have an MK that represents me. You do not have an MK that represents you. NO ONE has an MK that represents anyone in Israel. if you think you do, please tell us, who is your MK and what is your MKs phone number? That is why all the petty MKs all think they are of a "national" stature. It is a complete joke, and it might be funny if it weren't so detrimental to our state. In America, in Britain, in France, and in many other representative and parliamentary democracies, if you have a problem with the government, you can call your local congressperson, or parliamentarian. In israel, who can you call exactly to discuss your local concerns or even your national concerns? Who will take your phone call? in Israel, if you're lucky, you get through to a PR person. You don't get through to a politician, and even if you did, again, that politician does not care about your concern, because you did not help get him/her into office. all you might have done is help that person's party get another vote. whoopee. that means diddly poop. the thing that got that person into office in israel, is his/her protectzia and combina within the corrupt party structure. due to those facts, no MK feels obliged to respond to any real concerns that israelis have day to day on every issue be it large, small, local, regional or national. the fact that you don't understand any of this, or seem to reject the idea that Israel's government needs a revolution, tells me a great deal about what you learned about politics, and what you failed to learn, when you lived outside of israel. Israel has the opportunity to change and improve itself by having 120 districts in which we would directly elect the MKs, therefore they would each have local concerns, and they would be accountable to their constituents, or else they would lose their jobs when their constituents are tired of their useless antics. finally charles, and all of you who might not "get it" yet: i hope that when the revolution is underway, you will do more than just defend a broken system like a defensive sensitive child with the political sophistication of a ghetto slug. i hope you will contribute to the advancement of accountable government in israel. Shalom.

You wrote : mk get put into the Knesseth ...and wether their party get enough to have them there or not . Do you want to say that a party can have a greater number of MK's than they deserve by the number of votes ? Try to understand what i wrote , as i said already our electoral system is not the most democratic . The examples i gave are more . But to cry , and not to act , is not a solution . There is somethiing as "ichoud Hashilton" or so . Are you active there ? they want to ameliorate the democracy in our land . I do'nt know you , even not you name , hidden unther an anonymous one [ i hate this ] . But i know that i lived in another country , participated there in elections , and know how it works . Regarding direct representatives , are you sure that they do'nt "buy" votes ? I'm not so sure of this . You can of course be in touch with your representative . But your candidate is also named by a political party . And this can also be not so "nicely" done . It would also be better that to vote would be made obligatory . Now most of the parties who have a sectorial backing [ the religious for example ] have all their supporters voting for them . The more "moderate", or not so extreme in their views , voters , are going less to vote . You see , every system has his + and his - . There is no perfect one . I will probably not contribute much to a change in the system , but i'm not crying neither . If this is arrogance , let it be , mr anonymous, who tries to give lessons but does not act , as far as is known .
94. #92 Threat Hunter - Well said!
Robert ,   USA   (06.14.07)
Those are incontrovertible facts. Unless the electoral system is changed, Israel will remain bogged down and unable to survive the challenges from without and within its borders.
95. Robert # 94
(06.14.07)
Listen my dear , with this kind of electoral system , Israel was victorious in all her life endangering wars , the six days and Yom kippour . So do'nt come from your faraway country , with no connection to Israeli reality , to tell us how to behave .
96. 95 - Anonymous - Your debt is to the IDF
Robert ,   USA   (06.14.07)
Don't push your luck. You have survived not because of your electoral system but because of the courage of the men who fought and gave their lives in those wars and who protect Israel every day and night. The bumbling politicians were to blame for almost losing those wars. The Israeli electorate is being cheated of its power to make decisions for the country. Your electoral system is being defended by those who don't have the best interests of Israel in mind, only their own. If you personally want to be treated like a child, handing over the right to decide what's best for the country to political party power brokers, that's your prerogative. But most Israelis would prefer a change. Why not have a referendum on the matter? Or don't you trust Israelis to do their own thinking?
97. Robert # 96
charles ,   petach tikva   (06.14.07)
first # 95 is mine . Tell me who gives orders to the IDF ? who gives them the possibilities to work ? Yes , Robert , the elected Knesseth . Of course , on the ground the IDF does the job , not the politicians . But also , the high command is also put in place by the politicians , the elected ones . This form of elections could be ameliorated ? Yes , as in every country . A referendum ? we are not the Swiss who can have a "votation" on many issues . Do you have referendums in your country ? As far as is known to me , no . do'nt trust the American people ? Why do'nt you have one on the Irak war , many , if not most , Americans oppose this war , no ? and your President stays in place ? That's the way Democracy works , people vote , MK's are elected for a certain period , and if you do'nt agree any more with the way how it's done , wait for the next elections . You can't change the Knesset every six , or less , months .
