You could be right about the whole thing's being a ploy. How, exactly, do these people manage such a long trek and who's helping them? GA has instituted some tough penalties for hiring or renting to illegals. When the law went into effect and Mexicans literally fled from GA, the locals were the first ones to scream about all the business they lost. The landlord signs a lease with one legal person, who, for the proper fees, of course, allows X # of not so legals to move in. The cash fees from the illegals are split between the legal tenant and the landlords. Collecting $2800 for something that normally leases for $1200 and $1600 of that being under the table is too much of a temptation for a lot of people, especially when multiplied by X # of rentals. I own some rentals, but being also an immigrant, I do owe this country a lot and if nothing else, at least, respect for the letter and spirit of its laws. Besides, I can’t keep up with 2 kids, I’m not about to start counting and keeping track of illegal Mexicans, and there’s no amount of money for which I take a chance on ending up in jail for tax evasion. I may not be very demanding, but I do have my standards, and I don’t believe I’d be happy with the accommodations. There is, however, one bright spot to our dilemma: All the kids born in the US to these illegals are citizens. Although they’re a drain on our resources right now, by virtue of that citizenship, they can’t, unlike their parents, fly under the radar, and in the not too distant future, they will be stewed, screwed, tattooed and taxed just like the rest of us and that has to be good for the country. That could be the reason, too, for our politicians’ doing their weird dances. Why upset the apple cart, when the problem, more than likely, will solve itself? Above all, a few more million Christians of whatever ilk and spread out all over the country have to be less of a future threat than what’s brewing in some suburbs here and there.
