So , if your "explanation" is right , why is this title not writen RABY , but Rabbi ? I rely more on my encyclopedia than on your "explanation"

What do this explain ? is there a relation ? Are you sure that there are no gay Orthodox Rabbi's ? Not openly of course , it would be a "schande in a biesche"
65. #14 S. Wine & Soviet Jewry
LM ,   Michigan, USA   (08.01.07)
In 1969 I attended a lecture given by S. Wine on the topic of Soviet Jewry, after he returned from a visit to the USSR. He said that Jews in the USSR were "HAPPY" living under Communism and that it was only a "few malcontents" who were troublemaking. Other Reform rabbis repeated what he said. Of course, a few years later they all jumped on the "Soviet Jewry" bandwagon when it became a popular cause, but this is one of the things that drove me away from Reform Judaism and its leadership.

Christy ,   Boston, US   (08.02.07)
I had heard of Atheist Pastors as well as Pagans who were Priests (both in Protestant Churches). This is the first I've heard of an Atheist Rabbi. I would respectfully ask that Atheists, Pagans, Agnostics and others who don't believe in the G_d of the Bible .. take other titles. It doesn't make any sense if they don't. Rabbi, Pastor and Priest are titles that have been used for centuries for people who believe in the G_d of the Bible and instruct others about how to live according to their particular faith. It doesn't make sense for someone who has NO FAITH in G_d (as revealed in the Bible) to take one of these titles upon himself/herself. If you want to partake in only the cultural aspects of Judaism or Christianity, please call yourself something other than Rabbi, Pastor or Priest.
68. Dacon , i know it , You make a big error
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.02.07)
Rabbi means : my master or teacher , and not what you are writing
69. Christy , have they copyright ?
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.02.07)
If a Jewish congregation wants to call her leader Rabbi , what means "my master" nobody can tell them that it is not allowed . It's their leader , their Master , and they only have to decide wich title to give him .

Mr. Wine is no longer an atheist, and Bertrand Russell wishes he had become a Christian.

Why do the talk backs always degenerate into mud slinging? Try looking at a person’s life positively; even if it doesn't agree with your personal politics. He helped many people reconcile their cultural Judaism and non-belief in a god who other wise would have been excluded. He helped people who would otherwise be marginalised and shunned from mainstream Judaism, be able to remain close to their heritage. And he at least was honest about who he was, not suppressing aspects of his personality to conform to archaic notions of morality.
72. Atheist Rabbi?
Alan ,   Atlanta, GA   (08.03.07)
How is leading Jews ( actually misleading) to practice a totally secular lifestyle helpful? Would it not have been better had this "great leader" led people to a better understanding if G-d in their life? Its sad that so many Jews are non believers. There is much to believe in.
