2. Ah, lights on but nobody's home with this guy hey?
ra'naan ,   Israel   (07.31.07)
3. Could someone translate this report for me?
Baffled ,   USA   (07.31.07)
Hundreds of Golan residents? Does that mean Jewish or Arab residents? Is the Peace with Syria movement a branch of Peace Now? And how many Jewish residents of Golan are part of this movement? Or was this a meeting of a dozen Marxist kibbutzim with a couple of hundred Arabs? Does this mean that the Golan Jews can't wait for the time when they have to abandon their homes for an unknown future so that the Syrians can have their land and their homes? I try to understand. I really try to understand you, Israelis, but there are times when I simply have to give up. Please help.
4. CALL FOR OLMERT'S OVERTHROW!
stude ham   (07.31.07)
That's more urgently needed for Israel than this 'give up golan' rally... which is probably being run by the idiot olmert/peres junta and their treasonous collaborators.
5. Self inflicted fatal wound
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (07.31.07)
Many Golan "residents" have signed for piece talks with Syria, now. Who is behind that petition? How many suicidal Golan residents are there? President Assad`s "willingness" for piece negotiations can only be a cyanide capsule for the Golan residents' future. Ask former Gaza residents.
6. we must talk to Assad!
t.i ,   Israel   (07.31.07)
what do we have to lose if we will decide to talk with Syria? do you want a stupid war without trying the negotiation's way? , as a matter of fact, it's impossible to achieve peace with Syria as long as Usa's isolation, but we still need to exert the diplomatic process than war, Syria is very important country in the geopolitical relations on the middle east affairs, bar peace with Syria, the middle east won't be stabilized area, never. Usa can isolate Syria from Iran, it's not impossible as it seems. Syria can help by crackdown radical muslims operatives. the baath regime know very well how to deal with them, wants some proof?, have look about assad's father crackdown against the muslim brotherhood organization in 1982, all the west should embrace the baath regime policy's towards the radical Islam.
7. Pressuring the USA
Steve ,   USA   (07.31.07)
B"H This move is meant to pressure the United States, because Syria does not want to negotiate with Israel directly. It rather wants Israel to be a bargaining chip in negotiating with the United States. I am not following for the ruse. You could have millions of Israelis wanting the United States to make a bad move, and I would say no way! It is not in tne interests of United States foreign policy to sacrifice Israel here, so forget it. Quote: During the rally, former Foreign Ministry Director General Alon Liel, who heads the movement, called on Israel’s government to launch negotiations with Syrian President Bashar Assad and urged US President George W. Bush to allow such a move.
8. #6 What do you have to lose?
Kim   (07.31.07)
How about losing Jewish land? What else would Syria want to talk about other than getting their claws on the Golan? If Syria wants peace, good. Then Israel won't attack Syria. End of discussion.
9. where in the world ???
erik ,   holon   (07.31.07)
Russia has part of Finland,Japan and Germany. US has part of Mexico. UK has Falkland Island(Malvinas) belong to Argentina.Show me one country who gave up land after winning the war.
10. About time...
woww ,   LA, CA   (07.31.07)
to start talking to Syria, practically the last really secular arab country. Some solution modeled on mostly Hong Kong might work the best. The residents would not have to leave. The Golan is valuable only with the residents living on it making it prosper, the know how is the key. Syria is not Gaza, they actually might want progress and the improvment of the lives of their average citizens, they don't really need the territory, rather the principle of having their way. In exchange of that, they might allow israeli citizens to own property thus remain there. (it is possible for foreign citizens to own property in Syria in the last few years)That would eliminate the complications of the jurisdictions, Syrian law would apply only partially to the israelis and they would have less influence in the local politics as well. The economy might use a bit of a boost on both sides. Politically the current regime is a far cry from a western democracy but it's still a lot better than the chaos in Iraq. Pakistan isn't any more of a open society and we get along with them well enough.
11. Syrian Crap
Brod ,   USA   (07.31.07)
Syria is working closely with its Jihadist Master-Iran. All this talk about peace is pure CRAP. It is an art of deception to fool Israel into giving them the Golan so that Syria and Iran can point their Rockets directly at Israel's towns, farms and villages in the valleys. Israel must not fall for their crap. Peace cannot be attained through threats of war. The fact is the Golan is part of Ancient Israel which Israel liberated from the Syrian occupiers in the War of 1967. See the Maps of Ancient Israel in "Holman QuickSource Bible Atlas With Charts And Biblical Reconstructions" [2005] published by Holman Bible Publishers, ISBN 10: 0-8054-9445-6, ISBN 13: 978-0-8054-9445-7.
12. In Hebrew comments guys from Golan say - only Arabs signed
Binyamin ,   Fort Collins, USA   (07.31.07)
13. Who's Golan Is It?
Civey ,   Brooklyn USA   (07.31.07)
Does anybody besides me remember that the entire Golan and much of Syria down to Damacus was PURCHASED by Baron de Rothchild from the Turks. The cowardly Tsionim refused to reclaim it during the Yom Kippur War, but does not change the fact that it is OURS.
14. 3, BAFFLED, let me explain it to you
Judah ,   Golan HEIGHTS,israel   (07.31.07)
Let me try and explain to you. There are 40,000 people living in the GOLAN. 20,000 are Jewish and 20,000 are Druze(Arabs but not Muslims). I can tell you that it would be hard to find even one Jew who would want to give up his/her home in the Golan. The Jews who want to give up the Golan mostly live in Tel Aviv and are usually Ashkenazi sabras(not Sephardic, Russian or Ethiopian immigrants). As for the Arabs that want to give away the Golan most of them come from the Arab Triangle and Nazareth. Very few of my Druze neighbours and friends want anything to do with Syria. They are afraid to speak out publically because if Olmert does give away the Golan then they would face prison terms in a Syrian jail.
15. Golan must be returned to Syria

16. #6
t.i ,   Israel   (07.31.07)
I mean we won't lose anything if we will sit and talk. why we need another war if we can reach the goal by diplomatics channels, look kim, believe I have a very wide knowledge on middle east affairs, Syria is the key for stabalizing all over the area, Syria has been ruling by secular regime, do think it's better to topple this regime by a war and then Syria would become a democracy, it's impossible, the syrias are'nt able to live under democracy because their society is religion and tribal.
17. Judah;#14 Thanks for that, also...
Mark ,   Georgia, USA   (07.31.07)
The Jews from Tel Aviv also own homes in the Golan? What is their logic for this idea? It seems nuts!! What was the approx. breakdown of Jews/Druze for this dangerous plan? Thank you in advance. Mark from Georgia
18. The Golan Heights BELONGS to Israel and not Syria!
ls ,   israel   (07.31.07)
19. #14 Judah in Golan - Thank you
Not Baffled now   (07.31.07)
I read other media to get a better idea of what is really happening in Israel (it's amazing the number of things that I'd miss otherwise), but this report here really got me very confused. Thank you for clarifying it. All the best to you in the Golan. No more expulsions! Never again!
20. Latest wimp movement
Steven ,   San Francisco   (07.31.07)
It's really pitiful to see such cowardice.
21. araB Golan residents call for talks with Syria
Abraham ,   Netanya   (07.31.07)
araB Golan residents call for talks with Syria - typical yNet drivel
22. YOU JEWS WILL NEVER LEARN !
Joel Miller ,   Montreal Canada   (07.31.07)
This is how its done! Syria must pay a price for the years of their terror against Israel, i say 1 meter of land for every day of hell rained on Israel. For Syria's involvement with Iran and the Mizbullah in their current plans of a total take over of Israel by way of false peace by piece, Syria will have to prove to Israel it really wants peace and not piece and not by backing its call for peace with clear and open threats of war if Israel doesn't give in to Syria's demands. Syria will have to give and not demand that they only receive. Ehud olmert's butt munching government has proved to the Arab world that Israel is weak with almost no self defense capabilities, therefore the Arab primitive mentality that is much like a dogs mentality is to attack the weak but... like dogs they will run as soon as they see that Israel is really strong and all they can do is blame Ehud Olmert for fooling them at the expense of Jewish young men's live lost in battle for a crap battle in Lebanon recently to cover up the criminal investigations against Olmert till he had a chance to bully his powers on those that would of had him stand trial for his criminal behavior. Nobody in the north of Israel is calling for squawks with Syria, this is a Kadima party fool the audience again into backing Ehud Olmert's give the Golan away for free game. Olmert is only good for abusing and killing Jews and stealing donated dollars from Us Jews abroad. Ever wonder how Jews dug their grave pits in Nazi Germany gas camps so easily without fighting back? Look at the Israeli public sleeping while Olmert kills Israel daily, its that simple. this is my opinion based on what i read on Ynet daily. WAKE UP VERY SOON ITS TOO LATE!
23. #17
(07.31.07)
what jodah meant when he said jewish sabras from tel aviv don't mind giving up the golan.......no they don't own homes on the golan. judah was sarcastic when he said tel avivians. most people in tel aviv don't seem to give a hoot about the dangers facing israel. life for them continued peacefully during the lebanon war and nothing touched their lifestyle while people were dying and displaced in the north. tel avivians are a selfish lot.
24. Alon Liel is the equivalent of Rudolph Kastner.
Ken Jurist   (07.31.07)
The headline is misleading, The Golan residents their talking about are Arabs. Alon Liel is the equivalent of Rudolph Kastner. He's making secret deals with the Devil. The Majority of Israelis reject Liel's surrender policy of giving away the Jewish Golan to terrorist Syria. The Golan was part of the Mandate borders of 1917. It was supposed to go to Israel. The Brits illegally gave the Golan to France in 1922. The French gave the Golan to Syria in 1946. The Golan was never part of Syria before 1946. Kahane said the Left would destroy Israel. Let me remind people. Liel opposed killing Yassin and Rantisi. Israel should trade Liel to Syria. Liel belives in Land for Terror camps. He will give away Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa if he has the chance. He's the dream of every Arab dictator and an Islamic Nazi appeaser.
25. So what that Golan was once Syrian??
Ray Briht ,   USA   (07.31.07)
2000 years of Jewish tragedy has destroyed Jewish minds. Every other country in the world is established to lands previously held by others. Syrians have not always controlled the Golan Heights either. Why should America not return Texas, California, New Mexico etc to Mexico? Why should not Checks return Sudetenland to Germans? The list is long, too long for this post. The point is that Israelis have defeated the Syrian aggressors. It is only natural that Syrians pay the price. If they really want peace, they can make peace. They can have peace without Golan if they really wish peace.
26. True as the Golan is essentially of no value
freedom ,   canada   (07.31.07)
to Syria, why make a big deal of it. Remember all the lands that changed hands in the second world war. Well, when you start a war and lose it, be prepared to pay reparations in the form of land. End of the message to the moronic left.
27. Shoah mentality
David   (07.31.07)
After 60 years some people have forgotten the mistakes of WWII: 1. Jews who thought, "If we cooperate with the Nazis, they won't hurt us." 2. Chamberlain who mistakenly thought he could negotiate with Hitler and Britain would be left unharmed. Syria and its evil partners Iran, Hezbullah and Hamas have been emboldened by the Gaza disengagement and by Olmert opening his mouth about returning the Golan. US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi also added fuel to the fire when she made a visit to Assad. Whether you like Netanyahu or not, he is absolutely correct when he says that if an enemy says they are out to destroy you, you better believe him. Assad, Ahmadinijad and friends are out for Israel's annihilation. Giving Assad the Golan is like giving Hitler Czechoslovakia. He won't stop until he destroys all of Israel, becomes the hero of the Arab world and restores Damascus to its former glory.
28. #6 t.i. doesn't sound very israeli to me
aaron ,   ra'anana   (07.31.07)
probably a lebanese... "all the west should embrace the baath regime policy's towards the radical Islam" t.i., you don't work for al manar by any chance, do you?
29. Are they nuts?????
OS ,   Israel   (07.31.07)
Are these guys out of their minds? What new voices from Syria - the ones that say israel has to negotiate without pre-conditions, but Syria has a precondition to negotiation that Israel give up the Golan? Those are negotiations??? Why don't we just shoot ourselves in the head and save the Syrians the trouble?
30. Jewish status under syrian law
Raphael ,   Netanya   (07.31.07)
Ever heard about the poor life of the Jews of Damas or Aleppo under fascist Baath system? Professional, housing, studying apartheid; no freedom of movement; constant political police harassment; daily antisemitic humiliations: Jews are free game for syrian hooligans, without any protection of justice, thanks to sharia. So how about the future status of 4rth generation Golan residents, if they choose not to be expelled from the land bought by Rothschild?
