31. To #' 3,4, 5 - Remember PM Rabin?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.09.07)
The words of Professor Hillel Weiss: “May your mother be bereaved, your wife be widowed, your children be orphaned and may you be struck down in the next war and any memory of you be erased," are boorish and childish and certainly unbecoming of an academic. His verbiage is certainly a blight on the reputation of Bar Ilan University, particularly in the light of the British Academic Boycott on that institution. #3 - Yosef - I am no "lefty" but I abhor the expressions of hatred of the extreme right. Please substantiate you allegations about Mrs. and Miss Olmert with facts and quotations. Freedom of speech and incitement are, in some cases, a very thin line apart. Rather err on the incitement side than have another Prime Minister, left, right or center, assassinated as a result of the right to "freedom of speech" of an academic or rabbi. Quite frankly, I do not know why some members of Meretz and the Arab Parties were not charged with treason or at least sedition for some of their statements during the Second Lebanon War. I suppose the excuse was also freedom of speech or was it Parliamentary Immunity. In either case, it was another example of disgusting behavior in the long list of disgraces that have plagued this country for decades.
32. Y'all 4get 041195? violent words bring violent actions

33. Cursing Professor
Laurence Tauber ,   New York, New York   (08.09.07)
As an attorney, while I do not condone the remarks, the Professors staement merely expressed his opinion without any danger or risk of harm. If Israel investigates and prosecutes individual's for merely expressing their views, even in strong terms, it cannot call itself a free society or one that adheres to democratic norms.
34. If the gay movement is accepted in Democracy why not curses!
Asher ,   NY, USA   (08.09.07)
35. Lee , a soldier has to obey
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.09.07)
That's so in the whole world , even in your galut USA . Try to learn history , regarding this period , and why it had to be done . Sadly to say , Begin was trying to fight on his own , with his ideology , not accepted by the majority of the provisional coucil . So the only one to blame for those deaths is Begin himself .
36. Dr Ruven BAr On
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.09.07)
If you hear such cursing very much , i not , i'm not coming in contact with such people , but i'm not a "doctor" . If this is said by "common" people against someone els who has hurt him or pushed him , no reason to prosecute . But by a professor attacking an official for carrying out an order it is not allowed . Don't you see the difference , doctor ?
37. Thought/Mind crimes.
World   (08.09.07)
Orwellian Israel Unless your an Arab or leftist of course!
38. #33 as an attorney you should have checked the laws...
(08.09.07)
of Israel before making your comments. the professor isn't being investigated for expressing his opinion he's being investigated for insulting an IDF officer. In Israel insuting an IDF officer, a police officer or any other public servant is a crime.
39. We must wish terrorists dead before they kill
Yonason Herschlag   (08.09.07)
It’s ridiculous to criticize someone for cursing someone viewed as an evil criminal. The debate should rather be on whether or not people agree with professor Weiss’ perception of people involved in forcibly evicting Jews from their homes as being evil criminals or not. And that is hinges on whether one believes the dwellers had a right to be there and whether or not the government has a right to evict them. This government attained power simply by murdering every individual and group Arab or Jewish who tried to attain control after the British left the void. Does that give them the right to decide to evict people from their homes? Might makes right?
40. Ridiculous
Avraham ,   NYC   (08.09.07)
This professor is to be probed for words, while a terrorist caught today in Shomron was let go by the IDF after it was determined he was on the list of the those paroled by Olmert (transporting bullets). No commentaries are needed, folks...
41. Jeffersonian Ideas and Democracy
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (08.10.07)
My latest blog get's into democracy and the Middle East. Free Speech and democracy is dead if one can not say what you want. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
42. Probe?
Dick ,   San Francisco   (08.10.07)
Who will do the probing of Professor Weiss? Will it be Dr. Yossi Beillin, I bet he loves probing other men. Will he wear rubber gloves? Inquiring minds want to know !
43. #38 Please explain why Dana Olmert is not in jail
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (08.10.07)
At a leftist rally, she called IDF officers "murderers." The "Machsom Watch" routinely insult IDF soldiers and interfere with them performing their lawful duties, why isn't this gang of traitors behind bars?
44. News
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.10.07)
Just heard in the news , that the dean of Bar ILan univ agrees with the police . Also a leftist antidemocrat maybe ?
45. Yonason
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.10.07)
You , anti Israeli satmar or something as this , has to shut up regarding Israeli politics . Go to your friends in Iran
46. #35, charles- You avoided my question
LEE ,   NY, USA   (08.10.07)
with the most bizarre twist of logic I've read in a while. You have made Begin and his followers (the victims) into the perpetrators of the shootings. We have a saying/question for such nonsense: Haratzachta ve'gam yarashta? (Did you murder and inherit?) And if I had to guess, your porbably think of yourself as a liberal advocate of democracy, right? If I am correct, if you are a supporter of democracy, how could you make a statement that if the majority opposes the minorty then the majority has a right to shoot to kill the minority? Not only does it seem that you argue for such an absurd position, you go further and say that the minority is to blame for their deaths. If you would be a German gentile 65 years ago, I can guess what role you'd porbably play. After all, an order is an order, right? Have you learned nothing from the holocaust? Do you even blame the Nazis for following orders? Charles, we are a Nation that is not meant to be like all the other Nations. If the whole world stands on one side, it is natural for us to stand on the other, like our forefather Avraham ha'Ivri (from the root me'ever- from the other side) History, that subject you encourage me to study, shows us that this was, is, and will always be so, and as much as we try to be like other nations, we won't succeed, because this is not our raison d'etre. So even if all the other nations (even here in the galut) follow all orders no matter what their nature, that does not mean that we must imitate that behavior. Our morals, our Torah, holds us to a higher standard wherein a Jew must NEVER lift up a finger toward his fellow Jew, even if it compromises the cohesiveness of an entire army. My question was and remains: Would you shoot to kill another Jew if you were ordered by the government in order to avoid dissidents in the army, such as Rabin did?
47. #46 LEE YOU'RE RIGHT, HYPOCRASY IS THE RULE OF THE DAY.
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.10.07)
As Rabin was more then willing to kill Jews on order, his cavalier attitude again showed itself when he allowed Arafat into the country and all the homocide killings started. He intimated that we were just a bunch of cry babies. As he, now we have people in authority that put "rule of law(their convinient laws)" above Jewish life and yes they would, without question shoot and kill Jews if given the order, provoked or unprovoked. Yet when the head of police commanded the Yassamnikim to "break their bones", was there an investigation? Insulting an officer is a crime? Sure, in dictatorships.
48. We're waiting Charles...
David   (08.10.07)
49. No answer Charles? Everyone is waiting.
freejay ,   Israel   (08.10.07)
50. freejay , i have answered already
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.10.07)
51. Lee , and other right wingers , learn history
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.10.07)
First of all you are not part of our nation , that honor is reserved to Israelis only . I did'nt say that Begin was the perpetrator , don't do as many of your friends who distord writings . He was to blame because he wanted to fight against the policy being set by the national council . And this antigovernement behaviour can't be tolerated , anywhere in the world . You have one governement , one policy and above all , ONE ARMY WITH ONE DIRECTION . In this difficult period for Israel's existence , Rabin z.l. , did what he had to do , and in the same circonstances ,i would have reacted the same way . If in time of war you begin to discuss every order , you can't win . Now also , soldiers who refused to obey orders were jailed . With reason . Soldiers have to obey democratically elected governements . We are not talking about dictatures here .
52. Y'all talk about free speech, freedom of the press....
(08.10.07)
and yadda, yadda, yadda, but we must all remember Israel does NOT have a constitution or a bill of rights! Israel is NOT America! Wake up and smell the falafel already!
53. Lee , and nazi germany
charles ,   petach tikva   (08.10.07)
Althought it is not related to our discussion , and to this article , i will answer you . First of all , i'm not disculping them , Jews , and my family have suffered enough from this evil . I have to add this because many of your kind like to distord my writings , and accuse me of thinkings that are not mine . Now Lee , imagine you are a boy of , lets say , 9 years old in 1933 . During 8 years you are brainwashed . How will you react in 1941 when ordered to assassinate people ? I know your answer , you would have obeyed . Don't say no . Do you know that children even betrayed their parents for anti nazi talkings at home ? But this was a dictatorship , not a democracy , a fragile one , a democracy that could not allow anybody to fight her from the inside . There were more than enough enemies around her .
