31. I support Hillel Weiss. What is wrong with our enemies?
Steve ,   US   (08.18.07)
Many of the people who are angry at Professor Weiss --- people in university, media, etc. --- perhaps many of these do not believe in God to begin with. For those of us that do believe in God, if Professor Weiss was out of line then God will ignore him. May God's will be done. If however the professor was right to rebuke a military officer; if our army is wrong to expel Jews from their homes, wrong to expel innocent Jewish families from our land, why shouldn't I pray that the Almighty will judge this wrong accordingly? I say our army and our IDF officers, just like German officers and German soldiers, are wrong to obey immoral orders. They should be warned by those of us who know right from wrong. For me, it is evil expelling Jews from their homes. I read a piece on another Israel news site a couple of days back, "Engaging the disengagers." This was all about how IDF soldiers were brainwashed by psychologists to expel Jews like robots from their homes in Gush Katif and northern Samaria. It was really a sick piece. Israel is becoming a very sick nation. "Sicko!" Thank God for men like Professor Weiss who have a heart and a conscience.
32. What does "Mapainic" mean? Isn't in my Alkali
Karen R ,   USA   (08.18.07)
This is a neologism the meaning of which I don't know, can't find, and can't quite figure out. Hasn't Mapai been gone a long time? Is it the Israeli equivalent of McCarthyism's "communist"? Or what?
33. #29 I am or is it I was once?
Josh   (08.18.07)
He is dead, is he not. Choose life or choose death. So those who follow a dead man are: a) Choosing Life b) choosing death If you do Torah it is said you choose life. Back to Torah Pashoot
34. # 29 like Avrohom # 20
Sagi ,   Israel   (08.18.07)
Your incoherent ranting means nothing, is incomprehensible, and once again only proves the points I raised in # 6. At least # 23 wrote sensible words which were given to interpretation and understanding. Like Avrohom you are trapped in your own paradigmatic world, enslaved with a yoke around your neck with no ability to break the bounderies of that world. I feel sorry for you.
35. #6 SAGI...??? Not "sage".
EGW ,   vancouver canada   (08.19.07)
SAGI- It's OBVIOUS that you've NOT assimilated even a little scrap of the real facts about Pollard. I'm sure that you, like all of us, has read HUNDREDS of articles detailing the actual FACTS of the Pollard matter. YET, you STILL ignore the fact, YES ,THE FACT, that NOBODY says that Pollard didn't deserve and even himself accept, his due punishment. The FACTS are that Israel betrayed him, also that his punishment merited NO MORE than 2-4 years imprisonment, with many (all from opponent countries) getting out in a matter of months, or having their sentences suspended. In fact, I can't recall ANYONE else who has been convicted in the US courts for spying for a FRIENDLY nation. THEREFORE Sagi, the complaint is about the vindictive, malicious nature of the imprisonment, with the first 7-8 years in solitary confinement etc.etc. you know the rest...........Maybe??
36. # 35 Response
Sagi ,   Israel   (08.19.07)
Please look at my closing statement in # 6. I stated that he was betrayed. I stated by whom he was betrayed. He was betrayed by this man who was acting in an official capacity and therefor he was betrayed by Israel. This man today is a member of Parliament, which is, in my opinion, outrageous. I agree that the punishment does not fit the crime, but I still maintain that we must not interfere with the due process of law in another country. Spying on an enemy is understandable because you do not trust him. Spying on a friend is not only immoral, it is despicable, especially when that friend has done so much for you.
38. #37 Insightful - on what an idiot
Josh   (08.19.07)
...might think. So many people receiving a blindside knock in the head from the curses of G-d that they cant help sharing how misrable they are and that their reasoning refuses to see it is their own fault. Instaed they show anger to whatever they can. Are you a Christian or a Muslim?
39. There is an excellent column about this on the J. Post
Canadian Otter   (08.19.07)
I don't agree with the way columnist Sarah Honig regards Professor Weiss at all. I think he reacted emotionally to the expulsion of his daughter's family, and it was understandable. However, Sarah Honig makes some very interesting observations. "The teaching tenures of those who portray renascent Jewish sovereignty as racist are safeguarded. Only the most vehement post-Zionist excesses are indulged. Different strokes for different universities and different professors. "But this isn't exclusively academia's affliction. Israel's chronically amnesiac citizenry managed to totally overlook Lt.-Cmdr. Niso Shaham's recent promotion to the post of Jerusalem District deputy police chief. "During the pre-disengagement mass rally in Kfar Maimon, then-Negev District commander Shaham affected his most macho pose for the TV crew that filmed him. "And so hectored Niso for all to hear: "I want arrests and I tell you to use water-cannons unconditionally. Don't call me. Go for the water-cannons. Shit upon them," - the protesters. "They should burn. Don't reassess - use water-cannons and clubs. Hit them hard on the lower parts of the body. Work as you know how. I'm an expert in handling these haredim." (And the quote gets much, much worse. Not printable.) http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?apage=1&cid=1186557466184&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull It is very clear that it is not what people say, but who they are and what political ideas they hold, that determines whether they should be punished or promoted.
40. # 36, SAGI
EGW ,   vancouver canada   (08.19.07)
SAGI- Yes, perfectly true, it should be "due process of law", which was NOT observed. If it had been, Pollard would have been free for 20 years already. As for "spying on a friend" etc, yes, you are right, (also remember that Great Nations don't have "friends" , only "interests") but in certain circumstances it is not only permissable but obligatory, w hen that "friend" shows himself by his actions, (or lack of them) to be NO FRIEND. Pollard saw, that in this case, America was NOT acting as a friend, and decided to remedy the matter. This warned ISRAEL- meaning millions of Jews- about Arab potential weapons of mass destruction. Please see the point. Pollard was indicted on only ONE charge, that of "passing classified information to an ally". He had NO trial. His plea bargain agreement was immediately violated by the US Government as Weinberger influenced the judge. Then, he was allowed only 10 days to appeal. He lost 2-1. The one judge said he should have been freed. His later HABEUS CORPUS application was denied on the specious argument of Statute of Limitations expiry or some such. Again.... If you still don't get the point, you shouldn't be allowed out by yourself.
41. What's wrong with Curseing?
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (08.19.07)
Free Speech isn't it or has Israeli society degrated to a point you don't have freedom of speech. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/

44. Minister Liberman has roundly condemned Weiss
Sally Forth ,   Jerusalem   (08.19.07)
This morning on a radio program Minister Liberman roundly and soundly condemned Weiss. Liberman said that Weiss is not a religious authority, nor is he a political leader and that he Weiss does NOT have the right to condemn, curse or otherwise comment on the activities of the IDF or its officers. Liberman unequivocally stated that Weiss was completely and totally out of line and should fully apologize. Ok all you right wing talk backers let's see you strike down Liberman's position. After all Mr. Liberman is a member of the current Israeli government and his right wing political position and party affliation is above question.
