1. I can't wait for the feedbacks on this one!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (09.30.07)
Maybe you would have told the Civil Rights movement to be 'low key' as well!!
2. A woman wrote this
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.30.07)
It's "too cute." Not guy writing.
3. I'll make you a deal, Assaf
Sharon ,   San Francisco   (09.30.07)
If you will try to stop opinionated rabbis from getting hysterical at the mere notion of a woman looking at Gemara, I will do my best to get all the other opinionated women to wear hats with no barbed wire on them.
4. Kyle, what in the world is 'guy writing?'
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (09.30.07)
Westerns? Detective stories? Police stories? Murder? There are plenty of good women writers who have written about these things as well! Get out of your little box, please.
5. Is Mr. Grummy offended today?
Mea   (09.30.07)
ahh, poor Mr. Grumpy can't tolerate the shrill voice and actions of females. Him's fed up--enough to rip a piece off and deliver it to Ynet. Poor baby. Stuck at home with the children he fathered and now has to help care for. He probably has to do dishes and laundry to. Imagine the nerve of a partner insisting on dedicating part of her attention to her own interests and beliefs. It's almost as if she expects him to be a wife! Maybe he should form a group and raise some Cain about this horrid condition! They could even have a motto: Nobody's Maid!, Nobody's Slave! Free this poor man today from the oppression and strife his selfish independent wife has subjected him to! what a maroon....
6. So easy for you
vered ,   israel   (09.30.07)
I think most of women are quiet, and we wait and wait for some wonderful man to notice how smart we are and what a good job we are doing, and to be a little grateful when we do 150% more than our male counterparts. While all of us wishful thinkers toil away, we are very grateful for the obnoxious, publicly opinionated women who exaggerate and make a lot of noise, because we wouldn't be able to move one inch forward without those courageous gals, especially when there are so many men willing to count our imperfections everyday.
7. Haha!
S ,   Los Angeles   (09.30.07)
I am a woman, but I found this article to be hilarious. It is so true!
8. Unoriginal attempt to cover embarrassment
Israel   (09.30.07)
not limited to gender issues. How many good employees have been brushed off by apathetic, incompetent, and therefore threatened managers using the line "it was HOW you gave your advice that made me not take it"? The rest of us can say male religious groups are too violent - in this case not an opinion, but rather a fact. Are you willing to make a trade, Mr. Wohl, or is that too productive a step for you?
9. Ladies,
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.30.07)
I have submitted this article to the world's philosophical experts. After careful studies, they have rendered a unanimous decision as to its meaning and this is it: "The guys want to watch football/soccer/baseball/tennis/car racing, while filling the airwaves with unspeakable expletives and odors, without having to pretend to pay attention to anything you may say and without having to worry about the kids' putting the cat into the micro, the bird down the toilet or slopping spaghetti sauce all over the white carpet." Ladies, take advantage of the situation, hijack that Platinum Amex between the expletives and odors and let's all go shopping!!!
10. M. Hartley: you rock!
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (09.30.07)
11. As usual
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (09.30.07)
M. Hartley put a smile on my face! {:>)
12. It's meant to be funny
jewish mother ,   jerusalem   (09.30.07)
Lighten up! anyone offended by this article is obviously the kind of woman who it writes about. I am an orthodox woman and a feminist and i thought the article raised some valid points while giving us a good laugh. Get on and learn Gemara, but stop taking yourselves so seriously. All the heroines of the Tanach that feminists praise did their great deeds quietly.
13. Opinionated
Jewish Grandma ,   Jerusalem   (09.30.07)
Yes Sir, here we are Mr Whol, us opinionated women we are here to stay. I have daughters who have kept their maiden name and grandaughters that like to daven and we are even orthodox. I guess you just have to learn to love us, don't worry you will get used to it, worse things have happened in Jewish history and these women may even bring the Mashiach! Hag Sameach We love you anyway
14. #4 Guy writing
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.30.07)
Guy writing is "South Park," WEB Griffin, and "Lord of the Rings." Chick writing is "Harry Potter," "The Red Tent," and Oprah's Book Club selections. Not saying that one is better than the other, but that they are different.
15. Actually,
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.30.07)
Mr. Wohl doesn't understand women, at all. As long as we are loud, nag and complain, he knows where we stand. He had best watch out for those ominous silences that hang in the air thick enough to cut with a knife. Those are usually the precursors to BIG battles. It doesn't matter how long it takes, but sooner or later we'll get that "What's wrong with you?" and all hell will break loose, liberally sprinkled with, "since you asked." Add to that the frustrations of a maxed-out Amex and, heaven help you, a bout of PMS, and hell's fury pales by comparison.
16. you women just dont get it!
elchonon ,   chevron   (10.01.07)
Firstly its amazing how women bash guys and call em sexist and pigs yet when I mention that women are different they scream.. they scream that they are equal yet when given equal responsobility they go crying. Men and women are equal yet hold 2 very different roles. A child needs his mother for on thing and his father for another. Society's downbreaking is caused by this whole modern mishagas! You expect a child to run to his father to cry in his pants and you expect a mother to discipline a child properly? Look I am called a settler so I dont mind or care to be called a sexist. But alas thats not the case, stop with the cross dressing crap and assume your correct roles! Or dont expect us to offer a ounce of pity when you hurt yourself or cry.. men dont cry and women are equal no? I am single, we dont need women any more than you need men.
17. but we do need each other
marilyn   (10.01.07)
For with out both there would be no offspring. Agree that there are different roles and responsibilities. But I have found that in accepting my role as wife and mother, in the general public and militant women carry some responsibility here. my role is not valued. We often hear people say " Do you work' Because mothering does not generate an income we are held as being of 'no' value. So some women are loud , lets not be prejudice so are some men. Just as an after thought Jesus was the only person born of a woman where the man was unnecessary
18. #16 So when Mordechai told ESTHER she needed to save theJews

19. Well-behaved women rarely make history...
Maidel ,   NY   (10.01.07)
...as a well-known bumper sticker in the States reads. I sincerely hope that the author of this opinion piece meant for it to be "tongue-in-cheek", but somehow I doubt it.
20. Case of Opinioned Women

22. ASAF: A VERY BITTER MAN
SETTHERECORDSTRAIGHT   (10.01.07)
WHO OBVIOUSLY HAS A HUGE GRUDGE AGAINST SOME WOMAN OUT THERE. CLEARLY HE DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO THAN TO 'BITCH' ON YNET. AMAZING, THE TRASH YNET PRINTS.
23. Who is this loser?
Susan ,   Israel   (10.01.07)
and why does YNet think he's worthy of being a writer?
24. Opinionated Women
Jane Addams ,   USA   (10.01.07)
Religious men say women must be in their proper place. They assign us that place, they don't let us do it ourselves, nir will they allow us a voice in that decision. They will not allow that we have ahead to thnk and aheart to feel and a soul to aspire. That is the way we are liked. You degrade us, then ask why we are degraded, you shut our mouths then ask why we don't speak.. You want us only to be mothers of large families yet we are much more...
25. comment
fiona kaufman ,   israel   (10.01.07)
You know, it is men like you, I think, that make women have to make a lot of noise...men like you, who write ridiculous articles which really just mean"get back to the ironing and shut up," that make women have to participate in all these panels and workshops. I am not a religious woman, but feel in their world, their struggle to be heard would be even more difficult. My comment to you, sir, is take the kids out yourself and keep your archaic nonsense to yourself....it is just embarrassing to have an article like this written in a newspaper of high repute.. Shame on you assaf..
26. Talmoed
linda   (10.01.07)
I Don't know about other women, but I dot stydy the talmoed and gemara and did it with men together and it was in amsterdam in the seminar. The man who showed me and was my teacher is a rabbi today. And not reform!! Did not told the news, dit not even told nothing, did it and that was it! It is ok for women to learn talmoed and men who say different are telling you lies. When do men do things and do not tell about it? Yeah sure, they tell even when they had sex , give me a brake! Who wrote this? Eli Yatzpan? no, maybe Dudu topaz, the biggest idiot who knowes all about women. (NOT)
27. It was OK
Shai ,   IL   (10.01.07)
I understood the point he was making. It's that with the volume so loud, it's hard to hear what's being said. I see no point in criticizing him as some of you have. I also understand the feminists. If everybody were more flexible, we'd all be able to find our place without having to raise the volume. Unfortunately, konoim on both sides have raised the volume - I don't think you can only blame this on feminists. Fobbing off the "feminist" stance as "modern meshugas" is rediculous, as though what we have today is exactly what we had 3000 years ago. Every age has its "modernism". Even the word "feminist" is rediculous. Feminists are simply people who have found allies in their individual efforts to be respected as complete human beings. I think that as this article states, some go too far and lose the message along the way. It seems to me that women who wish to tie into Judaism should be able to do so however they wish. That said, I don't see why they wish to do so through Talmud, talitot, tfillin, etc. Davka, these are products of a male rabbinically led society, and I'd expect that women with the interests these women express could invent new forms of Jewishness that are feminine, that they can tie into. Jews should encourage Jews to find fulfillment in Judaism rather than elsewhere. It happens that many of the current Jewish "means" are tfillin and so on, but it doesn't have to be so. I wish that these women would expand the field with their creativity rather than behave as if only the "manly" ways are legitimate. That they put on tfillin and tallitot and learn Gmarah, traditionally the way that men show their religous fervor, is what sometimes causes men to think that they are being exhibitionists. It's just not necessary to do that and be spiritual persons. I'd argue that Gmarah, tfillin and tallitot don't do much for a lot of men, too. For example, I think that the men's lack of focus on mussar studies or midrash or tanach is an excellent place for women to pick up the slack and make their contributions and find meaning, to the benefit of all Jews. Truth? To all you men who disparage these women, a woman with opinions is somebody at least who can be pleased. She can measure progress, she has expectations, she makes them known, and she has purpose in life. Woe to the man whose partner doesn't have the depth to want anything other than what her husband wants. I'd much rather a woman with the joie de viv of these feminists.
28. hoooo, girls
Westerner ,   Tel Aviv   (10.01.07)
No need to get upset. The guyus here are just afraid of modern times and are getting a bit hysterical about it. It is like it was in the modern (western) world 20 years ago: Women are asking for their share of the cake and the men are getting flashy, seeing the end of the world at hand. Keep up the good work and after another couple of years when these people finally decide to get out of their 17th century bathrobe-style, they probably will also adopt 21st century thinking.

M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (10.01.07)
Ok, I'll be serious. You are correct up to a point. The trouble starts, when something happens to the husband, and a woman finds herself alone. In most countries, if not by backwards laws then by the attitude of some men, a woman is at a disadvantage for the very reason of having mostly functioned in a supportive role to her husband. For example: After my husband died, the prices for what we had normally contracted out doubled. Changing a lock went from $25 to $50, replacing a faucet from $50 to $100, etc. There was no raging inflation and it made me so angry, I bought locks, faucets, light fixtures, ceiling fans and even dragged home a toilet. I disassembled and re-assembled them so many times I can now install those things in my sleep, if I have to. I have a tool box, the contents of which would be the envy of a lot of men. Does that mean I was dying my whole life to play plumber and/or electrician? Not hardly. It makes a mess of my fingernails. But I wasn't going to hold still and have somebody take advantage of the fact that I was "older" - ok old as dirt - and no longer had a husband. It didn't take the maintenance contractor very long to figure out that he could go back to being reasonable or no longer get work from me. Car repair people tried to pull even worse stunts. I've been sold cheap tires with no warranties when I had asked and paid for tires with 75,000 mile warranties. I've been told that I had - are you ready for this one?- a leak from the differential onto the manifold, a life-threatening situation!!, the cost for the repair of which would only be $920, when the "leak" I was shown was in fact overflow from the coolant tank which I happened to recognize by the greenish color of the anti-freeze. Trust me, I'd rather go through life laughing than having to blow my top and cuss like a sailor to be taken seriously. Maybe sometimes we don't express it in the language of men, but in instances as those above we certainly do want to be treated as equals. Another, even more important area, is what's in one's head. I will not play dumb to make someone else feel good. If my smarts bother somebody, that's their problem. Regardless of the way some people would like for things to be, it’s a fact of life that some women have better brains/educations than some men, something they shouldn’t have to hide as if it were a character flaw or for which they should be expected to make excuses. The key phrase and a dead give-away in your tb is "... and assume your correct role." Who, exactly, determines what that role is? Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, the guy next door or whoever’s in charge of the check book? I have to live with what I am; not based on what somebody else thinks I should be. I didn't marry my husband, because I "needed" him. I married him, because I loved him, admired and respected his decency, enjoyed his humor and couldn't imagine my life without him. Well, guess what! He's gone and, like it or lump it, I just have to get along without him. I wouldn’t honor his memory if I were to sit around and whine “poor, li’l ol’ me” and wimp out. Even if only in my dreams and figuratively, he’d kick my rear all over the place for that act. As for cross-dressing, well, one man’s fig leaf is another man's long dress is another man's burqa is another man's pair of jeans and halter top. Sorry, but I look like a polar bear when it's 20 degrees F and if I'm puttering in my garden half-naked, you can bet that it's hot as blazes. I won’t put my neighbors through the agony, but I could walk up the street in a thong and pasties, and though they would go into hysterics at my funky outfit, it wouldn't change who or what I am one iota; only their perception of me. God made males and females to complement each other; not to have one lord it over the other. I won’t think less of you for crying now and then, and if I cry, I'll gladly take a hug. How’s that?
