charles ,   petach tikva   (11.21.07)
not seen so much at most of Shabbat tables [ china , true , not todays very cheap stuff ] Are you sure that for reform Shabbat is not Shabbat ? Can't they have the same table ? even if they go by car to their "synagogue" ?
62. BUSH , you are not a Rabbi with a great name
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.21.07)
Your opinion , exept maybe here , nobody reads or listen to it , why should someone ask you to apologise ?
63. It is a sad day that it comes to this.
Josh   (11.21.07)
The movements should acknowledge the sin of joining the ranks of pagans and sinners. Once more they should repent their sin. If the reform, conservative. modern orthodox or orthodox movement leaders are allowing sin into regular practice at any of their synagogues, the entire movement of good Jews should replace these leaders with G-d fearing/G-d loving men and women. Men who embrace the real Torah as Moses gave it. Jews should stand in one voice and break away from following a one way train to the bottom. Anything that violates Torah should be abandon. This includes pagan ideas (calendars/incantations/objects/holidays), chet additions, and over complexities that cause true Torah to be lost in communication and eductaion. Jews must be allies with G-d and if they betray that loyalty by entering a place of pagan worship, they are guilty of taking a big wiff of the smell of hell. You shall not eat from that tree. It is not the tree of life and its fruit dangles lifeless before your eyes being called the first begotten son, get a clue! The first begotten son is you Israel. They should leave before they are seduced to swallow it down or worse driven away by Hashem and touched in the head so that they are made distant for their betrayal. Chose death? Never! Return! The Rabis need not say a word more than what is already provided in Torah. These break-away movements that practice sin are guilty of their sin. "Devareem 12:30 ...and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying: 'How used these nations to serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the Hasehm thy God; for every abomination to the Hashem, which He hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods ' " Devareem 13:7 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, that is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying: 'Let us go and serve other gods,' which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers (8) of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him; Note: It doesn't matter where in the world the Jews are, the rule is the same "from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth" (This means diaspora and vacationing Jews too). Do NOT inquire!!!! Do not help them with their symbolic eating or say amen to their seemingly innocent passages. Do not walk through their temples paying them respect. It is a mortal issue of chose life or chose death. All Jews must refrain from sin or being seduced by the hoars of the religion who seek to modernize it by adding things they know are sin. Whether it is false g-d, feminizing the gender of G-d, listening to the statements and prophecies of the false prophet, gay marriages, or pork sandwiches. Do not heed them, they mock G-d and his rules for their own personal pleasure and fragile self esteem in their eyes. To gain acceptance by the pagans and the so called hip crowd. A generation of reversal, who look at a man of G-d and see evil and who look a a “cool” sinner with tattoos that have evil themes while smoking cancer sticks and see a desirable good. What do they think their end will be? By the way the pork sandwiches is one of the last things I think they will do because they are concerned with themselves and what they take into their body more than they care about love for G-d. I have news, health and long life is not what pork or cheeseburgers you eat, it is what G-d gives you. People like this are Mockers and the first ones to claim they were given Torah because they deserve it! Return!
64. A plague on all your houses
Manni ,   Leeds UK   (11.21.07)
All this proves is no matter whether Christian, Moslem or Jew, if you a fundamentalist you are all the same. You have to rubbish everyone else as you can not cope with another view and are devoid of any compassion. What is more is had this been a statement by an Imam everyone would had cried anti-Semitism. This is history repeating itself and will lead to the loss of Israel.

MARK ,   LISBON, PORTUGAL   (11.21.07)
The Rav cursed no one. Mention of the shtetle is silly... the Rav is sephardi. The Rav's somewhat dramatic phase reflects the position of orthodox Judaism regarding the Reform and Conservative movements. These movements and their leaders put a stumbling block before the blind and cause many Jews to commit serious averot and, particularly outside of Israel, are stepping stones away from Judaism on the path to assimilation. When a Jew intentionally abandons the way of the Torah he is indeed on his way to Gehinnom. Check out the Rambam on Perek Chelek.

JG   (11.21.07)
Speaking of playing dumb, did you totally miss the point or are you only choosing to see what you want to? You mention things like dress, which you claim are flexible (though you can get stoned for making the wrong choice in some Jerusalem neighborhoods) while totally ignoring the issues of siding with the Iranians or meddling in politics. You can keep your koolaid.

To #54, Hell made up   (11.21.07)
Thank you for the clarification, Maidel. I accept what you wrote. My point remains the same, though, that this concept of "hell" as a place of punishment after death is foreign to Judaism and not found in the Torah.
68. TO #41: THANK YOU 4 YOUR POST
SETTHERECORDSTRAIGHT   (11.21.07)
SO TRUE, SO TRUE, SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
69. #2 I agree with you ....This is ridiculous ....
rachel ,   usa   (11.21.07)
70. Agreed Charles I am no Rabbi just a plain layman
BUSH ,   USA   (11.21.07)
who appreciates being a Jew and striving to better my character everyday of my life. I am sure we can both agree that his words were not meant to harm anyone nor was he calling for a civil war. His words were that he cannot and would not pass through a reformed shul to reach the orthodox shul. It is spiritually unhealthy is another way of saying it smells of hell. Would you pass through the hallway of a mosque to get to your shul. I hardly doubt it. Sooner or later your mind would be damaged with confusion. Reformed is no different instead of changing themselves for G-d they changed G-d to accept who they are. Just as there is one G-d (whether you believe it or not) and one Torah for the Jews, one Israel for the Jews, one prime minister, one defense minister and one army that obeys one nation so too there is only one religion in Judaism not 2 or 3. In the army you have many types of people like in Jewish orthodoxy you have the navy, the airforce, the cooks and even the janitors just like we have Ashkenaz Sepharadim Chasidim etc. etc working or learning but everyone obeys to the same one G-d and Torah. Nobody changed it or will ever change it. If in Israel a group of soldiers today would walk away (like reformed did) and make their own chief of staff and Defense Minister (like reformed did)then you would probably say they are better off not serving (be a secular Jew) but now they are causing a civil war (not the Rabbi) and weakening our one nation to 2. You would probably say worst than the Rabbi that just said the smell of Hell.
71. Rabbis like this are killing, not promoting Judaism
Mark ,   Atlanta USA   (11.21.07)
"Torah Giants" like this meshuganeh, are what`s killing Judaism in Israel. Their extremism is the reason most secular Israelis won`t go near the stench of Charedi Israeli synagogues, or why they run to Cyprus to get married -- to avoid having ANYTHING to do with these clowns in the rabbanut. These extremist rabbis do more damage to Judaism that anything they ever accuse the Conservatives of. Their patent nonsensical deviation from a classical evolving and historical Judaism is the real shanda... Perhaps they want to further deny the development of Judaism and go back to stoning Shabbas violators as called for in the Torah as well?
72. Charles # 61
BUSH ,   USA   (11.21.07)
I might have over exagerrated for Israelis but I don't think so. Are you sure that for reform Shabbat is not Shabbat ? Can't they have the same table? Of course they could even a Non Jew can setup his table like that but the question is if it has the same quality with singing and Torah discussions and even just a nice pleasant talk or is everyone eating quickly like a regular Tuesday night meal and leaving to read the news or play video games even if they go by car to their "synagogue" ? Would you SETUP A PROFESSINAL BUSINESS MEETING with a suit and tie at a kids park or at a sports stadium. Is the business meeting a meeting while the game is being played. I don't think it would be a very good meeting. How can you ask if Shabbat is still Shabbat if you drive. Is a day of rest from work still a day of rest from work if you are working?
73. Mark you sound very naive and ignorant to Judaism
BUSH ,   USA   (11.21.07)
Not one Torah Rabbi ever in history said any Jewish law that was not based on the Torah itself. One is not allowed to listen to even the Grand Rabbi if he says to eat pig or intermarry. Your problems and all the seculars you mentioned problems are not at the Rabbis neither do they get offended by your words because they are all based on something above them. No Rabbi is greater than the Torah. Every point of Jewish law was brought to us through Moshe or Moses and noone may argue. Rabbis preserve it not add on to it. Your anger should be at the ones who damage the Torah by saying they are better than it and may change it to befit them or their gay son. Regarding stoning of Shabbat violaters only proves your ignorance which is causing you all this hatred. If you were educated you would understand that even if Israel gets a religious PM they cannot add on to the Torah that states Capitol punishment or punishment by death stopped about 70 yrs before the second temple destruction. You would also know that even at that time it would be very hard for a court to kill such a person because there would have to be 2 witnesses that warned him beforehand not to violate and they would have to see it as well. The scenario was hard to find because most Jews do not sin out of spite but rather because they are tempted It also says a court that killed more than one person in 70 years was considered a murderous court. Sorry you think Judaism is like Islam but again this all proves your ignorance

i had once a discussion with a liberal [= approx reform ] He said to me that he prefered that his people came by car to the synagogue on Shabbat , instead of not coming at all and loose any connection with Judaism , or a certain diluted form of Judaism [ it was in Paris ] I think that for this he was right . When i told him that i can't get married by him , because he was not orthodox , he asked me if my wife would wear a sheitl . No i said , but more to avoid any problems with the Orthodox Rabbanut in my town , who could think that my wife was not Jewish [ liberal = reform = conversion full speed = not recognised by Orthodox = suspicion ] So we were married by a true Orthodox Rabbi . I had prefered that this Rabbi , instead of making this comment , had neglected them , it brings nothing , only some sinat chinam or not nice talks . When you say something it has not to be : in de luft geret , talk only to talk , you have to think about the consequences your words can have , and ask yourself , is it worth it ? What will we earn by those words ? certainly when you are a Rabbi with this name , and not an ordinary person . I have some difficulties in expressing my ideas in English , it would be much easier for me in French .
75. The stink of hell? He should know!!!!
Jewish CANADIAN ,   Toronto   (11.21.07)
The stink of hatred. Of intolerance, racism and misogyny,Of living off the toil and sacrifice of honest, decent people,Of ignorance and immorality, The stink of a hatred so vast that it encompasses 99.99 % of all humanity, The stink of hell? This rabbi knows it well, He reeks of it.
76. Charles
Ephraim ,   Diaspora   (11.22.07)
Ok Charles, I will honor your belief and refrain from calling you brother, although I may think otherwise in my heart. I agree with you that if a man is in the position of spriitual leadership as this Rabbi is, he should choose his words carefully and not offend others. There are better ways to express your disapproval of another mans doctrine than what this Rabbi was quoted as saying. My point was that for others to speak evil of the Rabbi is equally evil. I will pray for him. Shalom Aleikhem Charles
77. Re #29 "I challenge anyone to find me the Hebrew eq"
Moses Benatar ,   LA, USA   (11.22.07)
The word is derived from the Hebrew Gêhinnôm. It is mentioned in the Tanakh several places, notably 2 Chronicles 28:3; 33:6; 2 Kings 23:10; Jeremiah 7:31; 19:2-6; 32:35 and Jeremiah (2:23).
78. Conservatives for religous coercion
Mordechai   (11.22.07)
The conservative movement is trying to use the power of the state,by having a court fine Rabbi E in a lawsuit for criticizing the conservative movement. This is the essence of religous coercion punishing someone for expressing religous beliefs one does not like
79. He needs to know what Rabbi Kaduri had to say
Karl ,   USA   (11.22.07)
Written Torah only, Ephraim redeemed by Messiah Yeshua, all Israel needs the covering bread of heaven, Yeshua's flesh and blood. http://home.insightbb.com/~teachingyeshua/index.htm
80. Reform Judaism is Saving Extinction of Jews in Diaspora
semsem ,   New York, USA   (11.22.07)
If Reform Judaism did not exist, most Jews in the USA would no longer attend synagogue. We would become extinct much more quicker.
81. Some Orthodox as bad as Iranian Mullahs
Laila ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.22.07)
Some of these Orthodox Rabbis are no different than the Iranian Mullahs.
82. Jewish [ ? ] canadian , champion of hate
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.22.07)
Regarding hate and everything you wrote , my advice : look at your mirror and say : I'm the champion of all this .
83. The Rav Is Not Alone.
David ,   Israel   (11.22.07)
Rav Soloveitchik referred to the conservative movement (and their reform cousins) as "karaites" and issued a takana that you couldn't enter a conservative synagogue even to fufill a mitzbah (in his case: shofar). He was right. Jewish dignity comes from Torah, not from running to pretend to be goyim and denial of what we are: God's people bound by his laws.
84. #83 David
Ephraim ,   Diaspora   (11.22.07)
David, His Torah is not binding, it is freeing. It contains blessings and curses. It is our choice which we will participate in. He has released us from the curses through the sacrifice of the One Holy Lamb. Yeshua HaMoshiach who lives at the right hand of the Father and who will return soon as Moshiach Yeshua benDavid!
85. Ephraim
charles ,   petach tikva   (11.22.07)
Please , don't come with YOUR messias . The Torah is OURS , Jewish scholars know the Torah better than you can imagine , and interpret it certainly not in a distorted way .
86. Charles
Ephraim ,   Diaspora   (11.22.07)
Sorry to disappoint you Charles but I take my directions from a much Higher Source. The Torah is also mine. I will obey the Father rather than men. He tells me to proclaim Moshiach so I will proclaim Him. Shalom Rav! my friend.
87. Sinat chinam
Schvach   (11.22.07)
'Every Jew is precious', a Chabad rabbi once taught me. How right he was! I don't like the Conservative Movement; I've blogged about my disagreements with them, but I've never cursed them out. Without Ahavas Yisroel, we have no future.
88. #77 your references were not to hell
Wendy in Chicago   (11.22.07)
#77 Moses Benatar, the verses you quote were the earthly, physical name of the places where the Israelites sinned, "ben Hinnon". This in no way intimates that "Gehinom" is a place where you go for punishment after death. This name was applied to the gentile concept.
89. Where did he call for a civil war? What an invention.
Velvel ,   Silver Spring, US   (12.02.07)
Someone point to me where he called for a civil war. What a blatant over-reaction from the "masorti" camp. And to #80 saying that Reform is saving Diaspora Jewry by keeping them in the synagogue? LOL, you have no clue what you are talking about, Reform has been encouraging intermarriage for years and we are losing thousands of Jews to it per year, to the point that now Reform considers non-halachic Jews to actually be Jews when they aren't, or they'd have no attendance at their so-called synagogues. What synagogue is reform keeping Jews in, the synagogue of "love myself and fellow man but don't ask me about G-d or mention Him" ? That's not a synagogue, it's not Judaism, it's a mock Protestantism/Social Action Network minus the Yashka.
90. Ashamed of Being Sephardi
Dave ,   Toronto, CANADA.   (12.05.07)
When I read comments like this from Rav Eliyahu, I am ashamed of being Sephardi. The Sephardic rabbonim of the past would never have said this. They would have said "we absolutely disagree with the Reform and Conservative movements, and we are prepared to meet with any of them at any time to persuade them by reasoned argument that they should return to traditional Judaism". Furthermore, even though I am not a Karaite, I have read a lot of their literature and their websites, and believe me they are Way More serious about their Judaism than Reform and Conservative are, so don't lump the Karaites in with Reform and Conservative.
