1. INCONVIENT TIMING, 08' ELECTION FOCUS, IRANS NUKES CAN WAIT
David P. ,   Central Coast, USA   (12.15.07)
these types of misplaced priorities assume that time will stand still, which it won't, and before you know it Iran will have nukes and the USA will react to a situation it could have prevented, but it will be too late

FO ,   Belgium   (12.15.07)
If you would have the slightest knowledge of the history of your own country, you would know that the Golan Heights NEVER belonged to Syria. It was part of mandatory Palestine meant to become the national home for the Jews, as England is the national home for the english, and as France is the national home for the french. All this according the resolutions of the LEAGUE OF NATIONS voted unanimously the 24th of July 1922. This vote implemented Britain as mandatory over Palestine with a very comprehensive road map. I quote article 5: "The mandatory shall be responsible for seeing that no Palestine territory shall be ceded or leased to, or in any way placed under the control of, the Government of any foreign Power." Nevertheless, Britain, in total breach of article 5, ceded the Golan in 1923, to France, the mandatory of Syria. Legally the Golan is not Syrian but part of Palestine that became the State of Israel. Well dear Dichter, ever heard about this piece of history? I guess not! And you are the the Internal Security Minister? Crazy situation!
7. Like Iraq war, Israel dragging US into war with Iran
Buster ,   USA   (12.15.07)
But the American people won't allow another war with Iran under any circumstances.
8. A Fearful and Worrying Peace
Marcel ,   Florida   (12.15.07)
Like a soon to be dead deer in the headlights Israel is entranced by what the US will do or not do. The deer in the headlights and the grasshopper Jew have much in common. They do not look to God but to lies and delusion for help which will not come except from God. The way ISRAEL looks to the US. and worries about what they are going ot do or what they think is religious in reverence and obedience. Israel have gone after idols is worried and nervous about what her new found god might do. Of course Idol worship does have it drawbacks. Better dump yoiur idols and return to Hashem.
9. returning the golan heights
alun ,   london uk   (12.15.07)
is sheer lunacy as it is a reward to Syria for supporting Hizbulloh and will just encourage Iran Hamas and Fatah to restart the intifada It proves violence pays .Because Israel has made no concessions on the Golan it has been the most secure border
10. 7- WE SURE WONT
AMERICAN   (12.15.07)
AMERICNAS ARE SICK OF WAR. go fight it yourself. we gavce you enough free military equipment LEAVE OUR AMERICAN BOYS OUT OF YOUR WARS. JUST Because you cant get along with anyone- you dont have to drag the USA into. IT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM. it is YOUR PROBLEM> AMERICANS LIKE ARABS TOO- WE DONT HATE THEM LIKE YOU JEWS DO.
11. The Israel government is full of warmongers.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.15.07)
They don't represent the Israeli people who are struggling every day just to survive. They represent the rich and powerful Zionist Jews in the West who are profiting from these wars. And right now they are trying to instigate war against Iran, even though Iran has no nuclear weapons. So much for "light unto the nations."
12. #6 - Rubbish
Pat G ,   Pittsburgh, USA   (12.15.07)
Much of the planning the League of Nations did never came to pass - it was a failed attempt at creating something like what the UN is today. Its plans towards the region in which Israel now resides have no legal standing, and you're misrepresenting them anyhow (they did not plan for a single Jewish state).
13. It's Not About the Golan, It's About Israel
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (12.15.07)
To Fo-Belgium: First, I am a long time ardent Zionist. I do what I can to help Israel survive and flourish. That said: Israel is caught between a rock and a hard place. It it stays in the areas taken, it has to deal with 3m angry, hostile, and dangerous Arabs. If it leaves, it only accomplishes relinquishing territory which will be taken over by people like Hamas, Hez, Syrian and Iranian mercenaries, etc. M.E. history is like the stock market, there really is no history..just the future. True, the Golan was part of Palestine..but, lets be honest, the Balfour did not create a Jewish state...with borders. And that is the rub and tragedy. Israel needs defensible borders, in spite of the missile threats. The Allon Plan comes to mind. Returning the Golan is not a priority now. Syria can live w/o it for 100 yrs. (Syria and Iran have formed alliances). ASA Israel withdraws, armies will take it's place, in the W. Bk and the Golan. Israel's only concern is security....it needs buffers. The Golan is a good tank trap. The Jordan Valley should be Israel's eastern defense. However, neither Abbas nor Assad will agree to the above. Soooo, it's all moot anyway., Annapolis or not, summit or not. Livni should now understand more fully the real conflict between Jews and Arabs.
14. Pat USA #12: Rubbish
Steve ,   Fla.   (12.15.07)
What White Europeans conquered from Native Americans, belongs to White Europeans; now "Americans." What the Jews conquered belongs to the Jews.
15. "Something about US plan is flawed"
BJL ,   usa   (12.15.07)
It is called Liberalism and the Clintons. The Leftists in the State Dept support the Democrats in power now. They and the other Leftists ARE FORCING nuclear war upon the middle east. Because Israel does not have a massive military like the USA it will be FORCED to use nuclear weapons to survive. Cant you fools see it? How many times do you have to hear the enemy say it? They will try to wipe Israel off the map!
16. A Tale of two Madnesses!
Ariel Yochanan ,   London   (12.15.07)
Wasn't it the same US and British intelligence that told us that WMD's in Iraq was a 'Slam dunk?' Why should we believe the US intelligence assessment now? And giving the Golan back to Syria is not political pragmatism, it is pragmatic national suicide!
17. us error
geroge   (12.15.07)
I take it that you supported Olmert who is the one that decided the uS should be the judge. Now you cry about it. Well, the hell with your talk. If you had any guts, you would throw olmert out, as he would do everything to block an israeli move whether against gaza or iran. The best thing you could do is to meet with olmert in his office and tell him he is to resign in 2 weeks time, otherwise you'll punch him out. He is desparate to stay as he wants to rehabilitate his image. He knows if he leaves office the way he is, no one will go near him in israel as he will be viewed as a leper. he will have to join his relatives in Europe or US.
18. MYOB
John ,   USA   (12.15.07)
Whenever Israel wants to disclose its own nuclear program and weapons, it may comment on other's. Otherwise, Israel, you should mind your own business. TIA

21. YNET's campaign for WWIII
Canalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (12.16.07)
Very strange, every day now since the US report on Iran was published YNET has managed to publish an end-of-the-world scenario in an attempt to induce the US to ignore what the entire western intelligence community says and instead to start slaughtering the Iranians in order to secure the future of a few thousand fascist settlers on the West Bank. YNET, grow up, are you a news organisation or stooges for a corrupt and decadent regime. Israel cried wolf once too often over Iraq. Now its famous army, great at fighting kids with stones, will have to fight its own battles against a real well equipped army - Americans are sick of their sons and daughters dying to save Tapuach, Tekoa, Kyriat Arba, Efrat... and all the other parasitic settlements.
22. re 4, Golan is Syrian Arab
Sayid ,   Sweden   (12.16.07)
23. Dichter's Assessment
Brod ,   USA   (12.16.07)
He is right about the his concern on US intelligence report. But he is wrong in his approach to Syria. The idea of giving away Israel's liberated biblical and historic homeland such as the Golan will produce peace is fallacious. Somehow these people do not know the history, nature, aggression and agenda of Islamist Jihadism. If he thinks that it worked with Egypt. He is wrong. The 'peace of paper' with Egypt is just as good as a toilet paper. Israelis have lost many lives by Egyptian Islamist-Jihadist terrorisms thoughout the years since the 'peace of paper' was signed. Mubarak has never visited Israel. In fact, Egypt is facilitating the inflow of arms to its tentacle-Hamastan. And what did Hamastan do? Hamastan terrorized Southwestern Israel such as Sderot and surrounding towns by bombarding them with more than 2000 rockets. Giving away more of Israel's liberated biblical and historic homeland to the wolves will not and will never generate peace. In fact, it will facilitate Israel's enemies to position their heavy arms in strategic places aimed at tiny Israel so that they can inflict a Final Solution on the Jewish State. Hence, what Israel needs are NOT Chamberlains who think their dark fanatical Islamist-Jihadist enemies can become angels over a 'peace of paper,' but Churchills who can and will defend every inch of Israel's liberated biblical and historic homeland from the usurpation, occupation and terrorisms of the enemies. A nation is only as strong as its leadership. Hence, weak leadership should give way to strong leadership to ensure Israel's deterrence and national security interests.
24. Bush created hegemonic Iran; Why not a nuclear Iran?:
David Turner ,   Richmond, US   (12.16.07)
Olmert keeps rationalizing Bush as if his hero’s legacy were anything but a string of misconceived failure. Certainly Bush’s most prominent regional disaster was his unintended promotion of a hegemonic Iran. Unless by removing the Islamic Republic’s traditional enemies Iraq and Afghanistan Bush intended to promote Iranian influence? And now, having completely destabilized the Middle East, with Afghanistan and Iraq in civil war; with the Arabian oil producers peering nervously across the Gulf, their American military umbrella in complete tatters; with oil production at risk and the shipping channels themselves under the Iranian gun (it is, after all, the Persian Gulf); with Israel more uncertain than at any time since 1967. And now the cherry atop the sundae: Bush decides he doesn’t want to commit to his long-touted military option against Iran so chooses to hide behind yet another bogus intelligence report (remember the invisible WMD’s justifying his assault on Iraq?) to give Iran yet another assist in her drive to hegemony, the creation of a nuclear option. I suppose this is a fitting final act of this presidency: using bogus intelligence to justify war at the front end; using bogus intelligence to hide from a more justifiable one at the rear end. Does have a certain symmetry to it. Thank you, Avi, for pointing out the obvious, that Israel should never allow herself the luxury of a dependent relationship. Let us hope Israel can now turn things around, regain her confidence and credibility.
25. #10- You are ....
Solly ,   los angeles, CA., U.   (12.16.07)
so stupid and selfish because it boomerangs on USA anyway at the end. They hate your guts no less than ours. You stupid foolish democrat liberal insane maniac!! When your supermarkets get blown, you will understand, idiot!! 9/11 was not enough for you?!!
26. nice that the syrians have dichter working for them
dante ,   uk   (12.16.07)
with capitulationists like dichter in positions of authority, the syrians don't have to do much, do they? of course, the syrians want the golan. it is important to them to deprive Israel of this part of Israel's ancient patrimony and it is important as a base from which to attack Israel. the syrians lost the golan in two wars. it's time for them to say "goodbye" to the golan.
27. yomkippur war but this time the ruslts going to be different
ali haseeb ,   canada   (12.16.07)
yes if no one is going to stop israeli occupation and if israel is going to try to even harm iran yom kippur war will going to star but this time to end israeli occupation
28. It's about the oil
Daniel ,   TA   (12.16.07)
If the world can find a way to not need Arab oil and use alternative fuel sources no one would care a whit what happened in Iran, Iraq etc. They would look to Israel as a Hi-Tech industry leader and support her over the useless oil which now drives them to broker deals with the backwards Arab states. There would be no need to cede land to anyone. Israel should find an economically sound, green, inexpensive means of alternative fuel and sell it to the world. Were she to do that there would be nothing the Arab states have that would be of value. This would solve all the issues.
29. Ali Haseeb #27
Brod ,   USA   (12.16.07)
So, you want Iran to have nukes so that they can vaporize Israel. Iran has threatened to annihilate Israel. Israel has all the rights in the world to defend herself and ensure that those nukes will never appear. As all Islamist-Jihadists are, they can spout all their craps. But when the Israelis whipped them in the battlefields, they cried like babies. Make sure you learn some history before spouting your crap.
30. yeah Israeli occupation would change
Shir ,   Finland   (12.16.07)
in Iranian occupation. Then you wouldn´t be allowed to speak Arabic anymore, your new language would be Persian. Is that what you want, Persian Shiite Muslim soldiers roaming your streets. Nice future scenario isn´t it. There is no way Iran will ever win Israel, you´ll see. Israel has plenty of nukes, and missiles with nuclear warheads. (if necessary, those missiles are used) And to think that Iran only wants to destroy Israel and not conquer Arab lands in order to expand Iran, you Arabs are unbelievably shortsighted. Iranians want the ancient Persian Empire back. They want the whole Persian Gulf.
