You do not find checkpoints, etc in these other countries because the people of one religion or ethnic background are not trying to commit terrorist acts on the other citizens of the nation. These different forms of identification are not meant to separate the different people who reside in the same nation, but are obviously meant merely as security and safety measures to protect against terrorist attacks.
