1. Priority should be given to the infertile
Ora ,   Jerusalem   (12.20.07)
If gay couples are willing to raise an older child with serious mental or physical problems who would otherwise not have a loving home, more power to them. But I don't think it's fair to allow them to adopt Jewish babies. There are far, far more people waiting to adopt than babies available, and priority should be given to couples suffering from infertility, not to couples who simply choose adoption over natural reproduction (gay couples can have biological children via a sperm donation or surrogate mother). BTW, I think that infertile couples should be given priority over straight couples with biological children as well. For some people, adoption is their only chance to start a family and raise children, and we shouldn't take that from them just because we may prefer adoption.
2. Gay adoption is one aspect of the problem
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (12.20.07)
There is an anti-religious, anarchistic, anti-nationalistic trend that is spreading throughout the West, Israel included. Gays, and their left-wing allies, don't really want what they claim, like gay marriage which is now legal here in Massachusetts. They want to break down the very structure of traditional society as defined in the Judeo-Christian lifestyle. Gays can get married here, but very few do, after the initial euphoria of the court ruling. They, just like straight people, really want an anarchy where there are no rules, other than their politically correct rules, there is no notion of sexual identity, and there is no unifying tradition. It's a sick trend, but it's there nevertheless. It won't last, because in their hearts people don't want it, but it is doing a lot of damage right now.
3. There are good parents and bad parents not gay and straight
Tif ,   New Jersey USA   (12.20.07)
Oh Baruch of Boston....be careful less you sound like you've crawled out from under a rock. There are good parents and bad parents...not gay parents and straight parents. Are you defined as a parent according to what you do to your wife in bed? Of course not. I am a very successful businesswoman, as is my beautiful Jewish partner. We have a very well adjusted 18 yr old son in college with a great circle of friends. We are the farthest thing from anarchists....your statement is actually foolish....and we celebrate Jewish tradition and honor Shabbat and don't need or deserve to be minimilized by the likes of you. Shalom. ~Tif, Orly and Zack
4. Baruch - Not so smart
ipeace ,   Toronto   (12.20.07)
Baruch, you are probably very stuck in biblical times. I am gay and Jewish and belive me preserving my Jewish heritage is extremly important to me. I am so tired of be orthordox Jews judgements towards everyone (including gays), you should focus on the turmoils within your own community, specifically the discriminatory aspects. You are the first to shut another Jew out because they dont share in the identical rituals. Believe me Baruch, my connection to G-D and the Jewish people is deeper and more inspiring then your auto piloted rituals....change yourself and you will change the world.
5. According to Dr. John Ankerberg's studies, the
Rivkah   (12.20.07)
average life-span for homosexuals, whether male or female is 42 years of age. It is unfair to children to be adopted by people who cannot be expected to be around to see their grandchildren. Why is there such a short life expectancy among gays? Diseases such as AIDS is one reason, but violence is another. Gays are more likely to be murdered by partners when they break up and by people who are offended by a gay lifestyle. Being gay is hazardous to one's health.

redmiike ,   tel aviv and london   (12.20.07)
Nature doesn't allow two members of the same sex to have a child and neither should society. The child is the one that must be considered and not whether a gay couple selfishly want a child or not. Imagine a poor child bringing a friend home from school who asks, "where's you're mother?' and he has to reply "that's him over there'. The negative permutations of the above are endless and children are better off in orphanages or foster care rather than being messed up for life by two parents of the same sex. Mike

13. rivkah , again !
charles ,   petach tikva   (12.20.07)
The USA had thrown money away by paying your studies , we see the results : the stupidest talk backs . Those "violent" gays , those aids infected , are not those who live together for decades . You can say the same thing about heterosexual couples , there are also many who kill their wives , who get separated . People who are offended by gay lifestyle , are those who as you , were rejected by everyone , sad old woman .
14. ignorant idiot
lilliane ,   brighton, uk   (12.20.07)
better a gay adoption than to be in a bad heterosexual family. this guy is an ignorant bigoted idiot.
15. Gay and happy father
Yaacov Sullivan ,   NY   (12.20.07)
average life-span for homosexuals, whether male or female is 42 years of age. Rivka, this is not true. As a matter of fact I am a gay man of 65 and had countless partners during my lifetime and even adopted 2 boys recently. It is possible to be a gay, Catholic and extremely spiritual person. Have a good day!
16. Baruch, Gays are cool, not demons
Yaacov Sullivan ,   NY   (12.20.07)
"Gays, and their left-wing allies, don't really want what they claim, like gay marriage which is now legal here in Massachusetts. They want to break down the very structure of traditional society as defined in the Judeo-Christian lifestyle." This is not nessesarrily true, Baruch. I am a gay man , who also charish Judeo- Christian values ( I am ex- Catholic turned Humanistic Jew) I love my gay life style with multiple partners ( I am an actor), but I have also respect family values and even adopted 2 boys recently.
17. As a gay Jewish dad through adoption...
Gay Dad ,   Washington DC   (12.20.07)
I can safely say that Yitzhak Cohen's diatribe is shtut muchletet. Our son (4)is being raised as a Jew, attends a Jewish preschool and speaks some Hebrew. Even at this young age, he loves Israel, the chagim, and the Hebrew language (although Yitzhak Cohen probably wouldn't be happy to hear him singing songs from the Festigal). Adoption finds a home for a child in need of a family. Our son adds to the strength of the Jewish people and, trust me, our family doesn't differ much, if at all, from the heterosexual Jewish families we know.
18. To #11 - Redmike
Gay Jewish Dad ,   Washington DC   (12.20.07)
Redmike wrote: "The negative permutations of the above are endless and children are better off in orphanages or foster care rather than being messed up for life by two parents of the same sex. " Only someone who knows nothing about child development and adoption could make a statement like you did. The damage done by foster care and orphanages to a child and his/her ability to trust, love, and flourish is well-documented. As for bringing home friends, our son does so all the time - we're his Dads (Abba and Daddy to be precise) - and even at a young age he can discuss his family and compare it to others. Fortunately, we don't have Redmike or Yitzhak Cohen as neighbors. Instead, we know all sorts of Jewish families -- many of them married couples, some single parents, and some same-sex families. All of us inculcate Ahavat Yisrael in our kids.
19. Multiple/Countless Partners??? Y. Sullivan
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (12.20.07)
Like he's proud of this fact??? Ex-Catholic turned 'Humanistic Jew???' How does one do that?? And he adopted two boys recently? G-d save those boys!!

ilya ,   ta   (12.20.07)
everyone needs to get over themselves and realize it doesn't matter what they think. Today's family takes on many different forms and roles. There are few differences between straights and gays other than which sex they have sex with. There are many families where the straight parents beat the children and neglect them. Maybe these children should be taken from such evil families. Whatever the case is, if you don't like gay adoption, it's not your problem if you're not gay. WOrry about things that affect you, like all the bad things you did today.
22. haha
eyal ,   NY   (12.20.07)
i love when random people start citing facts that they don't know anything about. It's the best. The bottom line is this: i am gay and i am going to adopt probably. Then I am moving to Israel to raise the children. If you're against gay adoption, you're just going to have to deal with it, like you've had to deal with tons of other things in your life. It's part of life! If you don't like how your life is going and the world is heading, then you know what to do.

24. #3, #4, #16
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (12.21.07)
One only needs to read the rantings of these people to understand why HaShem forbids these lifestyles. Let me quote "Oh Baruch of Boston....be careful less you sound like you've crawled out from under a rock. " "Baruch, you are probably very stuck in biblical times. " "This is not nessesarrily true, Baruch. I am a gay man , who also charish Judeo- Christian values ( I am ex- Catholic turned Humanistic Jew) I love my gay life style with multiple partners ( I am an actor), but I have also respect family values and even adopted 2 boys recently. " These people exemplify the alternate lifestyles that I can't respect. They have so perverted what is rational and what is moral that they can't even comprehend what is wrong with what they do. They all claim to be actively involved in Judaism, and yet they so blatantly violate it. They indulge themselves in their improper sexual orientations which are clearly in violation of any Jewish law up until the revisionist interpretations of recent years. They will not last, but, as I said, they are causing great damage to normal society right now.
25. #19 Don't be so old fashioned, Chaya
Yaaciov Sullivan ,   NY   (12.21.07)
Yes, I have multiple patners and I don't see why it hurts my boys. Since in Humanistic Judaism we don't believe in God, we believe in Human morality. So if we say that multiple partners are OK to keep the family strong, this is what counts, not what is written in your Bible. I believe in live and let live. I am a happy man, an actor ( struggling) and very active in Palestinian rights movements. ( And I know what you think about Palestinians- this is not true, they have many gay people in Ramallah and I spent some good times there years ago...) I am simply saying that we have to be open minded abou gays, after all King David had 1000 wifes and I think he had some male lovers too, so why be judgemental?
26. #21 Absolutely right
Yaacov Sullivan ,   NY   (12.21.07)
everyone needs to get over themselves and realize it doesn't matter what they think. Today's family takes on many different forms and roles. There are few differences between straights and gays other than which sex they have sex with. There are many families where the straight parents beat the children and neglect them. Maybe these children should be taken from such evil families Even people in hystory had striong gay inclination like Arafat, Jesus and Pope Claudious the Fifth, so truth must be told. I hope in the near future we will have world leaders who are proud gays. Imagine American President a proud gay. As Hertzel said: If you believe, this will happen.
27. George Washington
Sidney ,   USA   (12.21.07)
Our first and greatest president said to a Jewish congregation: "To bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance". Who more than Jews should follow this precept? Minister Cohen comes from a party of whores. Shas joins any government for a price regardless of its policies. Just as Hitler declared Jews to be subhuman, Cohen declares homosexuals to be subhuman. They died together in the death camps.

30. 8 Andy: A FOOL says in his heart there is not God.
Rivkah   (12.21.07)
Why should God reward people who live a lifestyle that is offensive to the teachings of the Torah with long life? He does not, in most cases, for gays. That is a statistical fact from Dr. Ankerberg's studies.
