This should not be even discussed in Israel. In Finland they brought a bill of law permitting Christian gay couples to marry in Christian Church (currently civil marriage is only option), but the Finnish Parliament rejected the bill. I´m so grateful for that. Israelis say they want all Jews and half-Jews and quarter-Jews to return to Israel, but why would we return somewhere where they don´t preserve Jewish traditions, morals and values anymore. If gay adoptions are permitted in Israel there is no place for conservative Jews to come back to. After all israel is JEWISH country, not a land of immoral debauchery.

Many blacks are adopted by whites here in the states. Perhaps you haven't heard? The American Indiands have tried successfully to keep their kids in an Indian home. I left the States 15 years ago and of course don't know the individual adoption laws for every country. You make my point by mentioning American Indians. This article should have been called "Gay adoption not for anyone" because the world is certainly not ready for it. Gays may selfishly adopt children that will be stigmatized because of them and will most probably grow up confused because of them. Redmike, Thanks (seriously) for the good wishes. As to the issue of transracial adoption, most Western countries do allow it (US, Canada, W Europe, and indeed Israel). Yes, there are a lot of issues to take into account but a child is better off in a family than in an institution -- a study was just highlighted in today's NYT about the harmful effects of orphanages on children. As a dad to a transracially adopted (Latino) child, I do appreciate the challenges, and make a lot of effort, including Jewishly, to connect my son to his birthculture.

Most of my neighbors are gay and I have gay friends. They include a gay man with kids and a lesbian with kids. The latter lived next door to me for 10 years. I feel sorry for those children. Their mom or dad is always changing partners. They continuously bring strangers into the home. The adult sleeping in their parent's bed could be the same for a couple of years, but usually it's for a couple of months. Most of their mom or dad's friends are gay, too. The children are immersed in the gay lifestyle. They are now young adults with emotional problems. Israel doesn't need this.

They would be adopted in loving, good STRAIGHT families. A kid has the right to choose whether he or she wants to be adopted into a normal straight family or an abnormal family with two dads.
