2. The world's bleeding wound ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (01.09.08)
Do you think, perhaps, this description is a bit over the top? What is this nonsense, this exaggerated florid language more suitable for a eulogy? Should I name a few "bleeding wounds" that that better qualify for that description? Let's start with Darfur. How about Iraq where sectarian violence & Islamic crazies kill a hundred a day? Somaila is a good candidate. So is Congo. The south of Sudan? Zimbabwe could be called a "bleeding wound". Burma is another. Pakistan & Afghanistan are two more. Wouldn't you call Islamic terrorism generally the world's "bleeding wound"? So Iran & Saudi Arabia could be called "bleeding wounds" as well. By any objective standards, our miserable little conflict is not of real significance on a world scale. In truth, few people are killed. Actually, few people are directly affected at all. In geographic terms, even the area involved is miniscule. There are no great resources involved - no oil, no diamonds, no gold. Sure, it's important to us - all 1/10 of one percent of the world's population who are Jews. And here we come to the real issue - it's only important on a world scale because it concerns Jews. Because the issue has been raised all out of proportion - we have become a media event. And underlying all this attention is the all-too-familiar Jew hatred. The world's bleeding wound indeed.
3. I agree

4. Bleeding wound
Johann Haefliger ,   Sion Switerland   (01.09.08)
The dagger that originally made this wound to open and keeps it bleeding is the Zionist ideology!

8. What!! Are You Guys On Drugs?
emanon ,   USA   (01.09.08)
Bush a friend of Israel? NFW! Remember, this is the guy that pressured Israel into giving up Gaza for the sake of peace. This is the guy that wants to divide Jerusalem for the sake of peace. This is the guy that wants to carve up more of Israel and palce it in the hands of terrorists for the sake of peace. Has peace come since Gaza has been given over to the terrorists? NO!!! Will peace come is Jerusalem is divided? NO!!! Will peace come if even more land is given to the terrorists? NO!!! You know why? BECAUSE THE ARAB WORLD DOES NOT WANT ISRAEL TO EXIST. IT IS NOT ABOUT LAND. Bush wants oil, the Arab lands have oil, the Arab lands want Israel dismantled so Bush will oversee the dismantling of Israel. That's the bottom line!
9. Peace of Bush
Martin Aubut ,   Sherbrooke, Canad   (01.09.08)
Christians, Muslims, communists... etc. spread around the world for bringing peace, prosperity and enlightenment. Now Bush, the cowboy, sow them with bullets and bombs : Always take care of whom pretend to be the savior.
10. Other shoe
Michael ,   Chicago   (01.09.08)
"...you think bush is the first and foremost of your american friends?dude where do you live?bush and his government are destroying the world!..." Dude, you're insane! He lives in Israel and knows exactly what kind of ideology is destroying the world. Democacy? No. Communism? Not anymore Islamic Fundamentalism? Bingo! I really feel sorry for Israel. A Sovereign nation that has to allow an entire population who wants nothing more than to see you and your people destroyed live in their midst. Funny thing is, Israel HAS the power to end the Palestinian existence in a matter of minutes, yet, they do not, they let the nasty boil fester. I wonder what if? What if the Palestinians ever had the capability of destroying Israel, how long it would take for them to try and exterminate the Jews? If the Palestinians ever had the capability of ending all Jews, they would do it the next day.
11. Yeah right
daniel   (01.09.08)
"Two thousand years of exile and persecution have honed our ability to distinguish between friend and foe" If there's one thing wrong with the jews it's our inability to reckognize who our enemies are.
12. Michael #11, what makes you so sure
israeli ,   israel   (01.09.08)
they"d wait till the next day?
13. Bush's visit
Mike Pytlik ,   Detroit   (01.09.08)
Wow, what a glowing endoresement of Bush on his visit to Israel. Yes, America is a great friend of Israel, and I am one of its great supporters and I love it very much. I do, however, think you have put way too much hope in this "doctor" who has come to heal the Middle East. He is not competent; despite all of the blather about stopping terrorism, he did nothing to predict or interdict the tragedy of the Lebabon just two years ago. He is not only not competent, he is sadly lacking in any content that could or would bring peace to any shore. He is not your man...look at the neighborhood just 600 miles East of Israel and try to make the claim that this doctor is anything more than a quack. He comes to you as a lame duck, after utterly destroying our Constitution and stepping on the backs of millions of hopeful people around the world. This sad excuse of a doctor doesn't even come with a band-aid.
14. If you are so in love with him, keep him there permanently!
Texan ,   TX, USA   (01.09.08)
Pleeeeeeeease!
15. Israeli #12

16. You should say welcome DAD
(01.09.08)
Who pays good you call him dad , who pay less you call him uncle and who doesn't pay at all you call him amti-simitic .... looool
17. #6- Dude, what do Europeans like you have to offer?
Cameron ,   USA   (01.09.08)
My God, what a trembling, cowardly lot you have degenerated into. Have a delicious meal, spend the day indulging your appetites, and avoid grappling with the problems of the cold, scary world.
18. Things Ignored WIlll turn around and bite...
Psalms 83 ,   Selah   (01.09.08)
1. a significant Jewish population that takes its faith and the covenant for the land of israel with G-d very seriously. 2. a large portion of Palistinians that believe the land of israel was stolen from them....and believe the only peace possible is HUDNA ....A TEMPORARY Peace till enough stength to evict Israel from the mideast... 3. a secular population that believes in peace at any cost. Three differant agendas all at odds with each other. all three intensly believe thier position is the only solution and will die for it rather than comprimise... Bushs road map ignores the prophcies of the tanach. in Psalms 83 all the players in the current conflict are listed....a little background research on the nations listed in psalms 83 will virtualy show them to be the same as those nations currently arrayed against israel today .... also see Ezekiel 36 thru 40
19. I agree with you 100%.
AK   (01.09.08)
20. You debase the meaning of Righteous Gentile
Ethylene ,   UK   (01.10.08)
Which President has done less to help the Jews reach peace? Who has given the peace process but a single "nudge" (his words) in the last 4 years since the road map? Who the hell gave Yediot the right to tell Bush he ranks alongside Oskar Schindler? Or the brave people of Denmark who saved Jews on boats in the night with the Nazis closing in? I am crying as I think of those what those people did for us. I am stunned that you so lightly abuse their names and their deeds. Righteous Gentiles saved Jews in the Holocaust. This Bush is just a buffoon, one of the worst Presidents in history.
21. 20 ET.. Youre country has done even less than America.
freedom ,   canada   (01.10.08)
You do still have a law on the books regarding Jews dont you. Dont sound so self righteous as what have you done lately? Have you saved Darfur and the christians, NO> what about zimbabwe. NO> Leave the hard decisions to America, YES. Maybe its time for the UK to take the lead in helping those persecuted around the world, and protecting minorities from harassment and persecution. You should define gentile much more accurately. Yes, thats enough for now.
22. @21 Freedom
Ethylene ,   UK   (01.10.08)
What law are you talking about? Actually the Labour government brokered the Good Friday agreement for Northern Ireland, and has put troops in Sierra Leone and Kosovo to stop war and killing. Plus we have troops fighting the Taliban every day in Afghanistan. So the UK's record is better than most. My problem is that Yediot is taking a valuable concept that is beyond politics and using it in a cynically partisan way to acclaim somebody who has not gone through or achieved anything like what real Righteous Gentiles did. Did you even know what a "Righteous Gentile" is? You don't get it just for being a gentile!!!
23. be careful georgie poo, Pat robertson
george bush ,   usa   (01.10.08)
will curse you if you give away any jewish lands
24. Shas will support Annapolis if Bush releases Pollard
David Turner   (01.10.08)
If Bush is serious about peace between Israel and Palestine then he was just handed his best opportunity to salvage Annapolis. Two nights ago he was handed a letter by Deputy Prime Minister Eli Yishai from Rabbi Ovadia Yosef: Shas* will commit to support prisoner exchanges, the opening wedge to Stage 1 of the Roadmap, in exchange for the Bush freeing Jonathan Pollard. How would this benefit Abbas? With Palestine in social and political chaos a Shas support for a more liberal policy towards prisoners might lead to the release of Marwan Barghouti, young, charismatic and possibly the only Palestinian able to unite polity and politicians. How would this benefit Olmert? If Shas walks, and it likely will if the prime minister gets too far out in front regarding concessions, the coalition collapses and Olmert will face Winograd wounded and unprotected. How would this benefit Bush? Since the terror attack on New York in 2001 this president created a string of military and diplomatic failures across the Middle East. Afghanistan is facing civil war from a resurgent Taliban; Iraq is essentially leaderless and also in civil war; Iran, unimpressed by Bush or an American military bogged down in wars against the Islamic Republic’s neighbors and former enemies; the Sunni oil producers insecure under the tatters of a previous American military umbrella. The list goes on. With only one year to go before he leaves office, Annapolis offers Bush his only possible success, his last chance for a positive accomplishment, a legacy to point to. And a successful Israel-Palestine peace process would outshine the accomplishments of all his predecessors. But in order to move this forward he needs a untied Palestine with a leader capable of negotiating; a stable Israel government with a leader empowered to negotiate. He would contribute to both by accepting Shas* offer. Pollard is Bush*s rabbit in the hat, if he is strong and confident enough to pull it out.
25. Bush's Decision
(01.10.08)
Bush will have to make a choice; 1. Give away Israel 2. Lose his girlfriend Conduleesa!
