Israel shouldn't have prevented Palestinians like Habash from returning to their land of birth in 1949. That way Israeli citizens wouldn't have had to worry about being killed by pissed-off guys like him for the balance of their years on this planet. Seems to make perfect sense to me. The Lydda Death March in 1948 was one thing, but any idiot can see how preventing people from returning to their homes and then using an "Absentee Property Law" to permanently deprive them of these homes would pressure at least a few of these people into a homocidal state of mind. What did Israel expect? Habash to drop to his knees in unlimited gratitude to Israel? As it unfolded, though, Israel made an arch-enemy of a man who still had 60 years of life in him and many, many Israelis died who might not have had to. What doesn't make sense to me is why people don't show a little more respect for men like Habash, who was a human being like you and me and behaved in predictably human ways, especially now that he is dead.
