31. Demonisation of homosexuals
Steve ,   London, UK   (02.22.08)
It seems ironic to me, as a pro-Israeli Humanist, that whilst all the Abrahamic faiths are divided on so many issues, they stand united in their stereotyping and demonisation of homosexuals, frequently failing to distinguish between orientation and practice. I think it is especially ironic that Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Communism and Fascism all share a deep repulsion towards homosexuals and a desire for our eradication. Much of the rhetoric directed at us by all faiths: religious and political, is so strikingly similar to the kind of slander than the Nazis practiced in the 1930s to stir up enmity, and tolerance of the unacceptable towards Jewish Germans, yet whilst we rightly regard anti-Semitism as abhorrent, the paratheistic antigay agenda which so closely resembles anti-Semitism, certainly in Britain, is seen as the acceptable face of religious liberty. Perhaps it is always easier to shout at the men with splinters in their eyes when one is blinded by the log in ones own eyes.
32. Only one question
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.22.08)
for all the anti Gay believers : if being Gay is a sin , why has god ceated them . You who condemn them , have the same ideas as those who from 1933 to 45 murdered them , in the same way as they did with our grand parents . The only difference then was an other colour of badge .
33. #31, Steve, how about demonization of religious people?
American Jew ,   America   (02.22.08)
I happen to be a Conservative Jew and my movement performs marriages between gays and lesbians and even ordains gays and lesbians as rabbis and chazzans. I am proud to say that we have gay and lesbian members of our congregation. Nevertheless, I personally find your grouping of all Jews together to be deplorable and despicable. Equating Judaism as a whole with Nazism isn't something I would ever expect to hear from a person who describes him or herself as pro-Israel. If the Orthodox don't allow individuals who are openly gay or lesbian to be members of the Orthodox community, what does it matter? Gays and lesbians are more than welcome in Conservative and Reform synagogues, and my personal belief is that if the Orthodox don't accept them, the Orthodox are hurting nobody but themselves. I think, however, what the gay/lesbian community needs to understand is that all orthodoxies involve a certain willingness to stomach dogma and any act that demonstrates unwillingness to do so renders a person outside of that orthodoxy. Either you play by the rules or you are out. That said, to ask the Orthodox community to sell out their beliefs by labeling them bigots is also an act of demonization. If you are indeed a Humanist, you must aquiesce yourself to the fact that this viewpoint has a leg to stand on. In short, Steve, let the Orthodox go their way and let the Conservatives and Reformim go their way. I'm unsure of the statistics in Britain, but in the US, 50% of all Jews aren't affiliated with any synagogue and only 20% of the Jews affiliated with a synagogue affiliate with Orthodox synagogues. This means that only 10% of American Jews ascribe to Orthodoxy. Please don't answer bigotry with even more bigotry, Steve.
34. Eretz Y'Israel or Diaspora?
Chaim69 ,   Norwich, UK   (02.22.08)
I note that a number of responses to this article come from individuals outside of Israel. In MOST other countries there are a range of secular choices for LGBT, (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender), and the general laws of society are not as strongly influenced by Judaism. Being LGBT in Israel is a different matter, although most people in Tel-Aviv have an 'EMBAYA', (no matter), attitude to sexuality, elsewhere in the country it is a different matter. A lack of choice of non-authodox community, oppressive judgemental values and even extreme physical violence can make it very hard to be a part of everyday society. Understanding may be a long way off, but tolerance is surely not too much to ask. Personally speaking I believe 'Gay Gezunt' Hait!!!'
35. its very simple
Joe ,   USA   (02.22.08)
You want to eat pork, work on saturday, steal, or have gay sex? CONVERT OUT. We don't want you you pretending to be a Jew. You may have been born a Jew, but you are not acting like a Jew. Being a Jew has responsibilities. If you can't handle them, we'll help you, but if you insist on breaking our rules, THEN GET OUT!

No,I'm not gay but what if I were? I believe Hashem does not make mistakes, thus being gay is natural ..And who are you to decide whose Jewish? Do you think you're speaking for G-D?? Methinks you're another prejudiced loony Wake up to reality

38. 30 M Harltley in Atlanta?
Shorty   (02.23.08)
If I recall correctly a person stands a one in 60 chance that each year they will be a victim of a capital crime, such as rape, armed robery, and asualt. Atlanta has a very high crime rate. Maybe they don't cuase eartquakes where you live, but we know the fruit just as well. Sitting in the Jesus freak bible belt eating warm bread baked by gays and loving it. How much of a goy gamor can you be. Admit it, if you were sitting with Lot when the crowded begged for the Angles to come out, you would have waved your hand to the vistors and with a full mouth of bread said, "go on they won't bite you." Will watch for you in the next episode of COPS in Atlanta. You can explain to the camera, "I was just eating my bread, when....."
39.  #37 , again this fake Jew is barking
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.23.08)
40. #30 Unbelievable
Josh   (02.23.08)
I looked at you post and tried to figure out what part of it was more unbelieveable. In Atlanta, a gay is more likely to be attacked than most cities. This is why places like San Francisco are so full of gays relocated from across the country. In a bible belt city where "cussin" and "sir" and "mam" are customary greetings, there is very little tolerance for non-godly behavior. I addition, there is a deep seated belief that jews have horns and many of the extreme bible belt Jesus freaks think the Jews are helping Satan bring a new world order. So having a bible belt grandma or grandpa "old aged" posting on ynet seems a far ways from reality. Not counting Paqid, of course. You calling Catholics aliens, fits the Baptist fighting words against the Catholics, however everything else is not normal. If you were an elderly Georgia Bell,, you would bake bread as all "respectable" southerners do, in a bread-pan. Only a child of the 80s would own such a contraption as a bread machine. I met a girl in Atlanta who had been married multiple times before the age of 21, as sex out of wed lock is a sin. It is not a "progressive" society as the liberals would coin it. The gays would not show up wearing garter belts and feather boas for in Atlanta they would be more likely to wear black eyes for such behavior. Even in the trendiest spots in Atlanta, they keep a low profile. After all the klan is still in town. I think your fantasies belong in a drugstore paper back novel with a knock-off picture of a guy that looks like Fabio. This way it can sit faded in the window from years of sun rot and be littered with dead flies. Actually it would probably end up in some buck-tooth book burning ceremony. Next you'll tell us you live in Thiory or Petach Tikva. Your friends are plumbers and painters and they are lining up for gay house cleaners? My goodness what salaries these particulay construction workers have. Most plumbers and painters I knew in Atlanta couldn't pay rent at a two-bit flop house. Yours have not one but two gay men to clean thier 4x6 room as they tremp across town using the MARTA and argue with the natives on whether a white or black man is superior and who will win the super bowl. So unbelievable you and your high class day laborers. The philipinos here in Israel all drive limozines and have gay cleaners too-NOT. I must say at least there is a little more writing of the scene being done, but the characters are still unbelievable. Abpaqcharin. Leave the Jews alone.
41. Josh the goy is giving lessons !
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.23.08)
How does this bipede dare ? You know something of being attacked by people who know you're a fake guy . Try to find some plumber to fix what you use as "brains" , maybe he will help . Poor rejected guy . When have you seen your family and friends for the last time ? When they rejected you ?
42. #39 Your not a fake?
Josh   (02.23.08)
How dare you call people Nazis when they call upon people to respect Torah laws? Torah forbids being gay. God is just thus no one required to do Torah was created by God to be gay. Even you bread maker posts are a joke.
43. #30 Not a Georgia Peach
Josh   (02.23.08)
Are we to believe that the salaries of painters and plumbers has risen in Atlanta to the point that they can afford two gay house cleaners? I lived north of the perimiter, and the construction workers I have known could not pay their latest traffic tickets let alone afford two house keepers to clean their rooms. Seems their is a surplus of laborers everywhere except in the imagination of M Hartley (if this is not an alais). Or are we to believe that a elderly Gerogia Peach is inviting over gay men who dress wildly for all to see? Aparently this is a part of Georgia that is not part of the red-necked god-fearing bible belt the world has come to know. Are we to believe that the bible belt south that respectfully addresses one another as sir and mam, are now lining up for gays to clean their houses? Are we to believe a self respecting elderly Georgian doesn't know how to make a good meal or that an invention of the 80's such as a bread machine is now used to bake bread instead of a bread pan in an oven? It seems a bit made up to me. Something a ex-Baptist Minister who claims to be a halacha expert would say. Jews for Jesus and some bread anyone? Barf. Enough of the bogus posts.
44. Josh fake Jew , but true LIAR
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.23.08)
Where did i call people nazis when they call upon people to respect tora laws .
45. 32 one question for you charles
jack bauer   (02.24.08)
then why did god create hitler? what kind of crap is that? nobody is saying round up gays, put them into camps and gas them all! that is what you imply..... how dare you get on the bandwagon and call for religious leaders to change their laws and beliefs to suit some poofters My family stood up and fought against the nazis, and risked their lives to protect jews but none, NONE of them promote gayness, or will change their adherence to the commandments of Hashem how dare you try and stain them with you brush
46. ynet loves gays....and promotes them without shame
jack bauer   (02.24.08)

It kind of struck me when you mentioned the woman whose been married multiple times. Without further explanation, she would be more in the range of liberal.
48. There's no problem with lesbians because
Talula ,   Israel   (02.24.08)
a bit of girl on girl action is every man's fantasy. Asaf Wohl, this is a nice article, it makes a change from the sick evil gay bashing people that too often make their way into the media to voice their ignorant opinions.
49. Jack
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.24.08)
Yes , why did god create hitler ? I know that your family helped Jews , that they risked their lives . You say that they did'nt promote gays . There is a difference between "promoting" and "condemning" . And there is a difference between "condemning" and murdering . You can disagree , being gay is not my way of life , i can't understand it , girls and women being so wonderful . And you can condemn in different ways , for different reasons . But i can't accept that in the name of religion you will impose your views to others . And don't forget , by condemning them , it's the begin of a processus that can bring to murder . We have seen such condemnations here , regarding the sale of pork . Two shops were set ablaze . No victims , maybe some good luck .
50. To #43
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (02.24.08)
I must admit, you're making my day. Jews for Jesus? Ex-Baptist minister? Bread in pans? This is hilarious. I'm not exactly a Georgia Peach and I'm not "elderly." I'm a half-breed Kraut import and I'm down-right old. Those gays, btw, did and do not clean my house. They redecorated it. If I were gay, I'd laugh off my a-- at the thought that I can get under some people's skin with nothing more than my sexual bend. To me, Jews for Jesus is no more or less ridiculous than Jesus for Jews, Islam for everybody, or whatever else is being peddled. Name one "revealed" religion and you won't need my tb's. They'll provide you with all the fantasies to ponder for the rest of your life. That's my opinion to which, the last time I looked, I am most certainly entitled. As for my being a lousy cook, it only took a couple of bad culinary concoctions to establish that reputation which, as it turns out, is very much to my advantage. My kids and friends are so afraid that I might invite them for one holiday dinner or the other, they beat me to the punch weeks ahead of time. I don't mess up their houses nearly as much as bunches of them would turn mine upside down. After all, when the commotion starts to get on my nerves, I can pack up and go home, whereas I couldn't very well throw out invited guests. So you see, dear Josh, there is a method to my madness. I don't have a clue how to develop that, but a sense of humor would do you some good.

56. To #54
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (02.25.08)
Is that a living, breathing montage of paranoid schizophrenia, a frontal lobotomy gone totally wrong, a modern addition to the 10 plagues, or is the use of PC's now being tried to cure rabies? I only hope it's not running rampant in the general population. Whatever it is, I wonder if it was born with a user manual or if "Humans as Dummies" was stuck to its rear end, both of which obviously have never been read. Maybe they were used for house-breaking this mutation who promptly ate every last page which is why it's full of s--t.. BTW, other then being around since the Dead Sea was still healthy, being me isnt' too bad. Actually, it's a hoot most of the time. :-)
57. M Hartley
charles ,   petach tikva   (02.25.08)
It's not only a lack of comprehension , it's a lack of everything normal persons have . You have a "common" point with him/her . Both of you make us laugh , but you with your great humor , he/she with his/her stupidities .
58. Charles has another friend - himself again

Stop with the bogus posts and cross complimenting. No one believes it! "great humor " OK, that is laughable just like your lame attempts to instigate people. And for crying out loud, take you finger out of your nose and wash your hands. There is some cosmic humor in your posting about intelligence under yet another alias post. Abpaqcharinmonmartly! Ab-paq-cha-rin-mon-martly (Able paqid charles kerin simon and m hartley)
59. The complimentary posters
Josh   (02.26.08)
You might venture a bit on explaining why it was you stole the lolly from your imaginary twin that appears by your side when you bow down to the plastic glow in the dark jesus. While you kneel in the crusted dirt you tracked in from the last time you dug for worms because you have no one to play with.. How you like to pray to Jesus and Darth Vader. The ones who graces the metal rack above your polished brown wing tips and next to the campfire medals you may or may not have stolen, from your sister's jewelry box when you were 11. We all cross our arms and sit back with disbelief as you slap out imagery like watered down white wash. To thin an flimsy to have much if any effect. Something or another that you cooked up while the shiny white egg timer was ticking towards that ever so exciting moment when it goes "ding" and you applaud wildly above your snorting laughter while banging your open palms on the green pasta strainer. #56 & #54 So do you venture to have us believing you have been around since the Dead Sea was still healthy as you posted? Scary thought – Not! Nice try. Was it in your never ending day dreams that you thought you saw yourself standing at the door of lot pushing and shoving through the crowd? Groping at the door and standing on your toes as you pushed just before the blinding light struck you back on your heals and confounded the collective effort? Wake up. You still in the closet at mommy's house and at 46 thats awfully old to be playing in the closet. Or are you? Oh wait, here comes the nurse with your medication. Everything is going to be all right.
60. Demonisation of the religious?
Steve ,   London, UK   (02.26.08)
American Jew, you have the good fortune to live in a country where the religious cannot impose their religious beliefs on you by legislating their morality. In Britain orthodox/conservative religious groups across the theological spectrum have spent many decades using their power in Parliament, the Judiciary and the Police to deny basic rights for homosexuals which the religious taken as given for themselves. My own church taught me at school that a single act of sodomy was a graver evil in God's eyes than killing dozens of people. Every attempt to give gays the right not to be routinely discriminated against have been vigourously opposed by the religious. Those opposing such opinions, where they exist, have kept a remarkably low profile, to the point of virtual invisibility. Meanwhile religious Police officers, members of the judiciary and nurses have been demanding the right to refuse to work with or provide services to, people with a homosexual orientation. In a recent survey for the Nursing Times, some 40% of nurses of faith, openly admitted to providing inferior treatment to gay patients in Britain. I am willing to concede that not all the religious are bigots with an eliminationist agenda towards gays, but if those holding contrary opinions are anything but a tiny minority, why are they almost silent when their co-theists publicly advocate burning gays, hanging us from lamp posts, stoning us, pushing us off tall buildings, etc or arguing that when we are assaulted in the street or killed, that we have brought it upon ourselves?
