31. As if Russia really gives a damn about any kind of Arab
Judith, Haifa   (03.21.08)
Notice how quickly the Russians turned up after Merkel's and USA officials visits to the region? Lavrov rushed over here all puffed up so that nobody forgets who the real thugs are. They're just giving a loud reminder to Merkel and Bush to shove off and get off their turf . Russia wants to rule the world and there are all this power games going on between the major powers in the world, about who calls the shots. Russia wants to show the Arabs that they are in control so they tell Israel what to do and the Arabs clap in delight not realizing the role they are playing. I have no doubt though, that Israel understands fully the rules of the game and knows how to play well. So let's not get all steamed up over nothing.
32. #21, there s som right in your comment, New Plan
Simon Mohammed ,   Falls Church, VA USA   (03.21.08)
the suggestion that if you differ in the opinion you are accused is very selfesh. Saying that and we are talking about the peace solution 1- why don't they build in the internationaly accepted land The state of Israel 2- the Palestinian have the right to use any help to build their area too 3- the area that is under negociation can be built togother and call on people from booth side who have the desire to live togother build togother. it is so simple, please be pragmatic and decrese the political ideological calls. and accusing the whole word one after one is not gonna work. good luck
33. What Larov wants...only political gain

34. #21 Johan - your vision is limited
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.21.08)
Not all criticism is honest or productive. In the case of Russia this is the case. I understand that there are those that will defend Israel's actions against any criticism, just as there are those that will turn a blind eye to any of Israel's concerns. I wouldn't label someone anti-semetic for criticising us, but I am suspicious of those that are wholly one-sided on this issue. Further points: * I'm aware that not all of our critics are blind to our problems. I've already stressed my pro-German leanings here, so not everyone is our enemy. * The Holocaust is not the issue here. Who keeps "playing" that card? There are plenty of current issues to worry about: the blood libel circulated in Russia; the bombardment of Sderot; weapons smuggling into Gaza; the Swiss undermining efforts to put pressure on Iran; etc. * I think it would help if some of our critics try acknowledge some of our current problems, and not turn a blind eye to failed commitments made to Israel. Why would you respond to a knee-jerk talkback (#2) when there are more meaty posts iterating the same idea (#3,5,8,12,14)?
35. russian diplomacy
steve ,   london, england   (03.21.08)
Lavrov has done nothing to improve the situation of Palestinians or Israelis. He is another in a long line of diplomats from other parts of the world who seeks to increase his own image only. Russians have lots of Israeli and Arab blood on their hands and this generation of Russian leaders have done nothing to correct the sins of their fathers. Russia is run by gangsters for gangsters and their manipulation of international feeling is self seeking. They will do anything to make money out of a situation and the Israel-Palestine conflict is a prime example. Their economy will fall the greatest victim of the coming world financial revolution.

37. #21 - broad brush strokes and generalizations don't cut it .
redmike ,   London, LA and TA   (03.21.08)
“Considering that no country in the entire world supports Israel's occupation of Palestinian lands”. Which ‘lands’ are you referring to? All of Israel perhaps ? “All major countries have now demanded a halt to Israel’s illegal settlement activity”. Is building in towns that will remain Israeli to be considerd ‘settlement activity’ ? Mike
38. #29 Thomas- Jewish Call for an Economic War in 1933 was real
Johan Odin ,   Oslow, Norway   (03.22.08)
History records the fact that indeed the American Jewish Congress led by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise decided on March 12, 19333 to hold rallies on March 27, 1933 in 70+ cities in the USA, including New York (broadcast worldwide) and Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Cleveland etc. as detailed below. http://www.ajhs.org/publications/chapters/chapter.cfm?documentID=230 The ACJ's boycott of course inflamed hatred against Jews in Germany, and five days after the ACJ's calls to destroy Germany economically. Pease note that Germany’s Jews were not asked their opinion by Rabbi Wise’s prior to the ACJ’s calls to destroy the economy of their country although it was their livelihood and safety that was put on the line. Germany responded by calling for the boycott of Jewish businesses in Germany on April 1, 1933. Those two events in my opinion were in effect the first shots in a war between Germans and Jews that eventually ended up becoming what is known today as the Holocaust, and I do wonder what would have happened had the ACJ shown more restraint.
39. #37 Mike - Simple answer Mike
Johan Odin ,   Oslo, Norway   (03.22.08)
"Which ‘lands’ are you referring to? " Land beyond the 1949 armatice line that was occupiedby Israel in 1967. "All of Israel perhaps ?" Of course not! "Is building in towns that will remain Israeli to be considerd ‘settlement activity’ ? " Absolutely because until the peace treaty is finalized it is not known whether any Paletinian land beyond the Green line will given to Isarel as part of possible land swaps agreements, and it is possible that it could be none at all as they may be needed to house returning Paletsinian refugees should Israel not honor their right of return.
40. Has it been fun up until now knowing
Che Vive ,   Ghetto Beach, U.S.A.   (03.22.08)
that your nation's been a pawn on the winning side in the Cold War battlefield of the Mideast? That with U.S. supremacy comes your own invulnerability? Well, the Russians are signalling more each day that the game's not over in the Mideast or anywhere else. You should have told the Russians and Americans decades ago that you wouldn't be their pawns, and you still can by making peace with the Arabs, but if you don't you may find some rough times ahead as U.S. strength wanes and Russian influence grows. You, Israel are for us what Afghanistan was for the Soviets. All they need to do is fund and arm your and our enemies, and they can bleed our economy to death while the Arabs provide the cannon fodder. You may soon see more than Russian Grad rockets in your back yards. Make peace NOW.

44. # 38 Did You Read the Article YOU Posted?
Thomas   (03.22.08)
"In late January 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of the German Reich. Immediately, members of Hitler’s Nazi Party began a campaign of violence against German Jews, socialists, communists and other Nazi opponents. Germany’s Jewish Central Association (Verein) issued a statement asserting its belief that "the responsible government authorities are unaware of the threatening situation" and that the Verein had thus "dutifully apprised [the Hitler administration] thereof." The Verein’s statement concluded, "We do not believe our German-fellow citizens will let themselves be carried away into committing excesses against the Jews." As early as 1933, however, Stephen S. Wise, founder of the American Jewish Congress, seemed to know better. The Central Verein’s appeals did nothing to stop the terror against Jewish businesses. Stink bombs, picketing and shopper harassment by Nazi Party thugs continued for several days in Magdeburg, Essen, Kassel and Berlin. Herman Goering announced, "I shall employ the police, and without mercy, wherever German people are hurt, but I refuse to turn the police into a guard for Jewish stores." That was the cause of the American Jewish protests. You make it sound as if the Nazis had been doing nothing wrong before the protests or what the German government was doing didn't warrant any kind of negative response.
45. The Russians are back !
Jean Van Daem   (03.22.08)
The PLO was the KGB’s most enduring achievement. As Ion Mihai Pacepa, onetime director of the Romanian espionage service (DIE), later explained, the PLO was conceived at a time when the KGB was creating “liberation front” organizations throughout the Third world. Others included the National Liberation Army of Bolivia, created in 1964 with help from Ernesto “Che” Guevara, and the National Liberation Army of Colombia, created in 1965 with help from Fidel Castro. But the PLO was the KGB’s most enduring achievement as described at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2008/02/communist-roots-of-palestinian_342.html
