Just a few facts and questions for you to reflect on: Starting from late middle ages and up to WWII Poland had the largest Jewish population in the world. Why would the Jews immigrate to the supposedly most-Jew-hating country? When Poland was occupied by Prussia, Austria and (mostly) Russia (1795-1918) the situation of Jews quickly worsened. Russian government had harsh measures against Jews, e.g. banning them from "Russia proper". How possible, if you claim Poles were the biggest Jew-haters? Only in occupied Poland the Germans introduced death punishment for helping the Jews. And not just death for the "perpetrator", but for the whole household. Now, why would they do that, if there would be "enthusiastic help" from Poles? Polish resistance's reports on the atrocities of German death camps were ignored by the Americans, despite being delivered directly to Roosevelt. Also ignored by the leaders of American Jewry. Why was it more convenient for them to disbelieve? (look up: Jozef Karski) And why it is now that American Jews accuse Poles of antisemitism much more often than Israelis? Due to the war Poland lost about 6mil people (half of them Jews) out of 35mil. Despite being the first to militarily oppose Nazi Germany, Poland was betrayed by the western Allies and also lost half of its pre-war territory to the Soviet Union (received some land in the west, in German territories thoroughly pillaged by the Red Army). The country was devastated by Germans and Soviets and whatever was left was used to rebuild. Also, Poland never received proper compensation for war losses. Why now Poland should pay back for whatever Jewish property Germans took/destroyed? I think that this is a great start for Israeli-Polish /Polish-Israeli relations and an opportunity to go forward like with Germany. Jewish-Polish relations go back a long way and are extremely complicated, entwined with the twists and turns of Polish history. I've been living here for nearly 4 years and, yes, there are surely places where it's inadvisable to wear a yarmulka. However, most people I've met here are really fine and far from anti-semitic... Don't forget that the Nazis also wiped out 3 million Poles, many from the inteligensia - doctors, lawyers etc . And, yes, there are probably quite a few anti-semitic yokels with a drink problem that need to blame - why not us Jews? for their failure. The Jewish-Polish issue is really, really complex ...but hey,.....this is a great opportunity to go forward, to forgive and not forget and get a life!

Poland was attacked by the some Nazis in 1939. Soon after Poles with Nazi help build concentration camps like Auschwitz were they murdered Jews. Nazi Poles also established Ghettos were they kept all the Jews before sending them to the Polish Death Camps. Jews who survived the war were soon killed by Poles simply for trying to get their property back. Whoever was lucky to survived post war massive pogroms and killings left for Israel or America. Now Polish government is refusing to return Jewish property stolen by the Polish Nazis meanwhile every other Polish citizen was able to get back their property plus 50 million dollars cash compensations. There are Poles who dislike Jews, and there are Jews who dislike Poles. But the examples you refer to, from your discussions in this Polish forum... I had a look at just a few posts. Well, if *any* disagreement on policy or criticizing of Israel or Jews is antisemitic, *then* you are right calling them antisemites. In this case, how do you call the claims and insults as voiced here, by #2, 5, 8, 10, 16, 26? Are they antipolonism and anti-Polish propaganda, or is there no such thing? As to helpers vs. denouncers during the Holocaust: in an occupied country, ruled mercilessly by Nazi Germans, it usually took a whole network of courageous people (plus a passive goodwill of the whole community) to save just one Jew or one Jewish family. Putting at risk whole family of the helper, no less. To denounce them - one evil person was enough. Or even just bad luck... Some Jewish survivors say openly they wouldn't risk their own families to save Poles, had the situation been reversed. And it is very fair of them to admit that. So, please, do not build a false "balance" between the helpers and denouncers.

Some probably do (and vice versa). But generalizations like that help neither side. Unfortunately, too often we get into this spiral of "you hate me!" "no, you hate me!".
