Pink is not a camaflage color unless one is in an area of red soil. Making a distinction between the garments of men in army, defenses, and fortifications occupations from the garments of women will put women at risk as targets perhaps, but a separate uniform for women is common from years past in many countries. It is not like it is something new. Women should not be in those occupations at all, but since the defense of Israel against hundreds, nay more than a billion, Muslims is so vital, having a different camoflage attire for women and asking God to protect them and to understand is a possible solution to the injuction against having women wear the garments of men that is an abomination to the Lord. You may not care about what the Lord likes or dislikes, but since you are HIS people, I suggest a little more respect.

Stupid perverted Rabbi, I think women should dress as immodestly as they want, what matters is how they treat other people. Like what was written by #14 G-d likes nudity, if we hadn't eaten from the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden, we would have all have been naked today, Yeuch imaging this Rabbi giving his speeches in front of his congregation totally naked.

So you are saying that God wants a different camouflage color for women-soldiers' uniform? The difference in cut and design alone won't suffice to the Lord, a difference of color- that what would make it right? And then if it does make the girls an easier target in terms of the uniform color, we compensate that by praying for their protection, did I get that right? Sorry Rivkah, I am like Matan - not wise enough to see you wisdom. P.S. It's not that I don't care what God likes and dislikes, as you say, I just picture God more concerned with things like kindness, love, justice, etc. rather than our small wardrobe details. Those details seemed to be preoccupation of men that bring God into it to make their ideas appear meaningful.

If you examine drawings of Jewish weddings in the 16th - 18th centuries, you can see that the customary dress for brides was pants and a tunic that was above the knees in front and reached the upper calves in the back. The groom, however, wore a long djellabiah type garment. So when did it become forbidden for women to wear pants?

But thank you for the compliment. Not being God, I cannot choose who is shown mercy and who is not. Eitan: I think that if God sees people putting an effort at appeasing the Lord's likes and dislikes, knowing the limitations of Israel's dreadful predicament, the Lord can do the rest. Gideon was told by the Lord to select troops on the basis of how they drank water. Those who kneeled and drank with caution, not putting down their weapons, were selected. Those who put down their weapons and lied down to lap water with their tongues were not selected. A very small army defeated the enemy. But to you that is not wisdom. Faith in doing things God's way if that is possible and expecting God to help has done miracles in wars for Israel. How could Israel have survived 1948, 1967, 1973 and other conflicts without God on their side? Do you realize 1.2 Billion Muslims want Jews dead? They also want Messianic Jews and Christians dead. Talking to the Lord in prayer and discussing what can and what cannot be done in accordance with his will is the supreme love and kindness and justice. In 1948 the Israeli army had men and women as equals in the military. The men were distracted and compromised their missions to protect the women. Having women in combat disrupted male bonding, too. Arabs fought to the death rather than be defeated by Israeli units with women in them. The death rate for the Israeli men was unacceptably high with women in the units, so changes were made IN ACCORDANCE WITH GOD'S WILL and women are now pulled out of combat zones in the IDF although they serve in many capacities in the IDF. There was wisdom in doing things God's way. My suggestion that the camoflage for women's uniforms differ from males is wisdom in my opinion but not in yours. To each his/her own.

I agree with the rabbis that women should not wear pants, but not for the reason they cited. The reason that women should not wear pants is exactly the same reason why men should not wear dresses - it is an abomination to G-d. De 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

It's part of what most would deem "derekh eretz" - the custom of the time and place. And if the good Rabbi doesn't approve, tough. Most traditional Jews today do not neurotically obsess about gender separation or push for the sort of extreme modesty standards described here. It's no wonder so many Israelis are hostile to the rabbinate.

The reason why women are required to dress modestly is to prevent men being aroused by them. Since some of our military draft dodging work shy hareydi men are so innocent and pure of heart they may be tempted by any women regardless of how modestly dressed let them wear blindfolds. You think dresses are for women and trousers are for men, because this is how it was the last 400 years in Europe. At different times in different places that was not the case. Today it isn't. The question “What is modest dress?” when discussed in the Yeshiva as a youthful student was defined as “modesty is what is normal dress in your community” As we no longer live in a little shatetel cut 0ff from the rest of the world, we must consider the world our community. In this, world women wear pants, so pants are therefore modest. The Haradim are probably using the prohibition against cross-dressing as their basis for their declaration. What is clothing for a specific gender? Pants have become “unisex”. I think the Haradim, in my eyes, are all immodest as they wear bizarre clothing as seen in this day and age and considering our climate.

Women need to follow halacha. They need not go beyond the halacha if they do not wish to. The social morays of eastern Europe of a century ago are not the halacha. They are a particular set of narrow customs that never applied to the Jewish people as a whole.Even R' Kagan in his mishna berurah notes this when discussing modesty. They're fine if an individual wishes to follow them, but far from necessary. God is not offended by a woman who follows halacha. And a woman in sweat pants in the privacy of her own home is following halacha. She need no be concerned that she is being immodest. Indeed, our shulchan aruch teaches us that a woman in her own home is not required to cover her hair unless there are male guests and her husband asks her to. The halacha determines what is and isn't mdoest - not personal stringencies. God's sensibilities are in line with the halacha - not personal mores.

How you dress does factor into how you treat people. You are a part of a society and people are exposed to you - and to what you expose. We are all human, we all have natural, healthy appetites, we all are affected by what we see. Not all of us want to be exposed to a constant barrage of skin and jiggly bits. We are but mortal men [and woman] and no one is iron. Provide enough heat and people melt. Its not fair to do that to people. What's more, there is also a question of how you treat yourself. While a certain satisfaction at being attractive is normal, women who parade it for all to see are like men who walk around flexing their arms and pecs for people - they need to work on respecting themselves. What's more, allure and mystery has more power that putting it on a billboard. A chic, elegant woman who values her wares and makes them a commodity has more appeal than a woman who sells it on the cheap - or just gives the world a free show. Exclusivity is sexy. Its worth should be commensurate with the effort needed to obtain it.

For many generations, Yemenite women wore pants, while the men wore long tunics. When they made aliyah, the Israelis gave them what the Yemenites considered the clothing of the opposite gender.
