31. ToS #22 one question
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.30.08)
How many students did England allow in from Germany to travel to say Ireland to study during World War II? Please answer that question. Listen carefully - we are a sovereign nation. As such we decide who can enter our country and who can not. Not you, not the EU, not the UN, and not even the US. Don't like it too bad. We have no obligations to do anything for people that are at war with us, or not at war for that matter. It is our country. Frankly that moron Tutu managed enter Gaza from Egypt, but the students aren't allowed to leave from the same border, why? Do you ever complain about the Egyptian treatment of the Gaza population? Enlighten us
32. Another Propaganda article by AP
JAy3 ,   Israel   (05.30.08)
Its obvious she can go through the Egyptian border. Its also obvious that America is an enemy of Hamass, so why would they allow her to leave Gazza. Just more propaganda lies perpetrated by Associated press. WHy does YNet print obvious lies?
33. Comp. Engr? Is She Studying for Cyber Terrorism?

38. #35, actually it was Jordan
Danny   (05.30.08)
and the US didn't let Castro study in Harvard in the early 50s but the french let Pol Pot study in Paris. What's the moral of the story then?
39. What happened via Egypt
D ,   USA   (05.30.08)
Why won't they just go through Egypt? Maybe it's Hamas who's not allowing them. Hamas hates the US, remember? Everything is blamed on Israel!
40. Fullbright Scholarship for Shalit, please
Ovadia Salama ,   New York   (05.30.08)
Why don't the US grant Shalit a Fullbright Scholarship, and request Hamas to give him an Exit Visa to go study abroad? Americans must understand that they cannot demand a double standard from Israel, neither on this nor on any other matter. Ovadia Salama. Ph.D

via the Rafah crossing. Is this another media fabrication? I think it is.
43. US grants canceled for 7 Gaza students
Aaron Humes ,   Atlanta, USA   (05.31.08)
Kudos to our Israeli friends! Thanks to their resolve, my own country is now seeing the fact that an American education is not a global entitlement. It is a privilege. SEVIS - a visiting student visa system - still fails to protect against terrorists gaining US entry in the pretense of a student visa. Fortuneately, we're lucky to have Israeli realists to help during this time. Aaron Humes
44. Israel decide for the US
sabra   (05.31.08)
cose they dont know where to spend there mony it must be given to the democratic Israel or spend on war in Iraq ... US are not enght mature to decide . there real interest is and must be decided in Tel Aviv

46. WHO CARES ABOUT GAZA. LET THEM ROT!
hymie zoltsveis ,   NYC, NY, USA   (05.31.08)
Let Gaza act like a nation, rather than Murder, Inc. Let Israel get some REAL LEADERSHIP, and UNLEASH THE IDF. If Gaza rots---GOOD---they deserve it. Give them NOTHING but shovels and wood for coffins. They are a virulent enemy.
47. THE ONLY WAY TO END THE CONFLICT...
Rori ,   Tel Aviv   (05.31.08)
is thru education. Educated Palestinians will not support groups like Hamas. Take away that hope....and this is what you get. Our government should be ashamed of depriving these deserving students. Will anyone be surprised if we hear of one of them strapping on a bomb next year and killing more Jews?
48. Stop education before it leads to peace..
Sean ,   Montreal, Quebec   (05.31.08)
If such things were expressed about Jewish people in my country the way so many sociopaths on this site refer to Palestinians, one would be arrested for inciting hatred. Here, however, people find comfort in the deprivation of an education to young people justifying their hatred by suggesting that everyone who lives within the prison called Gaza is a terrorist. Such people should consider themselves lucky that the rest of the world does not look upon the Jews of Israel with the same mean spirited and soulless disregard exhibited in these posts.Putting things in historical perspective, it is understandable how you have become so filled with hate. But it doesn't make it right.

50. #6 Because there is a differenct between wisdom and brains.
Stewart ,   USA   (05.31.08)
The British accademics only have the latter.
51. Hey 47, Palestinians are among the most educated Arabs in...
Stewart ,   USA   (05.31.08)
the Mid East, AND THEY STILL CHOSE HAMAS. Al Wadi Haig got a great education in Chemical Enginering here at ULL in the USA, and he blew up the embasy in Kenya. Didn't Dr. Mengela have a great education. IT TAKES A LOT MORE THAN AN ACADEMIC EDUCATION TO ACT LIKE A HUMAN BEING. Try a decent culture for starters.
52.  #20 Rivkah et al
Sean ,   Montreal, Quebec   (05.31.08)
"Now they are being punished. How sad." And what dear did YOU learn from Shoah? Change the year and the setting. Let us say Warsaw the middle of the last century. Your understanding and compassion in this situation could well have been expressed by some middle class Aryan regarding the inhabitants of the ghetto. Your bigotry is stale and unoriginal. The former masters of your ancestors would no doubt be pleased but I doubt your ancestors would. You see Rivkah when that level of hatred manifests itself in humanity it doesn't care whether its objected target is an innocent Jewish child in Warsaw or a young Palestinian student in Gaza. It cares only to anchor itself in the hearts of people. In your case...it is succeeding. Fight it.
53. #52, it's an exact comparison
Danny   (05.31.08)
because the Jews fought the germans before the holocaust. The Jews killed thousands of german civilians during the holocaust and most of the Jews killed during the holocaust were "actively involved in hostilities when killed". Oh and the percentage of Jews killed was less than 0.15%. You are right it is exactly the same. Palestinians in Gaza are fed this BS day in, day out. What your excuse for your pathetic comparison?
54. #10 after investing the whereabout of Tutu's clothes,
observer   (05.31.08)
it was found that Tutu has already taken them out with him. So, they can't fool their brothers. And, after a second thought, they wouldn't have been able to fool the American consulate in Cairo into getting entry visas. It is their fault they did not get the lesson from Israel.
55. Smart enough not smart enough to leave?
rachel ,   chutz4now   (05.31.08)
BS! Lose the BIG suitcases and whatever else might be in them and catch a tunnel! Better yet...go to the beach and swim!
56. why no universities in Gaza?
petra ,   usa   (05.31.08)
the enemy wants to study in America... Gazas enemy. Why don't they invest in their own future w/ their own universities? Perhaps because they'd rather the 'youth of tomorrow' straps on a suicide bomb than educate them in the first place? No democracy wants future terrorist studying in America, only to have them work on Israels/Americas destruction. An education is not a given to our own citizens, much less to palestinians whose specialty is death to Israelis. Paybacks a bitch!! Also insures Americas safety by making them stay at home and pay the price for their 'society of death'.
57. PR Stunt
PK ,   NYC, US   (05.31.08)
I don't believe this for a second. Knowing what kind of logic-impaired leftists run rampant in our universities, I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was just one big fabricated, sinister, anti-Israel PR stunt.
58. No. 47 Rori
NYC Girl   (05.31.08)
Are you not aware of the fact that among the 9/11 hijackers there were some who had engineering degrees? So don't believe what you hear about the cause of terrorism being poverty and/or a lack of education. There have already been too many instances where that wasn't the case.
59. # 52
(05.31.08)
Do you honestly believe if the Nazis offered the Jews in Warsaw a pace agreement, even one that confined to the Warsaw ghetto, but allowed them to end the "collective punishment", the Jews would say no and then demand their own terms? Did the Jews even bother offering a ceasefire to the Nazis? No, they didn't have guns, bombs, rockets, the World Bank and Arab oil money.
60. Me Thinks Israel Erred On This One
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (05.31.08)
This is an interesting problem, for the Gaza Strip Arabs, Israel and the US. I'm not sure I agree with Israel's policies on this one. Hamastan has gained a major PR victory. It all has to do with just what is Israel's relationship to the Strip and it's inhabitants. Israel vacated the entire area with the disengagement, yet still has this kind of control? Why? Will allowing a few Gazans scholarships increase terrorism? I doubt it. Will they use the oportunity of freedom to badmouth Israel, sure, at every chance. But maybe they will also learn about democracy, first hand and bring it back to their homes. We know Gazans are training in Iran and Syria..so why the fuss over students, with it's obvious downsides? Israel MUST decide it's future course with the Pals, in both the Strip and W. Bk, sooner or later. This was a chance Israel messed up, typically. I think Condi is right this time around, atypical for her.
