The air missions led by Israel against Lebanon were undertaken in the defense of national boundaries, under present attack, with care to avoid civilian casualties. The air missions were limited in scope, with a fundamental goal of reaching a status of peace and coexistence. Whether or not this goal was reached, it cannot be argued that the intentions of the bombing raids was anything other than reaching a possibility of peace in the North. Kuntar's home invasion had no such intention. THere was no effort to avoid casualties. There was a direct assault on a child. There was never a goal of peaceful coexistence. Comparing the acts of a wanton and depraved murder to the precision act of self defense by a nation at war is absurd. The presence of one item of similarity is not remotely helpful in analyzing the whole of the circumstance.

I am an Arab and I believe that Kuntar is a criminal. Killing innocent poeple is not something to be proud of, and is absolutely not a value of Islam, a religion which tells us not to harm plants during wars. What would you think such a religion would preach, then, about killing people? The problem, I think, is that Israelis and Arabs have immense hatred for each other, a hatred so vile that would let Arabs celebrate a murderer just because he opposes Israel. Similarly, your hatred to everything that is Arab and Islamic, an irrational hatred that I see in most talk-backs is just as bad. As long as both sides are filled with anger and hatred, only anger and hatred will guide their actions and sayings. Both sides are bad humans for allowuing hatred to consume them in such a way.
