I'll give you the names of FOUR destroyed Synagogues in old Yeroushalaim , destroyed during the jordanian occupation : the Hurva , Istanbuli , Emtzai and the Raban Yohanan Ben Zakhai Synagogues .
65. Really #1?

You don't really have the moral authority to be throwing around anything. Ever hear of Manifest Destiny? How do you think the United States got to be as big as it did? Ben Gurion never said what you claimed he said, because it's not true. There was no Arab village on the sand dunes where Tel Aviv now stands. You dig under the arab houses, you'll find older Jewish houses. As for your "binational" state, when has that worked? Look at Lebanon, a country in civil war. Look at Bosnia, it never works. Israel was established the same way Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq were established, by UN mandate or given independence from a European country, yet when it comes to Jews, that's not good enough anymore.
66. #64 Jerusalem as Jordan is not the whole Arab world
observer   (08.16.08)
even you have not specified whether those 4 synagogues were "destroyed" before or after the armistice agreements. It was the Arab Muslims who regain the Holy sites from the Crusaders and restores mosques & synagogues ten centuries ago. Do you know why the sacred places should be in Muslims' hands, rather than Jews'? then, read the Recommendations of the American King-Crane Commission of 1919: "With the best possible intentions, it may be doubted whether the Jews could possibly seem to either Christians or Moslems proper guardians of the holy places, or custodians of the Holy Land as a whole. The reason is this: the places which are most sacred to Christians-those having to do with Jesus-and which are also sacred to Moslems, are not only not sacred to Jews, but abhorrent to them. It is simply impossible, under those circumstances, for Moslems and Christians to feel satisfied to have these places in Jewish hands, or under the custody of Jews. There are still other places about which Moslems must have the same feeling. In fact, from this point of view, the Moslems, just because the sacred places of all three religions are sacred to them, have made very naturally much more satisfactory custodians of the holy places than the Jews could be." http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/crane.html
67. The ugly dome!
Nathan Lewis ,   USA   (08.16.08)
I for one cannot wait until the day the dome is gone from the site where the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob once resided in the Holy Temple. Make no mistake that Yeshua will someday restore all things to their original state. He is coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
68. To the great LIAR : observer
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.08)
Most of old Yeroushalaim synagogues were BLOWN up by the jordanians AFTER they occupied the town . Not during the battles . Others were looted and burnt . And those in Gaza , also during war ?

You asked for it, here it is: "After the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem was captured, the destruction, desecration and systematic looting of Jewish sites began and continued. 57 ancient synagogues (the oldest dated to the 13th century), libraries and centers of religious study were ransacked and 12 were totally and deliberately destroyed. Those that remained standing were defaced, used for housing of both people and animals. The city's foremost Jewish shrine, the Western Wall, became a slum. Appeals were made to the United Nations and in the international community to declare the Old City to be an 'open city' and stop this destruction, but there was no response. This condition continued until Jordan lost control of Jerusalem in June 1967. "On the Mount of Olives, the Jordanian Arabs removed 38,000 tombstones from the ancient cemetery and used them as paving stones for roads and as construction material in Jordanian Army camps, including use as latrines. When the area was recaptured by Israel in 1967, graves were found open with the bones scattered. Parts of the cemetery were converted into parking lots, a filling station, and an asphalt road was built to cut through it. The Intercontinental Hotel was built at the top of the cemetery. Sadar Khalil, appointed by the Jordanian government as the official caretaker of the cemetery, built his home on the grounds using the stones robbed from graves. In 1967, the press published extensive photos documenting that Jewish gravestones were found in Jordanian Army camps, such as El Azariya, as well as in Palestinian walkways, steps, bathrooms, and pavement." From: http://palestinefacts.org/pf_1948to1967_holysites.php And this was only in East Jerusalem. Synagogues and cemeteries were destroyed in Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Libya, as well. Buy yourself a new pair of glasses.
73. observer , what did you write in # 34 ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.08)
A bad memory is the worst for a LIAR .
74. Observer
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.08)
They were destroyed by the jordanians , not important if before or after armistice agreements . Yeroushalaim was unther jordanian occupation , and the synagogues were BLOWN up or burnt . And even if Jordan is not the whole arab world , it is representative of their behaviour anywhere Regarding the control of the holy places , they are all unther control of their religious leaders . Israel does'nt mix itself in their internal problems and fights .
75. observer , muslim control of Holy places ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.08)
When Yeroushalaim was unther jordanian control , Jews were not allowed to visit their Holy places . In 1929 , arabs murdered 60 + Hebron Jews only for the reason that they wanted to pray at the Western Wall . Today all peacefull worshippers have acces to their holy places .
76. Al Aqsa & Qoubbah El Sakhrah
Abdallah Islam ,   WW   (08.16.08)
As a matter of fact all who will have a direct or indirect participation on such s scheme will be themeselves obliterated, and that is a fact it will culminate in the "Vernichtung" of all zionism in Palestine & the World.
77. I'm baaack
Terry ,   Chicago, IL   (08.16.08)
Never did I imagine such an intense response to such a factually correct, coherent, and supposedly uncontroversial statement. Yet again, no one said Yediot Ahronot readers were smart. Here is a direct quote from mi amigo Moshe Dayan regarding Israel's roots in history (Dayan, for the silent observers, was a leading military and political figure in Israel from the '50s to the '70s). It goes something like (and this is a direct quote): "We came to a region that was inhabited by Arabs, and we set up a Jewish state (...) You don't even know the names [of the previous Arab villages] and I don't blame you, because those geography books aren't around anymore. Not only the books, the villages aren't around...” I think he's pretty clear on that. The fact that he (and Ben Gurion, earlier) peppered their incredibly incriminating statements with misleading additions does not- and should not- diminish the importance of such claims. Only when Israelis realize that "God's promise" has no moral basis in the civilized world will they begin to accept peace and coexistence. The Muslims believe that it is a religious duty to safeguard both the Al Aqsa mosque and the Temple Mount. Does that mean that they are "entitled' to live in Biblical Palestine as well? Do the Christian claims to Nazareth and the Church of Nativity (among other sites) 'entitle' them to settle there? Because the way I see it, the only way the Jews have been able to rationalize it is by having very, very small numbers which makes their claims pseudo realistic. God forbid having 3.6 Billion more people there because of lunatic claims of 'religious entitlement'. The Indians in the reservations- for the most part- ran away like scurried animals. They, as opposed to the Palestinians, did accept a "solution" and here they are with all that casino money and no dignity. That is the settlement you are proposing to the Palestinians, and they should never accept it. On a very last note, "Palestinians" have been identified as a distinct, separate people ever since Salahuddine al-Ayubi (hope I got that right) regained Jerusalem in the mid 1200's. The "generic" Arabs were actually there for longer- way after the Jews evacuated and abandoned it- we're talking near Constantine's times. The fact that they were Christian Arab shouldn't matter. What does is that the Jews left for a better life elsewhere and suddenly, THOUSANDS of years later, remembered that they were 'entitled' to it. Would you accept that the Palestinian refugees go on, live, build lives, and become economic stalwarts, only to come back in dozens- remember, not thousands- of years to reclaim what they left? That's why the Palestinians are so adamantly attached to the Right of Return and do not want to be assimilated. They, for a change, actually know the moral depravity of submitting to another only to come back and fight another day.
78. Temple mount is Jewish
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.16.08)
Muslims have traditionally acknowledged that the Temple mount is Holy to the Jews ...see the full article at : http:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Temple_mount

Chris ,   Chicago, IL   (08.17.08)
Terry. Fax your resume over to Hamas or Hezbollah headquarters if you'rs seeking employment in the Jew-hating, historically revisionist, terrorist media machine. Otherwise, keep your distorted history and lies to yourself. Anybody can re-write history for their own political agenda. Just because you can put an english sentence together certainly doesn't make you smart. In fact, you're just another stupid anti-semite dressed up as an 'anti-zionist' for halloween. If you don't wake up tomorrow, the world will be a better place. Here's to a great night sleep.
80. Earthquake zone
leo ,   NY   (08.17.08)
In 1967 when the Western Wall and the Temple mount were liberated, it was mentioned that perhaps the Muslim temples should be obliterated. The Head Rabbi said not to worry. The area was earthquake prone and that G-D would take care of the problem. So in our lifetime there will be a rebuiding of the Jewish Temple.

"On a very last note, "Palestinians" have been identified as a distinct, separate people ever since Salahuddine al-Ayubi (hope I got that right) regained Jerusalem in the mid 1200's. " Not true at all. There's no Palestinian language, folklore, cuisine, historical cities...anything that makes them unique or even a nation. That you say Jews left Israel for a better life and that the Native Americans scurried away to their reservations just shows you're not above twisting history.
83. #31 - Stupid - now who ?
