The most striking thing is that these same rabbis don't ask the Jewish community to avoid the mudslinging, Lashon Hara, innuendoes and guilt by association the Left in this country likes to pour out on President Bush. Lashon Hara is Lashon Hara, regardless of its target. Then again, as Reform Jews, Halacha isn't binding and Reform rabbis really have no authority to ask Reform Jews not to engage in Lashon Hara. Let's also remember that many of the signatories on the letter lead lifestyles that are in direct violation of Halacha. To draw an analogy here, this is like a rabbi who publicly eats cheeseburgers telling his congregation to keep kosher! This whole letter just smells of hypocrisy and double standards.

As for the women, most of them are Reform (maybe Conversative too) and many are lesbians. I wouldn't support anyone they support!! To #20 Eynav in NYC: I've seen photos of Barack Obama's father and he certainly looked African to me. He was very black, and not at all semitic looking. Maybe by Arab, you mean Muslim.

Unfortunately we only have 2 choices. I'm not sure that I'll vote for Obama/Biden, but I know that I can't vote for McCain/Palin. Take Palin for example, she says that the troops were sent into Iraq as a task from G-d. Her old pastor said that people who criticized Bush would be sent to hell, that Jesus operated from that position of war mode, and that brought up idea fighting in the name of G-d in a holy war. It all sounds so violent. I'm an Evangelical and I don't agree with this. For the first 300 years there were no Christians in the military and we've never really completely gotten along with governments, let alone thought that they were infallable or something. We need more choices.

This may be why we may need a different party in office. From more the Evangelical perspective, we've had Republicans in office that could not be criticized for 8 long years. I do not think that this is healthy or even biblical either (how come only one of the partys?). At least if we get someone else things might be more real and we might be able to speak out when things bother us. It should be we the people again.

Bush and the Republicans could not be criticized? The most hateful and withering attacks have come from the Peace and Love and (The Right Kind of) Diversity Left. I have witnessed the most hatred ever on the US political scene during the last 8 years, and it was leveled at the Right. Even Nixon didn't catch it this badly.

In this, Christians have been told that it is a biblical mandate not to criticize a President who is in office because of interpretation of some of the bible verses. (I need more proof and there are perhaps other verses involved so I'm in the middle of researching this topic more. Even if this is so, there is a loophole in that you should obey G-d rather than man, so when the two contradict each other, this wins out) Towards the end of current term of 8 years it's become harder to maintain these ideas. I did see that the one church that I mentioned before has tried to make ammends and has downgraded this category. Overall since so much is expected from the people and since we have such a great leader in Jesus, we may also be looking for an American President who will also be a little bit similiar and are wanting them to be exceptional. It's a goal.
