We have had the wonderful opportunity to have this person who has great influence on Muslims, come and speak about the importance of peace. Whether you agree with Stevens' (or the Peres center for Peace's) positions or not, this could've made wonderful public relations among Europeans and Arabs, who normally receive only negative coverage on our country. Surely nothing wrong can come out of that! And yet again, our stupid leaders blew it.

Israel also thought the Beatles were a threat! He was denied entry into the US because he was on a "no fly list". All kinds of people have been found to be on this list that don't belong on it. It's notorious here. He also successfully sued a newspaper that claimed that he supported terriorism and got an apology from them. He's not perfect but he's internationally recognized as a man of peace. Israel just becomes more and more pathetic!

Back in the good old days before he was cat Stevens and Yusuf Islam ,he was a regular Roman Catholic schoolboy.I used to bully him ,or was it the other way around? can't remember.Anyway ,he was a nice kid.

Don't think about it; just believe the smear... It becomes most salient in situations such as these that Israeli authorities don't want a highly publicized Islamic figurehead contributing to overtures of peace. Other that security concerns that might threaten Cat Stevens from right wing nutcases, the prohibition is in place only because he represents a threat to the official nationalist doctrine (Arabs are baaad). Unfortunately, this is a missed opportunity to constructively develop genuine expression to the discussion of peace.

I, too, was a fan of Cat Stevens' music back in the 1970s. I even knew Jews who took pleasure in the rumor that his real name was Steven Katz. Which, of course, is not true. That said, I think Israel - like the US - is right to reject his presence. Even beyond his earlier support for terror groups, he remains a propagandist for Islam. And Islam's idea of "peace" is peace under Islam. We reject that completely.
