This article puts it very clearly the choice that Israel has to make when it starts this operation. By necessity, it must first secure the lives and lot of Israelis living in the South. It's only the duty. The Gaza pullout was a big mistake that we have been paying for the last few years since. We continue to pay for it because here we are going back into Gaza to clean it up. The leadership should ask itself when doing anything requiring "evacuation": Will we need to return there in a few years because things got out of hand?

I have to tell you, that 1.) Gaza was occupied in the first place through wars against Arabs which where instigated by the latter. We did take Gaza 40 years ago, but you have forgotten the following facts: We suffered terror attacks from Gaza for eight years (from 1948 to 1956) before we ever set foot in it. We conquered it in 1967 after the Egyptians forced the UN (which had been stationed in Gaza since 1956, to withdraw and prepared to attack us. We then spent the next forty years trying to exchange the land we conquered for peace, but for thirty years the Palestinians refused to make treaties with us and for ten more broke every treaty they made. We finally withdrew from Gaza without making any treaties just as a show of good-will, which has since been answered with five thousand rockets. The only gesture of good-will the Palestinians ever made toward us is to temporarily stop trying to kill us. They sure have been nice neighbors.

I think this is one of the best written articales that i have read in a while. It is true Israel not only has a right but also has a duty to portect its citizins before having to portect the citzins of Gaza. it is unfortunate that there will be civilian casualtys in the middle and no one wants that exept i think hamas because they are the ones that are putting them in this danger. The Arabs can live a great life with the Jews side by side if there wasnt this hatred that hamas and every terror group puts into there citzins to hate Israel . I live with Arabs side by side and i work with them and we live a normal life as civilzed people and we have no problems with each other the only diffrince is they do not listen to hamas.

In this war there are no innocents, all are guilty. The arabs because they don't care about their own people that are suffering at Gaza Strip and West Bank. And the Israelis because they use desproportional force to strike terror targets, with no care with the arab civilians.

While the world accepted Israel as a legitimate Jewish-majority country the Arab world never did and certainly the Palestinians never did. Consequently,Arabs have never stopped attacking Israel (occupied territories or not) The only successful way to get Arab countries to stop attacking has been with a LARGE bombardment. This includes Hezbollah and Lebanon. The small retaliations are just brushed off by the Palestinians.
