Estimates (good, reliable ones) are at least 900 Palestinians killed. If IDF says 300 of these were fighters, then 600 must have been civilians, correct?

They have learned you need to do as much as possible from the air and artillery so that any troops within the urban environment are there for mop up. The IDF and US took heavy casualties when going from door to door with active fighters in it. They have the upper hand when it comes to their own homes, so they are taking their time. This is why we aren't rushing in. That only happens in the movies. With a sustained effort and careful planning they will root out what is left of Hamas, and destroy their tunnels and weapons stores. I think the 20,000 fighters is a myth. They might have had 20,000 supporters but when it came time to stand up and fight most ran and ran fast the other direction. Hizballah knows this as well, and also saw that even a botched war can be painful. Israel on its worst day can inflict massive damage. The EU Arab community is up in arms but they are nuts. Ask them why they aren't living in Gaza or Iran and they won't give you are straight answer. It is because it sucks. Women would loose their freedoms and it is an economic and social disaster. The Arab leaders are giving lip service and "pushing" for a cease fire. It won't happen till they are sure Hamas is crushed into oblivion. We are doing Abbas a favor and he knows it. Read the article moron. The IDF claims to have killed 300 Hamas fighters since the ground incursion began. The figure has nothing to do with the Hamas fighters that have been killed by IAF airstrikes.

The time to "make Hamas realize....." is past-it's no time for lessons anymore. Hamas had plenty of time to show what it wanted, and they showed with the continuous rocket barrage they wanted war. Israel has to clean up Gaza as much as possible, and ignore the world's talking heads who each make their pompous statements about ceasefire, like THEY know what's good for Israel. None of them has offered to sleep for a week in a house in Sderot or Ashkelon though. They all try to prove how important and how effective they are on the back of Israel, because their own countries are mired in financial scandals and increasing population dissatisfaction. They're all first and foremost serve their own purposes when they call for a ceasefire, like keeping their Arab populations quiet. Israel has fought with one hand tied behind its back for too long, and that has emboldened Hamas. It's time for reality now, on the battlefield, not on the TV screens and conference tables.

The Al Mezan Center released figures of somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 Hamas killed, maybe less, and 700 civilians killed. The Al Mezan Center is accurate and conservative.
