14. #5, because Abraham wasn't yet Jewish
Ephraim ,   NYC/Kfar Tapuah   (02.10.09)
THe forefathers didn't follow the laws because Torah was only given later.
15. Mike, Abraham operated under pre-Sinai rules
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (02.10.09)
Abraham lived in the days long before "Torah mi'Sinai", so he wasn't bound by laws that hadn't yet been established.
16. Eat drink and be merry
Leah ,   Ramat Gan   (02.10.09)
if anyone is stupid enough to belive some primative superstition that some god who you cant actually see, really cares about what you put in your mouth , then they obviously need help. trouble is they force it on other people.
17. Abraham and Bershit 19
Ben ,   Pennsylvania   (02.10.09)
OK, so Abraham wasn't bound, but what about the visiting angels? Were they not bound either? I think Mike's question is a good one. I always wonder if interpreting the proscription from boiling a calf in it's mother's milk is more about cruelty than dairy and meat. If so, by forcing the one interpretation over the other, we may be missing the real requirement and comitting an avera. At any rates, the seperationrules are interpreted differently all over the world, from the Dutch requiring only 1 hour to eat dairy after meat to the North Africans who boil chicken in milk. Sadly, you will never engage an Orthodox Rabbi in this. To them, it is what it is, just obey. I say, Obey, but ask. If Abraham can Challenge G-d, why can't we challenge rabbis.
18. strictly forbidden
(02.10.09)
segregation of women and men rushing to eat chicken noodles with cheese on Shabbat has to be observed on the other days of the week.
19. #14 where in Torah Moses didn't eat dairy & meat?
observer   (02.10.09)
20. It's about respect for animals
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (02.11.09)
Not cooking a baby animal in its mother's milk. I believe that is the reason for milk-meat separation.
21. What law?
paul malykont ,   los osos, california   (02.11.09)
Where in the Torah are milk and meat forbidden? The only prohibition that's close is the one about not stewing a lamb in its mother's milk. This whole thing was made up much later by the rabbis. Very much like the Christians changing their Shabat to Sunday. Both, I think, are very amusing. Paul
22. 15 - maybe he was justified by faith?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.11.09)
i thought torah was eternal? i thought the talmud says that abraham was given torah and he lived his life in observation of it? i thought abraham was already under god's covenant? i thought the rabbis interpretations superseded the written? i always wondered why god said before sinai that israel would be a "kingdom of priests" but after sinai ended up as a "kingdom with priests". seems like something got messed up somewhere (and i doubt god was the one who messed up). but what do i know?
23. to all those who make fun............
one who loves g-d ,   edan   (02.11.09)
the law came after abraham. g-d really did not want human beings to eat meat. he created these creatures of the earth. but he new that man would eat flesh. so he made some guidelines. i just saw an american program regarding aminals that are closet to human beings. we all know the monkey and dolphine are very close. BUT how many of you know that the pigs are just as close?? i did not....the program was amazing. the pigs takes care of it's babies like mammals it has feelings. it is extremely intelligent. it went on and on about the pigs being like US. WOW maybe G-D has a reason for not wanting us to eat Pigs. Maybe they are not dirty - maybe they are to much like us. Next on the show was about Shrimp. I knew that they clean the ocean but what i did not know is they balance the ocean. if there are no shrimp to clean - the ocean gets to dirty. Wow maybe G-D did not want us to eat shrimp not because they are dirty but because they kept a balance on our eco-system. Science is proving everyday about why G-ds laws are good. G-d in his brillance knew we could not handle what he gave us. So he gave us guidlines. Man took those guidlines and went to extremes. So now we have man both religious and non religious abusing the system. I think g-d knew that this would happen. But then he gave us good and evil and a choose to pick which path we want to take. it is very sad that non religious jews can laugh at a religious jew making a mistake in eating meat and diary just as it is very sad that a religious jew will treat a non religious jew as less then human. G-d should have give us a lot more laws...........................
24. #16 Your problem seems to be
Sarit ,   Givatayim   (02.11.09)
what comes OUT of your mouh. Must be connected to what you put in it. Rest my case.
25. For G-d lover
Jimmy ,   Jerusalem   (02.11.09)
Homo sapiens sapiens and sus domestica are both of the phylum Chordata, and class Mammalia, but that's about as close as you can stretch the comparison between people and pigs. Artiodactyla (even-toed ungulates) first show up in the fossil records around 54 million years ago, while primates pre-date them by around 11 million years. But you'd have to go back even further to find a common ancestor. Whatever documentary you watched was very wrong, or you failed to understand it correctly. It's possible the program you watched was about relative intelligence. Pigs are fairly bright, to be sure, but they're not "close" to humans in either intelligence or biology. Now, with this cleared up, I'm gonna go poke fun at the Talmudiban.
26. Abraham kept kosher
Meir ,   Beit Shemesh   (02.11.09)
Actually what Abraham did was OK. In fact he kept the Torah mitzvot, which Hashem told him. Actually if you look at the text, first they had the butter, and only after they had the meat. This is in line with Torah law, as the waiting time after milk is much shorter than the other way around.
27. Hamodia
Meir ,   Beit Shemesh   (02.11.09)
is run by Ger the same people who brought Nir Barakat to be Mayor of Jerusalem, perhaps they suggested this non-kosher recipe in honor of Barakat or perhaps this is the next step after bringing an irreligious Mayor to Jerusalem, serving non kosher food for Shabbat. Perhaps this is Litzman's innovation! or his favorite dish?
28. 26 Lol...
Moishe   (02.11.09)
That's not what it says, it's what you are trying to make it say. And I suppose you'd also say that Abraham made sure they didn't mix the dairy silverware with the meat dishes and Sarah washed everything in separate kosher streams too, lol. I just LOVE some of these Rabbinic explanations.
29. mmmm, the recipe sounds yummy!!!!!!!!!!!
(02.11.09)
30. In Response to #5
Evan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.11.09)
Because Abraham wasn't bound by Torah law; if you'll notice, they didn't receive the Torah for quite a few more years afterwards.
