I'm a Black Man who really like Israel and Israelis.I hope this is just a russian Phenomen and not some product of the Israeli society.I have white Israeli friends who are very nice. I know not all people are so and I hope that the Israeli government will fight this form of Descrimination.I do'nt want to believ that descrimination exist in Israel . Suggest you read again my commments. I don't think there was any expression of xenophobia in any way, shape, or form. I am, indeed, a critic of Islam the ideology & I think that criticism is entirely justified & supported by quite a bit of evidence. I have never, ever, expressed a dislike of Ethiopians - I judge people as individuals & my limited experience with Ethiopians has left me with a generally favourable impression. I also have quite a few Russian friends. Much of what you are ranting about is more a figment of your imagination rather than what I've been saying. When Ethiopians drop property value (I have no idea why) its called racism but when they drop out of school and make trouble its a "social problem." The Ethiopians are going through what the Moroccans went through in the 1950's. They have a choice and it is entirely up to them. Either they shape up and "sell out." or they misbehave and earn "bad names." Its not an easy choice but its one the Sfaradim, Teimanim, even shkenoyzm had to make in the last 110 years. Its called life. And in the 1990's Ethiopians were as popular as falafel. So its not like they were hated from the beginning.

I am of Russian descent and moved to Israel in 1973 as a child. While you can blame the Russians for this particular incident, my family was forced to move out of Israel because of discrimination by the Israelis in general. My (widowed) mother could not get a steady job, was sexually harrassed, and constantly discriminated against. Yes, we were Jews in the Soviet Union and it was difficult but we were Russians in Israel and that is much more painful coming from your own people. Stop all racism against Jewish people. We are all children of Jacob.

While I have many very good Russian friends in my neighborhood, there are some with residual resentment for having left the Soviet Union and a few have learnt to abuse the system. For example, a “disabled” Russian “immigrant” is given subsidized housing near me and has her Russian friend collect her welfare for her while she continues to live in Russia most of the year. When she is in Canada, she spends her days pining for the superior Russian culture while doing under-the-table translation jobs. When my wife and I convert and move to Israel, I think we will buy in the Ethiopian areas to take advantage of the reduced prices!

In the US this would not be allowed. If authorities found out the people would be charged with discrimination. The owner of my apartment building lost a court case over discrimination against Blacks. I don't know the details of what happened, because we do have blacks living here, but the case might have been from the past. The owner is now extremely careful not to give any impression of discrimination.

I had heard that there was race discrimination in Israel, but I didn't want to believe it. This article has plastered the problem, in big letters, right in front of me. As an American Jew who worked for twenty years to fight discrimination in the workplace, I am ashamed to learn that Israelis are engaging in the same despicable behavior. Sure, there is a tendency in every society to be curious, even uncomfortable with outsiders who all of a sudden become our neighbors, especially when those newcomers are from such a radically different background and who have yet to become familiarized with the modern technology and living habits of Western society. But the moral of the story is that we should help them, not reject them. We are taught in the Torah to welcome the stranger. Every Israeli is a stranger, if you go back a generation or two. And those insiders need to take a good look at themselves, and do the right thing by helping, not rejecting the Ethiopian Jews. The new government, whether it be under Netanyahu or Livni, should take a hard look at American anti-discrimination laws, and rewrite them to fit the needs of Israeli society.

The U.S has that honor. Kad would be much happier in the U.S, and God knows he deserves to be happy with his kind.

Racism is such a huge problem in Russia that noone even speaks about it!! The Russian immigrants brought their personal problems to Israel. This does not reflect ISRAELI society, it reflects RUSSIAN society. Once both these groups become Israelis, then we'll talk.

Who were great neighbours and their house did not affect my street or my values. The things many Israelis say about Ethiopians or anyone not 'White' is just rascist, no excuses. which until VERY recently would not allow Jews to buy a house. Same goes for country clubs. There were also quotas at Ivy League Universities limiting the number of Jews. Now they have other types of quotas which I believe are just as racist.
