2. Goldstein
Gliker ,   po ve sham   (03.03.09)
The good doctor is a pig. There is no person within the Jewish and Zionist circles that should ever speak well of him. Goldstein stands for everything that is wrong and evil.
3. well why was the murderer of the blessed rabbi not prosecute
Ben ,   singapore   (03.03.09)

5. YNET trying to fan the hatred against religious Jews??
m   (03.03.09)
First of all the title--eye catching, then the text--ehh, so, so, not exactly clear cut. Well not exactly politically correct like YNET would like, so there we have a story
6. Anti Jewish Propaganda
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron-Israel   (03.03.09)
The headline is no way describing what Ravi Aviner says, it's just a way of provocation and helping people to hate religious leaders. It is a shame that a professional doesn't know how to make a better job!
7. he was like pinchas "avenging Gods vengence"
(03.03.09)
8. More Arabs you kill .. more holly you are ..
(03.03.09)
This will be the new way to go to Heaven in Israel ..... Imagin if the Germans announced Hitler as saint .... how the Jews will react .... uiiiii .
9. Terrorism is terrorism
Arie ,   BaGolan   (03.03.09)
The only shame is that we don't meet out the same punishment to Arab terrorists!
10. Those were very tough times
Ken Besig ,   Israel   (03.03.09)
In order to understand or villify Dr. Baruch Goldstein's actions one has to understand and to experience the times in which he lived and the events which led up to his actions. It wasn't just the almost Palestinian terror massacres of Israeli civilians that made people so upset, it was the disgusting behavior of the Rabin government which excused the Arab killers and blamed the Jewish victims, especially since it was Rabin himself who armed and granted entry to those killers by way of Oslo. I and my family lived here in Kiryat Arba then, we knew many of the Jewish victims, and I cannot bring myself to negatively judge Dr. Goldstein or his actions that fateful Purim morning. Those times were very disturbing and feelings ran very high, and I hold the Rabin government's indifference to the murder of Jews as directly responsible for Dr. Goldstein's actions.
11. The true story will be revealed
David ,   Israel   (03.03.09)
No one has ever asked why he did it? The Rabin gov't made him out to be insane, but most people have never looked into the circumstances and that investigators had known of warning from the arabs in the area that there would be another pogrom of Jews and because of Oslo Rabin ordered the army to do nothing. Lots were drawn and Baruch Goldstein went in to try to stop them before they had a chance. Investigators found weapon hidden on that side of the holy cave in the Arab area, but the media did not report this. What he did was legitimate. The Realistic Religious Zionism movement (who ever they are) have proven themselves capable to bending Torah for the sake of PR. Learn the facts of the case before commenting.
12. The Palis in the tomb shot him dead. Weapons from where?
Adam ,   Tel Aviv   (03.03.09)
The Muslims had a large weapons cache in the tomb. You do the math.
13. Hypocrisy at its worst
James   (03.03.09)
The man commits a blatant act of terrorism, killing nearly 30 innocent people and yet some people are quick to make excuses saying "times were tough" or "I understand why he did it." And yet the same people refuse to admit that there are reasons that some Palestinian engage in terrorist acts. They refuse to even consider the fact that they may believe themselves to have a grievance or a reason for what they do. I'm sorry, but this is hypocrisy at its absolute worst and thinking like this only propagates the conflict.
14. Baruch Goldstein was a great Jew.
GZ ,   USA   (03.03.09)
The cowardly and shameful policies of the weak Israeli leadership which had failed to protect the Jews pushed a normal Jew like Baruch to the brink. Had Israeli government acted to protect the Jews this wouldn't have happened.
15. Oh, goody, goody, goody...
John ,   Europe   (03.03.09)
So, I dedicated my life to save, for example, Palestinian civilians and take a AK 47 and kill 30 Jewish innocent civilians, and I am a saint. Hell, today antisemites do not have to twist Jewish words anymore. All they need is 5 last Aviner's statements.
16. Of course he is saint for you, Ben, #2...
John ,   Europe   (03.03.09)
Since you are in Singapoure. Most of the Galut Jews are the war mongers who do not want to move their asses in Israel and in front rows. I do not fit the definition since I do not love war and do not think I am a saint. :)
17. A crime is a crime and against Halacha
Smith ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (03.03.09)
I am not religious but I know this basic precept of law. Murder is not justifiable and as Jews living in a Post-Holocaust world we should never, NEVER, rationalize murder, EVER. This is to all those trying to explain the "circumstances" of his murderous actions. Why? Along came some Europeans. They said they had lived on this land 2000-years ago. So they murdered and brutalized and exiled us. This is why we are suicide bombers. Does this rationalization of murder sound familiar? Or how about this one? Germany was in a severe economic depression, and had been humiliated by the Treaty of Versaille. Many Jews, amongst others, managed to prosper during these hard times, and some said at the expense of the German people.... Need I go on??????? Jews do not condone murder. We are not cold blooded killers. And wearing a kippah on your head does not absolve you of sin.
18. iF WE BECOME LIKE THEM WE DO NOT DESERVE THE LAND.
Phil   (03.03.09)
You cannot justify the wanton murder of civilians on the ground of "suffering" or "emotions" etc. That's what the Palis do. If it's a valid excuse for Goldstein, then it's a valid excuse for them too. Aviner crossed the line - he should unequivocally condemn what Goldstein did or we become no better than the Arabs.
19. He IS A Saint While Palestinians Are Terrorists?
World Citizen ,   the world   (03.03.09)
If the average Israeli shares the same opinion as this so-called great rabbi then truly Israel has lost its moral compass and therefore its soul. Nothing good comes from such wickedness. This man should be renounced. He is from the synagogue of Satan.
20. He was a fine person, but crumbled under pressure
Avi ,   New York   (03.03.09)
I knew Baruch as Benjy, when we went to camp and school together as youngsters. He was a fine person even then. For him to have done what he did indicates that he cracked under the terrible pressure felt by him living where he did under the circumstances he did. I do not agree with what he did, but I cannot forget who he had been before it.
21. The Grand Rebbe Of Muder, Theft, & Prostitution
J. Abramoff ,   Zion   (03.03.09)
pontificated, after a very long gaze into his naval, that Dr. Goldstein was infact a secret whore for zion, entrusted with a*Holy mission, to murder as many native people as possible. He is a hero of zion, in the finest tradition of zionist heros, who are miraculously talented at murdering unarmed native civilians, like a fish in barrel. If only he had nukes.
22. JEWISH SAINT??
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (03.03.09)
Saint my foot. The Christians have saints. The reasons for the action then, today are mute. In his mind, he did what he thought was right. Enough of trying change history. He was murdered by those he failed to kill. Let it lay.
23. What did he gain by killing 29 people???
Sam ,   ME   (03.03.09)
I wish the Muslims and the Jews kill each other to extinction to satisfy their bloodthirsty God. Maybe the world will live in peace someday. The good doctor was living in a #@@# settlement (I repeat settlement which is in the heart of the Pali population which was occupied in 67 ) and he was complaining because of the Arab's actions. What ?????
24. A "righteous" murderer ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.03.09)
For me Righteous are SAVING people , not killing them .
25. #12-lol
jerusalem   (03.03.09)
yeah, why didnt them arabs just sit there like normal murderees and get killed the normal way. they should have welcomed him in with flowers and a huge sign that says "i am a plaestinian, please kill me, oh mighty jewish guy."
26. He was a good man who at the end acted wrongly
Ilan ,   Ariel   (03.03.09)
No one really knows what he was going through at the time. He was a good citizen and a good man who one day after seeing his good friend and his son murdered did something crazy and wrong. Aviner is obviously aware of his history. That doesn't make the massacre less evil, but his memory shouldn't be vilified by only selectively remembering the man.
27. "Realistic Religious Zionism movement " - WHAT?
David   (03.03.09)
Can anyone confirm this is a real org?
28. I didn't know that Judaism confered sainthood.
Erastus CoupeDeVille ,   Ong's Hat, NJ   (03.03.09)
What the heck... obviously he didn't deny/question the holocaust.
29. excommuicate Aviner
charicleia ,   USA   (03.03.09)
I said it before regarding his ban on travel to Polish death camps; now, more than ever, the Jewish religious establishment must disavow this dangerous crackpot, who makes a mockery of halacha, embarrasses all Jews everywhere, and clothes himself in the religious mantle. either that, or a BLACKOUT on his so-called pronouncements. heaven help us.
30. Equality
John Williams ,   Ogden USA   (03.03.09)
Was his house blown up afterwards which is what happens to Terrorists?
