The palestinian parts of Jerusalem are the poorest and most underdevelopped. Israelis never set foot in these impovresh areas that in many cases lack basic services. Given these parts back to the palestinians should not be such a big deal... it is the right thing to do and it is well worth is for the sake of peace...

I'd call this bad timing on two levels. First, last month's elections could be seen as a repudiation of the "land for peace" formula that failed so badly. Second, it was just yesterday that Jews in West Jerusalem were attacked yet again by an Arab from East Jerusalem wielding construction equipment. If this is what happens when Israel retains security responsibility over the city, imagine what will happen after turning security over to the PA (soon to be taken over by Hamas). Will foreign visitors and Israelis now have to show "papers" to visit the Old City? Will the Jewish residents and institutions be safe there? Will one need to travel in armored buses to get to Hebrew U's Mount Scopus campus? Get real. If Palestinians gain control over "Arab" parts of Jerusalem, West Jerusalem will soon become unlivable for Jews.
