1. Harder? Hardly
Eskimo ,   Tel Aviv   (03.13.09)
That is not true. It will be the exact situation, only the hamas will feel 100 times sadder when their new fascilities are blown up. They should consider seetling down to build their country instead of eyeing other people's lands greedily.
2. Nuts
Jonathan M. Boyko ,   Ofrah, Israel   (03.13.09)
I think Berlusconi wouldn't mind when he'll see anti-Israel, anti-Semitic, anti-American and anti-Infidels graffiti on the walls of that hospital.
3. Why Not ???
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem -ISRAEL   (03.13.09)
In the 1973 Yom Kipur War the IAF bombed several economically-vital targets in Syria that included the port cities of Banias,Tartus,Latakia, Aleppo's oil refinery, the Radio Damascus station, the Syrian Army Defense Ministry building, and, most surprisingly of all, the Soviet Cultural Center in Damascus which definitely was not a military or strategic target at all. But Israel could not care a bit about Soviet reaction to that bombing since the Soviets had no influence at all over Israel. But when your traditional allies, the European Union and the United States, pump much money into Gaza for reconstruction then the very well-known names of the newly-constructed buldings should suffice to pose as a serious challenge to your IDF... Next time just dare bomb European Union-built and US-erected premises and wait for the reaction of your allies... !!!
4. When We Liberate Gaza, We Will Use Those Roads
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (03.13.09)
And everything else. When we rebuild Gush Katif and the other areas, it will be a big help. We will drive on the rebuilt roads, educate our children in the rebuilt schools, treat the sick and give birth in the hospitals, use the public buildings and residential homes as they should be used. And the jihadi terrorists and their supporters who will precipitate our reconquest of Gaza will be gone from our land forever- back to their own lands far away.
5. Israel should make it clear: Dont bother rebuilding
Scott   (03.13.09)
If there is not a change in circumstances and rockets and other hostile acts prevail. Dont even think about rebuilding a damned thing. TELL THE DONORS. MAKE SURE THEY KNOW THEY'RE WASTING THEIR MONEY.
6. Stop spreading your nonsense....
Trumpeldor ,   eurabia   (03.13.09)
If hamas continue to launch kassams and other grads, you know that our army will recontrol north of gaza strip and philadelphia corridor. You would not write such nonsense if tel aviv was hit by missiles ....
7. If they continue to shoot rockets at us
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (03.13.09)
I don't give a damn who gave the money!!!
8. Not really
Gideon Reader   (03.13.09)
When confronted with retaliation, response or feflexion as a result of hostile activity by Hamas, the investments of donor nations will not serve where "human shields" have not. Money is fungible as is the things that said capital constructs. Should it be needed, I am quite sure that Denmarks sponsored power transmission grid or the USA's water lines, and on, and on, can be destroyed as easily and with good conscience as ever. Not as for those empty buildings,...let fill 'em up with Hamasniks BEFORE the missile strike.
9. #3 Palestine business forever
Raphael ,   Netanya   (03.13.09)
For 62 years, the West has spent billions $ in assistance to "refugees", hoping money would appease arab rage. This self delusion has only fed a permanent financial flow, and a pyramidal corruption system which makes sure this self propelled terrocracy will last forever so long it is funded by Munich style dhimmi powers.
10. The roads & buildings IDF bombed were also "Western money".
robert renders ,   belgium   (03.13.09)
11. What an idiotic article, makes no sense whatsoever
m   (03.13.09)
We should care that the world is paying protection money to Hamas? What is the meaning of this article? That we should accept daily bombings on our cities in fear of the world? How do you suppose you will survive in this new world order that you imagine? I say, don't worry all this money will go to weapons.
12. Exactly!
Eskimo ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (03.13.09)
13. Addendum...2
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem - ISRAEL   (03.13.09)
Israelis, especially the young generation of the post-Soviet era, should learn very well that it was US President Dwight Eisenhower who pressured Britain,France, and Israel to withdraw from Sinai and the Suez Canal zone right after the 1956 war against Egypt... Similarly at the end of the 1973 Yom Kippur War,when the IDF completed the job of totally besieging the Egyptian Third Army east of the Suez Canal the US ,personified by the-then Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, corced Israel to turn the IDF siege into a useless and meaningless military feat by forcing Israel to allow Egypt to send daily convoys of trucks laden with food, clothes.and medicine, especially blood plasma, from the Egyptian mainland to the besieged Egyptian Third Army through IDF lines... To sum up : your Uncle Sam is your ultimate boss ! In 1974 former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin stunned the Israeli public by making the following statement as his first official statement : " ...the State of Israel can not survive without US support ..." !
14. The Money Line
Theo Ghefner ,   Toronto Canada   (03.13.09)
All donors should be clearly informed that if the atacks from Gaza will continue, then all their donations will end up being bombed again, is that simple.
15. its a good point, though
jerusalem   (03.13.09)
i doubt that idf really cares. i mean if they have the nerve to bomb an international organizational school building. ok, we can see that no one cares for the kids.
16. What buildings and roads?
ben Ish   (03.13.09)
As if this money was actually going to used for roads etc. For every dollar spent on construction, 100 dollars will be spent on arms. They will build a school for $40k dollars, and claim it was $4 million spent, and then use $3.9 million for weapons.
17. Use money to help them move BACK to Arabia, Egypt, Jordan,
David ,   Boston, USA   (03.13.09)
etc. Use it to help the people. Stop trying to create something that doesnt belong. Help the people for a change. Help them move back to where they came with jobs, land, hope. STOP keeping the people from Gaza down. Use this money to be constructive. Move them back to where they belong.
18. already done
anne ,   france   (03.13.09)
if you were aware of the way things goes in the Gaza strip even before the war, you would know that every single piece of public building or infrastructure was ALREADY PAID BY WESTERN COUNTRIES. And did that make you think twice before bombing? Hell no. Which means you make no point at all in your "opinion". Get information before you give one.
19. Bombs Away!!
Dan ,   USA   (03.13.09)
Don't hesitate for one second to bomb again! At some point the other side of the coin will come into play, like countries telling Gazans that if they wish to have money to rebuild, then THEY need to make peace, not the other way around.
20. whether they can afford to destroy hospital, or bomb school
observer   (03.13.09)
so there are always ethics to destroy schools, hospital, or culture centers as long as no-one defends those. correct me if I'm wrong
21. cast lead was a gift to hamas because we didnt finish
zionist forever   (03.13.09)
what we started They could have never dreamed of having access to all that before cast lead. Israel drops a few bombs and the result is they are the good guys and vicitms Israel is the one the world hates. Things could have been so much different if Olmert had finished the job which the IDF were telling him to do instead of a unilateral ceasefire. Another couple of weeks of 24 hour bombing the tunnel network could have been destroyed. As a fighting force Hamas would have been finished, we would have regained the deterent that was lost after the Lebanon disaster. We may have even been able to get Gilad `shalit back as a condition of a ceasefire, Instead we rushed out quicker than we went in, without making any prior demands from Hamas we decided we would let Egypt handle all the negotiations and then make a deal that we tell us what we need to do next. Israels enemies know that we don't finish what we start so it doesn't matter how much damage Israel does to them we will win the battle but they will win the war. Hamas were left down but not out. They are still firing rockets daily, the tunnels are still up and running Olmerts about to trade hundreds of killers & Marwan Bagouti for Gilad who is probably dead anyway when if we had taken cast lead to its natual conclusion we may just have got him back without releasing all those terrorists. In the end Israeli soilders were killed & injured for nothing and it cost us over $1 billion on the millitary operation alone, that doesn't include the cost done from all the rocket attacks. Now its to late to finish what web started and get the job done. This has been the most profitable operation Israel has ever launched as far as Hamas are concerend. Now they are getting the money, propoganda and support from the street.
22. uncollected donations
Wade ,   NYC USA   (03.13.09)
As I understand it, the donations are as yet uncollected. The donors had better demand that Gazans cease all provocations as a condition for collection. Israel will surely attack if provoked, and no donor will want to see its "investment" destroyed". I resent the implication that Israel targets hospitals & schools. These get hit when they are used for military ops, which is the usual MO of Hamas.
23. The prise of there silence
Davis   (03.13.09)
Israel destroyed the PA tv it was fuded by french tax payer and mant other institutions .. because it is an anisimite act to critisise Israel all they can do is to help them rebuilding what Israel can redestry at any moment ... rebuilding and creating jobs helps more the stability and peace more than the acts of buldozers and the f 16
24. West: We will give Gaza sums of money
Maria ,   MD   (03.13.09)
if Palestinians promise to recognize Israel, promise not to send rockets to Israel anymore. Then Israel won't bomb Gaza.
25. West...tell Palestinians or Gazans not to bother Israel
Maria ,   MD   (03.13.09)
and Israel won't bother them either. They can used that money for something else.
26. You people here are more intelligent than these
Maria ,   MD   (03.13.09)
government officials who want to give a lot of money to Gaza to keep it safe.Aren't they crazy?
27. Wrong
David ,   Haifa   (03.13.09)
I agree with every word that an Israeli blogger wrote as a comment on this article: http://yonathanbert.blogspot.com/2009/03/missing-point-hitting-target.html
28. Oversight on ALL this money?
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (03.13.09)
Same problems will erupt here as did with Arafat and the UNRWA. There needs to be an extremely public spreadsheet of all these funds.
29. Gaza's new line of defense
Richard Lewis ,   Miami, FL USA   (03.13.09)
Analysis based on a false premise is worthless. The writer states: "A total of $4.4 billion was collected". Nothing was collected, and the history of these events is that many of the pledges will never be fulfilled. According to news reports, the US pledge was conditioned on a joint Fatah-Hamas government which recognizes Israel. Israel should warn the donors that it will be folly to make contributions to rebuild a war zone while the war is ongoing, and it will continue to reply to aggressive acts.
30. Good - it SHOULD be harder for us to bomb Gaza
Bruno ,   Haifa   (03.13.09)
We need to adopt alternative courses of action, and move the dialog to a political level rather than only ever thinking in terms of military responses. The comparison of the sums involved with US aid to Israel are quite unfounded. US aid is IN ADDITION to a thriving and developed economy. The aid to Gaza is to a stifled, suffocated, and closed economy which is withering under Israeli air, sea, and ground constraints.
