1. I'm glad he got injured for....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (03.13.09)
violating a military closed area and throwing stones at our security forces.
2. Call it coincidence or mektub or karma
Jean-Pierre ,   Holon Israel   (03.13.09)
This man came all the way from California, his promised land and found no other place in our promised land to stand than on the way of a projectile. Aren't any other places for him to go? Darfur? Saudi Arabia? Yemen? Tibet? He probably knew that in any other country they would have shot him without 2nd thought. Clever guy but not clever enough. And now are we supposed to care because he is a US national? Why should he receive preferential treatment? Please Ynet, give us real news and not news which belong to lost cats and ran over dogs.
3. Why doesnt this racist protest Hamas?
David ,   Boston, USA   (03.13.09)
While I am sorry he is hurt, he is dilusional in who his protest focuses on. The ISM is a group bent on spreading hate rather than healing and fixing problems. They are part of the problem. They have immoral intentions.
4. ISM Activist Hurt
Frankie Littlehammer ,   New Herstal, TX, US   (03.13.09)
Of course it's horrible when someone gets hurt, but we should keep in mind that the Separation Fence is only there because of terrorism, and that nobody in the IDF or Israeli gvernment is happy about people getting hurt. For the Palestinian handlers, the goal of these demonstrations is to get people hurt, creating bad press for Israel, and they are now rejoycing.
5. No sympathy here..
Malone ,   Hfx   (03.13.09)
...for these idiots that throw rocks and taunt the soldiers to create propaganda for the pals. He got what he deserved.
6. #2 You assume most American activists....
Aaron ,   SF, USA   (03.13.09)
have a global knowledge of the other atrocities committed in the world. add Sri Lanka to your list.
7. ISM member?
Arie ,   BaGolan   (03.13.09)
Let's review the salient facts: 1. ISM is run, financed, operated, and manipulated as a cult by fatah. 2. fatah PURPOSELY places the naive foreigners in harms' way for publicity value 3. The weekly "fence protests" is more like a weekly fatah scheduled violence-fest that is well known to all 4. The American knew, or should have known, that when you instigate violence - as the ISM/fatah doing regularly, there may be painful repercussions. 5. DO NOT waste Israeli manpower by investigating why the Tzahal and Border Police reacted properly to secure the area and defend themselves
8. Interfering meddler --- GOOD!
Sarah ,   New York City, USA   (03.13.09)
Serves him right. How many Israelis do you see protesting against the fence sealing the border between the United States and Mexico? Send this clown home, and ban him from ever entering the State of Israel again.
9. The demonstrators might as well go
USA   (03.13.09)
to the Great Apartheid Wall of China and protest on behalf of the Mongolians (they will probably get the same result for all their efforts.) The IDF are the armed forces, not a bunch of donut-munching, do-nothing cops like they have in Europe and the USA. Leftist cause-seekers should keep in mind that the IDF have a cause worth dying for too and it's called "protecting their homeland," and that they're the ones with the guns and ammunition. I hope Mr. Anderson recovers quickly, but maybe it takes a brain injury to knock some sense into people who need to choose their causes more carefully. Mr. Anderson should stick to San Francisco next time the mood strikes him and he wants to support the "Free Free Palestine" loonies.
10. Sorry
Howard ,   Detroit, USA   (03.13.09)
As an American I am sorry that my fellow countryman came to Israel to cause trouble. He got what he deserved. What an idiot! Ship him to Gaza, and don't let him come back to Israel or America. That seems to be his desire. Grant him his wish.
11. Self-righteous idealism takes a knock!
Cameron ,   USA   (03.13.09)
Sorry the real world reached out and "touched" him like that, but the ME is the wrong environment for posturing, and "making a statement". Even at this moment, more than one activist is packing his/her bags to take fat bottoms back to the comfort & security of the Western World. Helluva reality check for the progressive coffee cafe set, but so goes the deliberate tempting of fate.
12. Message To ISM : We Don't Need You !
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem - ISRAEL   (03.13.09)
Now that's another US citizen that gets hurt while naively trying to support Palestinians by challenging lethal obstacles with his body.In March 2003 American Rachel Corrie was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in Rafah city, the southernmost part of Gaza Strip, while trying to stop that bulldozer with her body... And believe me just a few months ago a young Japanese man (who stayed at " Faisal Youth Hostel " along Haneviim street in Jerusalem) took part in a demonstration to support Palestinians and was shot in his eye.He underwent treatment in Saint John Opthalmic hospital and returned to the hostel with a white patch on one of his eyes.I saw him with my own eyes... ! You might be surprised to know that one of the so-called " founding fathers " of the ISM is Hebronite Arab " Hisham Jamjoum " who became half paralyzed a few years ago ,and who stays at a hostel next to " Faisal " ( after his family became a broken home ). Allegations say that " Hisham Jamjoum " often gets the lion's share of the money donations for ISM movement while the ignorant, young, and naive outsiders travel all the way to this homeland to sacrifice themselves for a cause they hardly know anything about... ! My message is short and simple : Let Palestinians and Israelis solve their problem among themselves by themselves without outsiders' participation !!! We simply do not need ignorant, naive aliens to take part in this conflict simply because we do not want to owe them anything later as much as we do not want them to boast proudly that they stood by Palestinians in this conflict. Let them think deeply of Operation Cast Lead and how it was,and still is, the Palestinians' responsibilty to reach an agreement with Israel.Palestinians know this much better because they have thus far sacrificed tens of thousands of their beloved ones simply because it is their own cause and not somebody else's ! Why let " Hisham Jamjoum " collect the money donations while innocent outsiders sacrifice their lives ? ISM people : we simply do not need you.Thank you. Period.
13. WWRCD: What Would Rachel Corrie Do?
Gideon Reader   (03.13.09)
Leapin' Pancakes!! Those pesky ISM'ers are soooo accident prone. What with setting themselves on fire and blowing themselves up doing such "good works" on behalf of the Wretched of the Earth. Maybe this protesturd was into the "hummus squeezin's"; celebrating "St.Rachel of the Good John Deere" day.
14. He should have stayed in L.A.
leoblue ,   NY   (03.13.09)
He will get along well with Rachel Corie. A match made in heaven.
15. hopefully it knocked some sense into him
truth   (03.13.09)
16. 3-Doctors Without Borders staffers kidnapped in Darfur
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (03.13.09)
and they may not see the light of day ever. Now all Doctors Without Borders members are leaving Darfur and they were truly doing there helpful work. Maybe this is a better a target for ISM protests
17. Ulrika Jenson, Tristan Anderson ppl with names like these
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (03.13.09)
People with Scandinavian sounding names like these are almost always trouble when they are seen in relation to Israel. They come to Israel with the intent to do their part in trying to overthrow Israel to the muslims. They should not be let in the country. People with names like these should be screened extra hard when entering Israel. It shouldn't be to hard to find out if they are subversive elements or not. This Andersson guy has himself to blame for his condition. After all his kind often celebrate when Israelis are killed (not saying he necessarily would though).
18. No sympathy here
David Powell ,   Everett, Wa. DPRSSA   (03.13.09)
I have no sympathy for any person to go to a foreign country to cause trouble. I remember Radhel Corrie who was killed in the Gaza strip by a buldozer. She was from my state and had no sympathy for her either.
19. US national badly hurt in anti-fence protest
A ,   US   (03.13.09)
Anywhere else in the civilized world "protesters" would not even be allowed in a closed military zone. Anybody unauthorized in a closed miltary zone risked their life and should be a subject to strict military laws of the country.
20. To #16, ISM already tried the dangerous stuff
Jake   (03.13.09)
when in 2003 they volunteered to serve as human shields in Iraq during the US invasion. Saddam, who was more than happy to have useful idiots at his disposal, sent the ISM'ers as human shields in Iraqi military sites that would be the first targets during Operation Iraq Freedom. The ISM activists got cold feet, and decided to go for a low risk 'humantiarian mission': harrassing the IDF, where they don't have to worry about bunker busters, or anything more dangerous than the odd tear gas canister, rubber bullet, or slow-moving bulldozer, with plenty of advance warnings, that even the densest airhead can follow to perfection. But please, don't mention Darfur to the ISM'ers, because they might get shil-shul.
21. Wow - people, come on!
John   (03.13.09)
An American man has been shot in the face, is hovering on the brink of death, and you folks are celebrating it? Shame...
22. HEY YNET! Are you part of ARAB propaganda?
GET REAL ,   USA   (03.13.09)
TERM "West Bank" is used by anti Israel propaganda!
23. If You Play With Fire You Get Burned
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (03.13.09)
While I would not wish an injury like this on anyone, the Palestinians at the demonstration were throwing large stones by slingshots. They were trying to do as much damage as possible. If you mix with scumbags, that's unfortunately the price you pay.
24. Now thereĀ“ll be a play about his headache
Barry ,   Tokyo   (03.13.09)
in Londonsitan. What a loser.
25. too bad
(03.13.09)
now he can go back to the US and tell the rest of the Americans how bad we are !!!
26. #21 - The naive underbelly of society has shown its face
William ,   Israel   (03.13.09)
John - you should be shamed, actually. No one here is celebrating this moron's situation but are making a very good point. How much responsibility does the rest of us have to hold if one individual decides to tempt fate? This is the same retarded notion that creates missive laws that overly restrict the public because the weakest of our society is too dumb to take care of themselves. If, at his age of 37, this man can't realize that protesting in a closed military zone might have repercussions than is there really any hope for him? It's like an adult getting hit for playing in the street then demanding millions of dollars in road work and police protection just in case another adult decides to play where he shouldn't. As a member of society I say - GOOD! We should not drug down by the slower members of the group who purposely put themselves at risk then demand everyone suffer as a result.
27. #12 - Tens of Thousands???
William ,   Israel   (03.13.09)
Last count, only about 40,000+ people total have been killed due to the Israel-Arab conflict, counting both sides. This is a shadow of those killed in Darfur in just a few months. Where are these "tens of thousands" you claim? But I do 100% agree with you regarding our situation - ALL outsiders OUT! That means Hamas, Iran, every Arab who wants to stoke the internal flames of hatred, and wide-eyed liberals who think they help by provoking - especially the UN which has done more to perpetuate the situation than help it. When it comes down to the average Yossi and Ahmed, we could get peace rather quickly. Pals have always been the fodder of so many ulterior motives.
28. #5 Macho Malone
Uri ,   Israel   (03.13.09)
" He got what he deserved "????? We dont need idiots like you on a Jewish site. Those people were for peace. Take your macho mentality and get lost Rambo!
29. #26
John   (03.13.09)
"No one here is celebrating this moron's situation but are making a very good point. " Have you read some of these comments? How about #1 and #8? It sounds to me like this man was protesting occupation - whether he threw a stone himself hasn't been anything anyone has asserted. If he doesn't protest, should he simply just lie down and die? What exactly is the end goal of this occupation? I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to live in Israel and to want peace. But in celebrating a protester's being shot in the face and now on the cusp of death, I fear the commentators on here are justifying - I hate to say it - Nazistic thinking.
30. #28...Uri, I think youbetter get back on your meds...
Malone ,   Hfx   (03.13.09)
..you sound a bit unravelled. BTW...www.ynet stands for world wide web,so much for a jewish only site.
