The reason Israel took him is because in Ramallah hospital the Fatah doctors would have shot him and said an Israeli sniper killed him. Even though he is an idiot, he did not deserve to be murdered and Israel certainly did not want another Pallywood production.
62. #29 - Sorry John, he wasn't protesting "occupation"
William ,   Israel   (03.15.09)
He was protesting a fence, and doing so violently I might add. This weekly protest of the fence has become more of a violent tirade than an actual protest, doing little to help the situation. Infact, the very violence portrayed weekly is the REASON for the fence which didn't exist in 2000! What's the end goal of "occupation? Go ask the Arabs who sit on my temple in Jerusalem. But what's the end goal of the fence? To stop Arab terrorists and massive criminal rings, which it has...by 99%! Infact, even the Jenin mayor went on record stating that his city is more peaceful because criminal gangs and Fatah have moved South towards Jerusalem due to the fence. This idiot can protest whatever he wants to. One would think if he chooses to make such decisions and enter a closed military zone, he would understand and accept the consequences. Either Pal supporters are brain-dead already or understand that they won't get hurt by the "big bad" IDF army.
63. #34 - Say what????
William ,   Israel   (03.15.09)
"If you don't want outside intruders then give us back out Millions in military aid and our rockets, guns, tanks and nuclear weapons." So one of the conditions to accepting US military aid is....to allow ourselves to be targets by Arab terrorists? I don't remember reading that in the fine print. I wonder if you hold Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt (who use US weapons to destroy opposition) to the same conditions? Help Palestinians? One could help Pals by opening their eyes to justice and truth, not fall victim to racist rants because they need a cause to follow. Like Rachel Corrie who died protecting a terrorist house with a weapons tunnels (legitimate military target), this guy met his fate. I see NO racist comments here against Pals, unless you consider skepticism in their "peace initiatives" in which they constantly support violence against civilians and talk about destroying Israel and a genocide on its Jewish population (supported by Pal polling).
64. israel as pariah
Karma ,   Netanya, Israel   (03.15.09)
looking at some of the comments here, one can't but notice the absence of any compassion. From the same people probably who think Shalit is a significant casualty. No doubt israel has the weaponry to shoot and kill anyone it wants. But in the larger battles for the hearts and minds of the world, they are losing. Already, in large parts of the world - Europe included, the name "Israel" conjures the same disgust once reserved for South Africa, and now for Zimbabwe. As for the US - every day sees erosion of israel's once positive image. Israel is already conflated with walls, killer bulldozers and dead children by the hundreds. Soon, it'll be that lovely photo of the grimacing Liebrman, the poster boy for thugs everywhere. The heart goes out to Anderson - a brave casualty - if there ever was one. His is the face of outraged humanity. The commenters here, on the other hand, are what demons in hell must look like. keep it up guys...
65. Sorry Karma
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (03.19.09)
It's sad the guy got hurt. But frankly the level of sympathy is right where it should be. The man was in an area closed by the military. If Anderson wanted to come to Israel and protest, he could have done so someplace where it was legal. Jerusalem perhaps? An area of the fence that was NOT closed by the military? From atop a mountain? He got hit by a projectile. Was he a target or just unlucky? Who knows? Who cares? He was in a place where he was told not to be. He's very lucky it was not a bullet as would happen in most other countries..even the USA. When the military says a location is closed to the public they mean it. It is not "oh except you protesters"
66. Prosecute these violators
Daniel ,   Los Angeles, CA   (03.19.09)
Protesters "violating a closed military area order" willingly put themselves in danger, hoping for deaths and injuries that might gain them political and media capital. In so doing, they aid and abet Hamas. All such violators ought to serve mandatory prison sentences for willful endangerment of the public and for providing aid and comfort to the enemy during a time of war. We must put the lives of innocent civilians above the lives of treacherous violators.
67. I'm shocked
Aly ,   USA   (03.20.09)
at the level of callousness and indifference in these posts. Humanity has a long way to go. As a child I lived briefly in a war zone, and I can tell you that this violence will only perpetuate the cycle. I'm not naive and have lost many family members to violence, but Israel's fences and their flattening of Gaza will only result, predictably, in more violence. I wish peace to everyone here: once you start de-humanizing any group of people whether Jewish, Palestinian, Black or White, you lose a piece of yourself.

There is some bizarre logic here. An unarmed man gets shot in the face, but ... it's *his* fault. He made them do it! (He "asked for it". By standing up for what he believes, and trying to protest for peoples' human rights, he was actually asking to be shot in the face.) And the Gazans, they get bombed, but... it's *their* fault. They make Israel do it!
