Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah   (04.03.09)
B"H It's interesting to observe how secular politicians change their head-ware according to the occasion. When Peres visits Rav. Yosef or goes to the Kotel, he sports a black kippah. Hm.
5. 1#,Belgium, learn some history
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (04.03.09)
Before the modern state of Israel was established in 1948 there was a British controlled are called Palestine, not Palistine as you called it. Palestine was not an Arab country. One hundred years ago Tel Aviv was established ny Jews. Before that present day Tel Aviv was just sand dunes with no Arab city standing there.

I was in Israel about 4 months ago and loved my time there. Tel Aviv is a great city and the Israeli people were amazing. So friendly and helpful. I highly recommend seeing TA in all it's beauty. Especially some of the older Bauhaus architecture.
19. #1 sorry dude : Jews before Arabs in this land.
ISRAEL ,   I LOVE T-A   (04.03.09)
You can call it Palestine, Judea, Israel, Canaan or whatever you like. This land belongs to the jews. and Jews are the natives not the arabs. If you look at history: the arab conquerors and mameluks tried to convert jews and christians (both of jewish ethnics groups in their vast majority) to islam during their occupation of this land. That's why if you look at the DNA of some palestinians (mixture of jews and arab invaders) you can have some similiraties with the jews. It proves that jews are the natives and that some palestinians can also be called natives. Let's hope that the so-called "palestnians" (in fact some are of jewish origin) will at the end convert back to Judaism: their true roots, origines and culture! The other arabs (not of jewish origins) were brought here because of the policy of arabization that lasted till that day: they are the occupiers. Those "true" arabs came here because of the attractivity of the region in 1850-1900 (it was developping from scratch= there was only 250,000 inhabitants in Palestine/Judea/Israel/Canaan/Zion/Cisjordania at this time!!).
20. I love T-A - some plans for the future
(04.03.09)
I think to develop T-A faster, it should incorporate Ramat Gan and Givatayim: This would enable the city to reach some 600,000 inhabitants and increase revenues to develop infrastructures quicker (especially light train and new highways, a new big stadium). The entire region of T-A could reach 1.250 million of inhabitants and a city of this kind would be able to compete much better that now on the global scene with J'LM! TA rulez.. :))
21. #1. 100 years ago there was a Tel Aviv. But no 'Palestine'

22. A Vibrant City....

which needs a much more vigorous publicity campaign---On this centennial birthday, mazel tov to all of Tel Aviv!
23. #1 There was
Maria ,   MD   (04.04.09)
It was called the "Promised Land". Just look at the ancient map of the Promised Land, most of their lands were stolen from them by the Arabs with the help of Great Britain and France. The original lands of the Twelve Tribes of Israel will come back to their descendants in end times.
24. IF
Maria ,   MD   (04.04.09)
in my own opinion only, the Hebrews/Jews didn' t rebel against Rome or were not mistreated by the Romans, probably they wouldn't be exiled to another continent. If the Jews came back to Israel before the pogroms and Holocaust occured, probably, they would be the majority in the ME.It seems to me that the pogroms and Holocaust drove them back to their "Promised Land".Though Europe was a comfort zone to them, they 've learned a lot while there.I'm sure, they would learned a lot from Romans also while in Palestine[Judea], because Romans are well noted for being organized. The Jews should have left their comfort zone "Europe" before that terrible tragedy had happened to them". Resistance and Rebellion won't get anybody anywhere! My advice to the Palestinian people.Submit and don't resist!
25. # 1 And America was 'the new world'
petra ,   uSA   (04.04.09)
there never was or will be a palestine. Just as the romans named Ireland Hibernia, it's still Ireland. America is not the " new world' live w/ it. palestine is a name invented by rome who fell shortly thereafter.
26. ..
Anna ,   Germany   (04.04.09)
there was no palestine either
27. 1 - it was palestine but palestinians were jewish
zionist forever   (04.04.09)
Your right it was called Palestine but not after a bunch of arabs who today call themselves Palestinians. The Romans renamed the Kingdom of Judea Palestine after the jewish revolts against them. The country was named after the infamous Medeterain pirates the Philistines as an insult to the jews. After the country was controled by various empires such as the Romans, Turks, British it was never an arab state and most the arabs who today call themselves palestinians followed the first zionists from as far away as Iraq. The zionists needed labourers, the zionist had started health care for themselves and their labourers, they were developing what was previously seen as worthless so the arabs who at that time were either tribal or roamers like the bedouin came to work for the zionists and just like the zionists these arabs created villiages and settlements of their own and had children. After WW1 France & England divided the Middle East between them and the British got Palestine. They traded the Golan with France in exchange for Mousal. Then in 1921 they brought a Heshimite prince from Arabia and divided Palestine giving 80% of it to the Heshimites to create the kingdom of Transjordan. In 1948 the remaining 20% of Palestine became the State of Israel. In 1964 Arafat founded the PLO and the decendents of the refugees from Israels war of independence he called Palestinians. From then on the legend of arab Palestine was created. In reality the jews were in this land continuously for 2000 years and then100 years ago arabs followed the zionists looking for work and the native palestinians were the jews.
28. CENTENARY CELEBRATION
Reuven ,   Petach Tikvah. IL   (04.04.09)
The money being lavished by the Tel Aviv municipality to celebrate one hundred years after the foundation of the city is nothing less than a disgrace. It would be quite proper to spend a modest amount of public rate payers' money to celebrate the centenary, but particularly in view of the terrible financial situation in Israel the money could be well spent, in Tel Aviv alone, on more worthy projects. After the Pesach holiday countless numbers of people are going to lose their jobs and this demonstration of wasting public money is spitting in the face of so many people who have difficulty is finding enough money to finish the month. Many of thiose people will be Tel Aviv rate payers. How the municipality justifies the cost of hiring the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, together with Zubin Mehta, for a shot concert is beyond understanding. No doubt all this expenditure will be reflected next year in higher municipal taxes from already overtaxed citizens.
